This is a really lovely property and is plenty big enough for a couple of a small family. Set amongst a small vineyard you have 360 degree unspoilt views of the mountains, surrounding countryside and ocean. The rooms are clean and modern and very homely. As another reviewer pointed out the pool / bbq area is shared by the other villa, but we were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves.
Highly recommend if you want to get away from it all.

We had a brilliant 10 days at this property. We stayed in the big house and it was well equipped, very clean and just fantastic.
The pool was very clean and cleaned regularly. The location was lovely and had fantastic views over the coast and towards the village. We arrived at festival time and enjoyed the local events in the village.
Gregorio and his brother Alexandro were very welcoming and were always there to help if you had a question. We ate locally and can recommend the restaurant in the village - Casa do Palha. The weather was a little interchangable with rain and mist but soon cheered up. We will definitely be back soon.

We had thge smaller of the two villas for a week. It is very spacious (3 bathrooms, 2 beds, large sitting area). To be clear, you share the complex area - and therefore the pool/barbecue area -which the larger villa, but we didnt find that a problem. There is also a small laundry room attached to the bigger house, where there is a washing machine.
The area itself is very remote as its on the outrskirts of the Sao Jorge village, but we found that very relaxing. The owners - 2 brothers - were both lovely, and helpful. There was a minor issue with the pool one day, but it got sorted out as soon as the issue was raised.
We found that the local area was nice for walking in, there is a 10k walk nearby which was not too challenging, and really pretty, especially the watefall.
There are local shops in the village, plus a big supermarket on the way to Santana, which is where we did all our foodshopping. we didnt find that it was very expensive, which is a relief, as eating out in Funchal would have been very expensive indeed.
We arrived straight from the Easyjet flight which landed midmorning, and the place wasnt actually ready, the maid was still cleaning and said that it would be ready at about 3pm - you should bear that in mind (although it was fine to leave stuff there, its not quite the same as being able to jump in the shower straight away!).
Another thing is that there isnt actually internet in the house. The owner who lives locally offered to lend us his dongle/usb stick to receive it. If you need to be plugged into the web, you might want to look at bringing your own computer/dongle, as the only internet cafe we saw was in funchal, and that only opens at midday daily.

A beautiful area, quiet and with spectacular views. Great to have the barbecue and pool at the villa also.

We had a fantastic stay. We found it an idea base away from it all to explore the island. The small house is quite spacious and the use of the pool is great. We found the owner very hospitable. I would highly recommend having a meal out at the small restaurant behind the church in sao jorge too.

We stayed in the smaller of the two houses at Casa do Lagar and were very happy with it. It is very well equipped - we didnt want for a thing and the owners are attentive and kind without being intrusive. I especially appreciated having internet access.
Minor issues? The area is a hikers paradise but not easy to stroll around if you have very young children. Tough to push a pram around the hills and trails.
The showers at the little house can be a little tricky as well (very hot or very cold) but this is really not a big deal and certainly not a reason to miss visiting this great spot.

A lovely villa set in peaceful surroundings with a wonderful view of the ocean. We found it to be in an excellent location for touring the North and East coasts of Madeira - although any destination is never very far away on this beautiful island. Many local restaurants enabled us to enjoy Madeiran meals at very reasonable prices. The supermarket in Santana was close enough to provide any supplies that we needed. The end-of-vacation barbeque provided by the owner was a fitting ending to a glorious 2-weeks of sun and relaxation by the pool. We will come again !
