We have recently returned from staying at Casa Buglione and enjoyed our week there. We had arranged a family reunio n with Aussie brother & sister in law + other siblings. The villa was chosen to cater for everyone and was ideal in that respect. There are some excellent restaurants nearby(within walking distance) although only some are listed on sites such as Tripadvisor. The only other comments I would make is transport is strongly advisable although there are frequent local buses into Sintra and if there are sunworshippers then be aware of a strong breeze blowing seemingly constant. The villa is excellent , tastefully decorated and with every possible kitchen aide available. The owner, Gianpiero cannot be more friendly and helpful. If you requirer a large villa with all the facilities expected the Casa Buglione is ideal.

An excellent villa with great accommodation and excellent hosts who could not have been more helpful. The location was excellent with easy access to Sintra and the surrounding sites. There were a number of good retaurants either in walking distance or within a few minutes drive. We have stayed in a considerable number of villas in Europe and this was one of the best appointed. We would certainly recommend it to others.

The Villa was very well appointed and provided us with a wonderful home away from home. The beds were comfortable and the rooms spacious. The ensuites were large and exceeded our expectations. The full working kitchen allowed us to apply our cooking skills to their utmost. The dining room set a perfect tone for our meals, with great atmosphere. The solarium provided a perfect setting for our end of the day recaps. The pool and outdoor areas were exceptional. Secured parking was another great feature. The town of Azoia was charming and the number of top notch restaurants was an added bonus indeed. Gianpiero and Paul were amazing hosts and attended to every detail without hesitation. The location of the Villa is ideal for travelling to local areas , as well as any points North or South. Should we return to this area of Portugal, we would not hesitate in rebooking this wonderful property.

We had a lovely, relaxing time at Casa Buglione. There were just the two of us, but we had spent the previous week in Lisbon so were in need of some quiet time. The villa is rather large for two people but we really enjoyed having the space. The bathroom we used was huge, and it was a nice touch to have shower gel and soap on hand. The kitchen had everything you needed, although we tended to eat out. We did use the barbecue one night, which was great. Our favourite room by far was the conservatory and we spent a lot of time in there just reading. Gianpierro the owner was extremely accommodating and even arranged for a taxi to take us to a supermarket to stock up as we did not have a car. We would recomend the villa to anyone and also recommend the Windmill Bar (Don Qixote) in the village.

Casa Buglione is a wonderful villa. The house is very well appointed and met all of our needs adequately. There were six people in our party and we all agreed that the house was perfect. The full working kitchen was a treat for all of us. The sun room provided a lovely setting for discussing our daily adventures. The pool was cool respite for the sun. The location of the house allows for easy access to major roads for travelling either north to Porto or south to the Algarve, not to mention all of the beautiful beaches and towns located in close proximity. The town of Azoia is lovely and we enjoyed walking in the surrounding area. The restaurants were all great value for the money and served authentic Portugese food, not to mention awesome wines. Casa Buglione proved to be a perfect home away from home.

Lovely house and gardens and very warm welcome from owners.Great village and area.Plenty of restaurants in village but we wished we had found the windmill bar with its bright decor fantastic views a little earlier in our holiday.Lots of places to visit(sintra is fantastic) and very friendly people.Would definately like to go back and this house felt so homely and comfortable that we would definately book again.Maid service was great to.Ironing was even done for us one day!Felt very spoilt!I think the house would not be entirely suitable for small children as lots of low down glassware or for elderly people as lots of small steps to trip up.Hope to return before too long.

Owner reply:
Dear Sally and dear Rob, it was a pleasure having you as guests in our villa as you booked the entire property just for the two of you, it has been more than normal that the two maids Rosaria and Gracinda wanted to "spoil" and serve you to their best possible way. Again, we are looking forward to hosting you again in a very near future. Yours Gianpiero and Paulo.
P.S.: a little bitter note: it is a shame that the fully computerised RentalSystems did NOT give to your review our accustimed and...deserved 5 stars, just because answering to the question "would you recommend to family and friends" you put a mark on "yes" instead of having put it on "definitely"..................

The villa is fantastic, all eight of us had a great time there, and everyone is extremely helpful. All of the rooms are ideal with a well equipped kitchen and a great BBQ area. The sun lounge is just right to sit down and enjoy the views with a good book or to talk about the day’s activities. I can recommend this villa and location and would look to go back. The location is ideal with 3 great restaurants within 5 mins walk. In addition there is the Windmill bar just 15 mins walk which has great views and good bar meals- the ice-cream is to die for. Visit the lighthouse on the coast for great vies and Sintra is a nice place to spend the day. The beaches close by are ideal for the views and anyone who likes surf, and for the family the beaches in Cascais and Estorill are perfect with good sands, calm water and plenty of amenities. As we came for the golf, I can recommend Praia del Ray even with the 90 min drive. Closer to the villa all 30 mins or less is Quinta Da Marinha good course and the best – Oitavos- well worth the money and fantastic fairways and greens. Penha Longa Atlantic has the best setting, but personally i found that it is not in a good condition as the rest on the day we visited, with some poor greens and overwatering on the fairways making them boggy in parts with lots of weeds in the grass.

We had a wonderful 2-week holiday at Casa Buglione. The house was very spacious and well appointed with everything we needed. It was more like living in a real home than a holiday home as there were a lot of paintings and ornaments around the house, which gave it a homely feel. We were also very well looked after by the maids, who came 6 days a week and even sorted out our washing! The house was also in a quite location, but close to several cafes and restaurants. Our only negative comment would be that the noise of local dogs barking at night was sometimes disturbing, but we did get used to it! There was a lot to do and see in the vicinity, including the palaces of Sintra and the nearby Cabo da Roca. We took advantage of the train running from Cascais (there is a car park at the station) to Lisbon to visit Lisbon itself, and also several places along the way. There are also many beaches to choose from, some calm and safe for small children and others with big waves, that would be fun for older children and adults alike. I would highly recommend this property, whether you are a family with children, or adults interested in more cultural pursuits.

There is only one word for this villa "fabulous". We were more than delighted with every aspect of our stay and were very well looked after by the owners, for whom nothing was too much trouble, and they even loaned my elderly father a walking stick! I would definitely recommend the villa to everyone. It is comfortable, well equipped and located in a very pretty village. If you want to experience a bit of luxury in real Portugal, visit Sea View Villa.

"This villa is everything we hoped for. The pictures accurately represent the property. 4 beautiful BRs, large kitchen, lots of elegant gathering spaces. It was very clean and well accessoried. Daily maid service was inconspicuous (We never saw them.) Beautiful grounds. The location is ideal for day trips to Lisbon, Sintra, Obidos and beyond. Gianpiero and Paul are attentive and knowledgeable whenever we asked for help. Well worth the cost. I wouldhighly recommend it to friends and already have. Go there!"

The design of this extremely well-equipped and maintained property was ideal for our family group of six adults and two children. The daily maid service was very thorough and help from the owner was available if required. We particularly enjoyed relaxing in the excellent pool area and watching the sunsets from the spacious conservatory. We appreciated the quiet location of the villa and the ease with which we could travel to beaches and places of interest. All of these factors contributed to a very memorable holiday.

We really enjoyed our holiday in the villa. We had really everything we dreamed about. A nice place to come back after visiting the surrounding. It is very well located near the most important things to see. Sintra, Lisbon, Cascais, Estoril. We didnt know what to expect from the maid service but this is really holiday. She came everytime we went on an excursion so privacy is really important for them even though we saw her the last day and she is so nice. The owners of the house are very friendly, if you need them they are there but otherwise they give you also all the privacy you can imagine. The only thing I could give as a remark is the fact that there is no television in the house itself. With children it would be nice to see a film all together in the evenings. There are small televisions in each room but then you are not together. I must admitt that the first day we thought that the children would miss that but we played some games and so we had very nice evenings. We will recommend it to everybody.

We have just returned from a wonderful trip to Portugal. It was our fifth trip to this wonderful country and we picked the Casa Buglione as a great place to celebrate our 25th anniversary with family and friends. The villa was fantastic, far exceeding all expectations. The beautiful pictures on the website do not do justice to this marvelous home. It was very comfortable , with plenty of space for everyone to relax in, although we always seemed to congregate by the pool in the evening , or the sunroom in the morning. Gianpiero was great, arranging a wonderful lunch in the village , for us to "shake off the cobwebs"after a long transatlantic flight. He was constantly vigilant about any anticipated need, but we also appreciated his non-obtrusive style.Maria, the maid was great. I believe that she came in on her day off to make some special arrangements for my oldest son.Thank you The area is magical. The village seems to be one of the last remaining "true " portuguese villages in the area. The beaches of Guincho and the village of Cascais are very close. Sintra remains one of my favourite places on the planet, and it is a short drive away Our only regret is that we were only able to book the Casa for one week (others had beat me to the reservations!!).We had to "settle" for 2 weeks of Pousadas in the Alentejo after our wonderful stay at Casa Buglione I will definitely stay at the casa on our next trip to Portugual

When we first arrived by road to Casa Buglione we noticed a prominent villa overlooking the road surrounded by a large fence. We wondered where our villa would be in relation to this landmark, little did we know that this was to be the villa for our brief stay. It was grandeoise, clean, decorated in Italian style and rather like a country house hotel. The maid came every day to clean and the garden, pool and security was excellent. Casa Buglione is wonderful, secure, good for children, with a large covered private pool, feature fountain and has everything you need for a stay. A car is recommended, as it is quite a way from a supermarket (7kms) although the bus runs from Sintra to Caiscais right outside the door. Recommnded trips to Sintra (palaces, everything wonnderful) Caiscais and Estoril (beaches), Lisbon (found the centre not so good but recommend Oceanarium area next to V da Gama Bridge). Finally, a word about Giampiero and Paul, the hosts. They are absolutely wonderful and always ready to help you. They recommended trips, shopping and the local restaurant in the village, which was fabulous. Thank you for a wonderful stay and we will certainly return!

Owner reply:
We wish to say thank you so much to James and his lovely wife and family for the wonderful words about Casa Buglione and their services we are sure that in the stars evaluation happened a tiping mistake, for having given only a "good" mark instead of an "excellent" one by the "value" of the house (the result are 4 and a half stars, instead of the 5 we are already accustomed - and deserve - to)

The entire process from booking, to travel directions, to assistance from the Owner at arrival and to the general occupancy, was much smoother than past experience with other villa rentals. The house is excellent and everything that was required was there in abundance. The owner is particularly friendly and helpful. The location and the house itself are idyllic. Although being well situated from the perspective of a number of types of holiday, we were actually on a golfing holiday and had no problem using it as a base for the 6 different courses we played on during the week.

We stayed at the villa in from April 4th until April 11th 2009. The weather was lovely and warm. It is a bit windy in Azoia as it is half way up a mountain but it didnt detract from the holiday at all. The villa is beautiful and very well presented. We were a party of 8, my husband and I and our 5 children (ages between 21 and 8) and my sons girlfriend. There is enough room in the villa that you are never on top of each other. The conservatory was a big hit, so peaceful and warm with a lovely view. The kitchen is very well equipped and we cooked evening meals with ease. We even had a barbeque one evening. The sun terrace from the double room and the barbeque area are well protected from the wind and are wonderful sun-traps. Although the TV has satellite there is really only news programmes in English which I thought would be a problem for the kids of an evening but no we had great evenings in front of a log fire with wine and cards. The pool isnt heated and was a bit chilly at times but the kids still had a great time in it. We ate out about 3 times in the town and the food was lovely, our favourite restaurant was Pao de Trigo which is run by Mr Vitor who speaks perfect English and was able to explain what camel dribble and flucting island was. The food was fantasic quality and reasonably priced. We also had an evening at the bar Moinho Dom Quixote which was a big hit with the older kids and their cocktails were a knock-out in every sense of the word. We went out for days, the best beach we found to spend the day on was Praia das Macas. It has lovely crashing waves, shelter from the sun if wanted, nice sand and a bar/restaurant over-looking the beach for drinks and a near-by loo and is only about a 15 min drive from the villa. The other beaches nearby are also lovely but this one suited us the best. The sea was great and my kids being made of stern English stuff were wave jumping and swimming until they were blue. If you want to have a day in Lisbon my advice is drive to Sintra there is parking at the station for up to 7 hours for 4 Euros and then take the train which was about 3 Euros return each, apparently parking in Lisbon is a nightmare. We had a day in Lisbon but it was spoilt when we were targeted by pickpockets getting on to a tram. BEWARE!!! They work in teams and managed to segregate me from my very large party and I caught one of them with his hand in my very small bag which went across the body. Luckily I had a bulky purse that he couldnt get out of my bag and when startled I am quiet loud and surprizingly violent so he got a bit of a pounding and a real telling off from me and fled empty handed, but it did spoil the day. We also visited Palacio da Pena in Sintra which has fabulous views and great gardens but beware its a very steep walk if you dont take the bus. We had two days at Cascais, one sight-seeing and another shopping in the big mall. We stopped for a few hours at Estoril, and had a trip out to Cabo da Roca (about 5 mins drive from the villa) which is worth a look. All in all we had a great time. Mr Paul and Mr Giampiero are a superb help if needed and there is detailed information provided about the locality and where to shop. Maria the maid is a super-star, I really could have taken her home. The younger kids loved her as she didnt speak English but had a translating dictionary and they followed her around holding up items which she would tell them the Portugese for. I am still not sure why they need to know what blanket means in Portugese. She has cleaning skills to die for and is well worth a tip at the end of your holiday. The only down-side for me is that I am a nervous passenger and we had a 9 seater van on very narrow roads with spectacular views and sheer dro ps. My nerves were in tatters the first few days but we soon worked out how to stay on the bigger roads. A word of warning if like me you have a fear of dro pping off of the side of mountains, dont follow your sat nav as its takes you the shortest route which normally means on tiny roads without barriers and far further up the mountain than you needed to go. Without a shadow of a doubt this was a wonderful holiday in a beautiful setting with great hosts...what more could you ask for?

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Buglione. it occupies a lovely situation in the hills of Azoia overlooking the ocean. The villa was outstanding in its decor, furnishings and space. There was lots of room to relax and spread out. The bedrooms were luxurious and very comfortable. We liked the sunken lounge area and the central courtyard. The conservatory was a very light and airy room with a relaxed ambience and good selec tion of books and magazines. The covered indoor swimming pool was a hit with everyone. Giampiero was always available to help with any queries and to give advice about the area, making us feel very much at home.

We had a wonderful stay in Casa Buglione, located in a most beautiful area on Portugal coast, close to the ocean. The house has beautifully decorated rooms and living room, an amazing terrace with ocean view - we witnessed some splendid sunsets, a gorgeous garden and a huge swimming pool. Our hosts were very friendly and considerate and made all the necessary arrangements for us to have the most agreeable stay in their house (thank you very much, Mr. Giampiero and Mr. Paul for a lovely holiday!). The food in the restaurants in the village was a delight. Without any doubt, I recommend anyone to spend their holydays in Casa Buglione, for us it was a great pleasure!!

A lovely and very well equiped villa in a small village which is genuinely a home from home. Very spacious for a family of 5 with everything you could wish for. Lovely part of Portugal with Sintra, Lisbon and Cascais all within easy reach - there is plenty to do if you want to get out, but equally easy to relax by the covered pool or in the wonderful conservatory, watching the sun sink with a refreshing drink and a good book (also supplied in the villa!) Worthy of special note is the English speaking owner, Gianpiero, who is always on hand to deal with problems (we had none!) or just to help out booking restaurants etc. He even texted us when the morning mist lingered and suggested alternative locations if we wanted to find the sun again. A truely memorable and relaxing break. Thank you!

We had three families sharing, so the cost was divided between each of three. There was plenty of room and space so that each group could share spaces and just as easily find a quiet corner for yourself. Even after half way through the stay we were finding new items of interest on the walls or shelves - no need to take books, music or DVD as there is plenty to choose from. The evenings were very pleasant with the varied lighting - we used a full set of candlesticks. Besides seven adults we also had a two year old and she was prfectly safe from harm with the locked security gate. No air conditioning was necessary because of the unique central ventilation system - very attractive. One negative: there was a strong smell of napthalein wich did get into our clothes. Open windows/doors preventing this as an issue.

Owner reply:

Casa Bugliones description doesnt do justice to the beautiful exterior and interior which is very stylishly furnished with many beautful objects on display. All the bedrooms are spacious and allow for privacy if you want to escape from the group. We have stayed in numerous villas in Southern Europe but have never found such a well equipped kitchen - it was a pleasure to cook in. All of this combined with great pool and conservatory areas made our holiday very enjoyable. If you are looking for a peaceful location then Azoia is the place for you. It really is a village unlike some so-called villages which turn out to be mini towns. We used 2 of the 4 restaurants and had excellent meals in both. There are weekly fish/fruit and veg markets with bread/cakes/milk available in the (very) mini market. We used public transport and after some initial difficulties sorting out timetables this worked well. There are buses going to Sintra and Cascais every hour and from both these towns you have access to trains/buses that will take you to Lisbon and many other destinations. Although we were happy with our arrangements a car for part of the holiday would be useful for the larger supermarket shopping trips and ad hoc sightseeing. We were very well looked after by the owners who presence is there if you want it but generally unobstrusive. We were also very well looked after by the delightful Maria whose capacity to clean to a very high standard without disturbing us was remarkable!

We found this property to be of an exceptionally high standard and were very impressed with sheer scale of all rooms and also the excellent facilities together with comprehensive maid service. The property benefits from a quiet location in the national park but is easily accessible to the nearby beaches, towns and Lisbon as well. The village has many good quality restaurants all within easy walking distance. We really enjoyed our stay and wish it could have been for longer.

Four senior, male, golfers going off on their annual trip requiring great lodgings in an excellent location. We found just this with Giampiero and his lovely villa. Nothing was too much trouble for him, even though the failure of the heating and hot water came at a 'difficult time'. His answer, book us all in to a local hotel, at his expense! Golf courses are as good as anything on the Costas or Algarve, but cheaper and quieter. The people are great. Go and enjoy.

Especially the help from the owner, Mr Giampiero, was extraordinary. Prior to arrival he mailed us addresses/websites of specific places of interest. He helped us to find the address of some very good local restaurants. During our stay he helped us in arranging for (last minute) transport. The owners' service was unique and made our stay even more relaxing.

Review from Fiona and Alan, from Karori, Wellington / New Zealand

..... We have just been looking through our photos of the holiday, and remembered again what a great time we had and what a lovely place Casa Buglione is.
...... we just wanted to say thank you so much – it’s a beautiful house and we all had a fantastic time there. We’re back in New Zealand now, where it is very cold and wet. We’ll be relying on our lovely memories of Portugal to see us through the winter here!!

We had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay at Casa Buglione. It was a perfect location, with picturesque views. The house was immaculate and spacious with all the modern amenities. It was aestheticly decorated. The daily maid service was excellent and the owner was always available for any assistance. It was certainly a home away from home, would love to go back there again!

It was easy to find the property with a rented car and the instruction that had been given. The owners are very nice and helpful people. Maid service was excellent. The casa is lovely. Bed rooms are big and nicely furnished. The kitchen is very well equipped, and we enjoyed making meals there. The living rooms are very comfortable and beautifully furnished. The winter garden is a place to really relax, enjoying a view of the Atlantic ocean and the nice garden. The swimming pool is very nice, and the wind shields made it easy to use in all kinds of weather. We would like to come back

Owner reply:
We are so happy that Per and his family have chosen to revisit our property and have already booked it for 1 week in next August 2009. Thank you Per!

The villa has a very good layout with 4 large bedrooms and bathrooms so it worked well for 2 families. The bathrooms are a good size and there is plenty of cupboard space. It is a short walk to a number of restaurants including 2 very good Portuguese restaurants. There are views of the Atlantic and the sea breeze means it isn't too hot in the evening. this part of Portugal has its own micro climate which means that they get the odd misty morning. The plus points are beautiful green countryside and lovely fruit and veg at the market. This villa has a covered pool which means it is still usuable even on a breezy morning! Praia Adraga is only 15 minutes away and this is a beautiful beach with a bar and small restaurant. The villa is extremely well equipped and we found the washing machine and tumble dryer very useful. There id also a microwave and coffee maker which was useful. The main living area is large and spacious with lots of candles and antique ornaments. The setting was very tasteful (although parents of smaller children might well find too much within grasp of small hands!) The owner was very helpful and attentive. He lives in an next to the villa but is very unobtrusive One massive plus is the daily maid service . Towels are rplenished and beds made so it is a bit like a hotel! In short, a really lovely villa in a village with bars and restaurants in walking distance and a beach a short drive away.

My husband and I, our two grown-up daughters, my sister & husband (who lives in Florida) and her son booked this holiday. What we wanted was a place to relax in, chill out and enjoy time together and this villa certainly provided that. The minute you walk through the door, you feel as if you holiday has begun. Eccentric, quirky, eclectic, filled with personal knick knacks and every amenity one could wish for... In the evening we would light the candles and sit by the sumptuous fireplace. This was a fantastic place to relax and enjoy each other's company, listening to favourite cd's (they had an extensive cd collection, but we brought our own 60's classics!) -- And although we enjoyed being together, there were also so many places to sit on your own and read. This house appealed to both young and older generations; my daughter particularly enjoyed the internet access for keeping in touch and ebay bids; I enjoyed sitting in the conservatory and looking at the stunning views. There was so many extras, such as the endless supply of candles, firewood, fresh flowers, cloth napkins firelighters, and a well-stocked kitchen.. The list goes on and on. In fact it was such a pleasant 'home' we cooked dinner on the three of the nights of our stay. Even the outside areas affored privacy for catching the sun and the covered aspect to the pool meant that we could enjoy it even when the weather wasn't so sharp. The owners occasionally visited to ensure that everything was in order and the maid service ensured that we had clean towels and sheets daily. As for location, there were several friendly, cozy restaurants within walking distance. We had a wonderful walk to the coast one day, enjoying the spectacular scenery. I would not hesitate to recommend this villa to anyone who wants to have a comfortable and unique stay in Portugal.

My family and I have just returned from our two-week holiday in Portugal and it has been our best holiday in many years. Our group consisted of me, my husband, our two grown-up daughters and their boyfriends, and my sister who travelled over from Canada. The villa is absolutely spectacular. It has been designed beautifully, with its interior arboretum and water feature, and inviting communal areas. The large rounded conservatory area overlooking the ocean is a wonderful room. Throughout the villa, portraits, pictures, and personal objet d’art adorn the place. This gives the impression that you are staying in a home, rather than in a rental property. The kitchen was large enough to comfortably sit all of us around the table and contained everything you might look for in a kitchen. Again, the indoor garden, dining room and living room provided a lovely living area. Three of the bedrooms have their own patios with table and chairs, so when any of us wanted a bit of solitude or privacy, we had no problem finding a place to be alone. The pool is enclosed by glass and a Perspex roof. Initially we thought that might detract from the use of the pool, but in fact, it was the opposite because when we were there, (the last two weeks in August) there were many windy days and having the enclosed pool allows you to really enjoy it far more than if it was open. The owners of the property, Jean Pierre and Paul were particularly welcoming and although they live nearby and were there if they were needed, they made a conscious effort to not intrude on our privacy. Also, the daily maid service was very nice indeed, and as Maria and Rosario came at 3 pm daily, it meant that we could all sleep in as long as we wanted without being disturbed. The villa was situated just a few minutes walk from the village centre where we found four restaurants that were really good. We enjoyed the food very much and dinner for seven people with two courses plus wine was usually around €140 which we felt was very reasonable. The surrounding area was exactly what we look for in a holiday. We do not like to be in places surrounded by other tourists and this small village was perfect. Within ten minutes drive there is a supermarket and the much larger tourist town of Cascais is half an hour away. Lisbon was also about a half hour drive away. We golfed at Oitavos, Penha Longa – Atlantic course, and Belas. All courses were lovely, but Belas was excellent and well worth the 45 minute drive. We would most certainly hope to return to Casa Buglione and highly recommend the villa.
