The village

St Sorlin is part or the Les Sybelles ski domain encompassing six resorts - ski 310km of pistes! Opened in December 2003, this development has propelled the region from unknown status into one of Frances five largest areas for skiing. St Sorlin shares the LArvan valley with its smaller sister village St Jean dArves and a 5-minute ski bus journey links up the 2. St Sorlin is a small village with all the facilities of a larger ski resort. We chose to buy an apartment here because everything, including the ski slopes are within walking distance. It is ideal for families with the ski school taking children from as young as 3 and a half. We have had two weeks there this year with our 6 and 3 year old and our 6 year old was coming down blue runs by the end of the week.
The village has a variety of restaurants, all family friendly serving the traditional fare of the area as well as steaks, pizzas and pastas. All restaurants in the village are within walking distance and one, La Table de Marie is virtually next door to our apartment block. The bars are plentiful for apres ski and there is a night club at the bottom of the village for anyone wanting to dance the night away. For the adventurous there is paragliding, snow shoe walks, dog-sledding and cross country skiing. For those that want a break from all the activity there is a Fromagerie open for visits.
A free bus service runs up and down the village all day till about 7 at night so if you are too tired to walk with all your ski equipment you can take the bus and it will dro p you off right outside our apartment.
From our apartment it is however only a short walk to the beginning of a green run which will take you down to the ski lifts.

Travelling there

You can get there by driving or flying

If you drive, as a guide it takes 10 hours to drive from Zeebrugge to St Sorlin and about the same from the Channel Tunnel. The roads in France are fantastic and when we drove it didnt feel like wed driven for 10 hours, not like in Britain!

If you choose to fly then many cheap fare airlines such as Easy Jet, Jet2 and Ryanair fly to Grenoble, Chambery, Lyon and Geneva. All these airports are within a 2 hour journey of the village.

You can then either hire a car and get there under your own steam, good if you want to stock up at the supermarket before getting up the mountain. Car hire can be expensive in France but we have found that if you shop around you can get some good deals. Or you can get the shuttle bus service which is run by the local tourist information. It runs on a Saturday only at various times throughout the day and will pick you up from the aiport and take you to the village. It costs around 75 euros per person return, under 4s travel free and when we used it it was an excellent stress free way of getting there. A link can be found on our website

The apartment is in a very quiet area. It has a south facing balcony, panoramic views. If you are driving there is private parking and a garage with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.
