Property and local area description
Why Sparrow Lake!
We have been visiting Sparrow Lake for the last 30 years. We fell in love with this calm, but fun filled lake from the first time we got there. For the first 13 years we used to rent a near by cottage, but as our family grew, we needed more space and bought the one we have now. My kids love fishing and water sports (skiing, wakeboarding). Sparrow Lake has it all.
It is on Trent Severn Waterway system, which means, you can travel to other lakes by motorboat. We are located 3 locks away from Georgian Bay and 2 locks away from Lake Simcoe. My kids love the boat trip days. You can visit an exotic restaurant on the docks by going through the North lock, or you can spend hours swimming at the sand banks right beside your boat, docked on the sand, if you travel through the South Lock.
Environmentally, Sparrow Lake is a very clean lake. The abundance of fish and wild life serves as solid proof. The wild rice, that grows in the lake is natural to it and serves as a natural filtration system. The lake has many minerals and its waters are good for your skin and hair (leave the hair conditioner at home when staying at our cottage)
The short drive (only 1 1/2hrs) from Toronto makes Sparrow Lake very popular. There are no other lakes of the same quality located so close to Toronto.
Sparrow Lake is located in the middle of several towns with hospitals, shopping and entertainment. There is a wildlife centre 15 min. away from the cottage a very trendy, must to see, Muskoka store.
It is only 15 min. drive to Town of Gravenhurst, where you can go on a cruise around 3 lakes, shop, visit craft shows, antique boat or car shows, farmers market on Wednesday, museums and even Old Opera house concerts.
In 20-25 min. you can go golfing at one of the best Golf Courses in Muskoka, Taboo visit Casino, or Town of Bracebridge, with more shopping, best mini Golf we have been to, amusement/theme Park, movie theatre and restaurants.
30 minutes drive south of our cottage will take you to Town of Orillia, on Lake Simcoe, where more shopping and entertainment is waiting you. There is plenty to do even on a rainy day.
