Stunning location and excellent facillities. Colmenar is a very pretty village where you can buy most things but it is probably best to stock up initially at one of the bigger supermarkets as you leave Malaga. Look forward to a return visit.

Wonderful location for a relaxing week away. We were slightly perturbed by the bumpy mountain road on arrival and therefore very grateful for the guidance of Miguel to reach our destination, he could not have been more helpful to us throughout our time at Finca Lejos.
The location on the hillside is completely stunning, well worth the slightly bumpy entrance! Facilities onsite were a good standard, loved using the barbecue by the pool of an evening. Any small niggles were dealt with quickly and efficiently via messages to the UK-based property manager resulting in a visit from Miguel and co (we had trouble with the wifi on arrival).
Colmenar is a beautiful village, we enjoyed walking its beautiful streets very much and its close enough to Malaga et. al. to make day trips as straightforward as you like. Would definitely head there again (already pondering dates for next year)!

This property is absolutely fantastic! The pictures do not really do the stunning views and villa full justice. I stayed here with 7 friends for a relaxing week in the mountains with good food and wine, and that is exactly what we got. Most other reviews are very much family orientated and vehicle renters on their holiday- Our group was slightly different from the norm, in that we are all in our twentys and I believe are the first visitors to go without hiring a car for the duration! The villa is a lovely (warm) 20 minute walk from Colmenar centre which has a few nice bars (one British owned), butchers, bakeries, and a supermarket, so everything you need is nearby! The busses (more like coaches) are brilliant and you can visit a number of lovely towns with a bit of research of the links online. More about the villa- the 8 of us had more than enough living space with nice rooms and the poolhosue. We ate every lunch and dinner on the balcony overlooking the beautiful scenery. The sunrise and moonrise over the mountains is stunning! Pool was a perfect size and a fun/peaceful way to spend a week! Rocio, the villa rep based in the UK was a brilliant help, on call whenever you need her help or advice. Guillermo and Oliva dont speak a word of English but are so friendly and helpful, and Rocio makes communication possible (they even picked us up from the airport!). Oliva cooked dinner for us twice on request for a small price- serving stunning Spanish home cooked meals including a huge shellfish and chicken paella! Must try!!! Could go on forever about this villa- a great place to visit, had an amazing relaxing week, would definitely visit again!

Absolutely stunning. What a beautiful setting for a quiet, relaxing and peaceful break. The views from Finca Lejos were amazing, almond trees clinging upon hill after hill as far as the as the eye could see and to the river valley below.
The villa was fully equipped for everything you needed and more. The pool, just could not keep out of it, fabulous. Except for a couple of cars that went by on the track outside during the six days, we saw no one for the whole time there, just in the distance each morning was this one farmer plus his donkeys. He, just knocking the fruit off the trees with a long pole, otherwise complete silence. The sunrise each morning was spectacular. It was so “disappointing” so see a small white cloud one afternoon.
We were met on arrival by Guillem’s parents Oliva and Guillermo Balague, who are a lovely friendly, welcoming couple, although we speak no Spanish or even Catalan, we were able to communicate and interact extremely well. They are very proud of their son and the job he has with Sky Sports. Many thanks also to Rocio for making the Colmenar end of things as smooth as possible.
A couple of worthwhile trips out, was a visit to Antequera (Alcazaba, Bullring, Dolmens) plus a circular tour, south to Velez-Malaga, along the coast to Motril via Nerja, before heading north to Granada, after which, heading back to Colmenar. Next time maybe a trip to Comares, the pueblo blanco in the sky.
The local Dia supermercado was ok for basic needs, but in Antequera they have a large new Eroski hypermarket with a Lidl next door.
Being just a get-away for my wife and myself, we did not want to leave, just a wonderful time was enjoyed, being an ideal holiday home that shall no doubt be returned to, which cannot come too soon.

My family and I have just returned from staying in this villa. We had a fantastic holiday and got to experience real Spain. The villa is superb, ample space, and was an excellent home for us for 2 weeks. The facilities in the villa are first class and more than met our needs. The BBQ was well used and is a very good BBQ. With having 2 young children it was also ideal to have the freedom to do as we pleased, and were able to completely relax in the amazing private surroundings of the villa. The views are unbelievable and have to be seen to be believed. Guillermo and Oliva are extremely nice, and nothing is too much trouble for them. They maintain the villa, and its pool and grounds to extremely high standards. Although they dont speak English, Rocio was always there on the end of the phone to help us if required. The village of Colmenar is also very nice, as are the people. I would highly recommend this villa, and cannot fault it nor Guillermo, Oliva, or Rocio in any way. We had a fantastic holiday, and were looked after very well at all times. We would definitely go back.

We spent 2 fantastic weeks during August in this villa. It is situated high up on the mountain side and not really near any other villas - yet close enough to drive to the village for basic supplies from the mini-market. Despite being high up it was very hot during the middle of the day but there was ample cover on the terrace without having to retreat indoors but if we did I have to say that the air con was extremely efficient.
The pool was a delight and we used it daily. It was nice to have a midnight dip after a long day out on a visit and the water was about 28 degrees celcius - more than warm enough to just chill out in with a beer!
The kids used the separate pool house and it was nice to have the main building to ourselves.
The BBQ got good use and was the best one I have ever used.
I liked the evenings as the outdoor lighting around the property helped to set a very relaxing mood.
It is difficult to find anything negative to say about it really. We wanted a quiet holiday and this fitted the bill. Despite this we actaully went on daily trips on most days and everything worth visiting is about an hours drive away.
Comfortable, spacious, clean, quite - very nice indeed. What more can I say.

Fantastic property, within easy reach of the airport. Colmenar is a brilliant little town with all the essentials. The property is a good base to tour Andalucia with good roads to the coast & Granada, dont miss Antequera for a taste of the region untouched by tourism.
Our family had a great time, the property has everything you need for a good time, the pool is lush and we really didnt want to leave.
Guillermo & family were incredibly welcoming when showing us around their property and thanks also to Rocio for making sure our trip was a smooth one.
Highly recomended, I hope we can return some day soon.

We stayed for two weeks in August/September 2009 it was just a lovely property, after you drove down the narrow bumpy track to the house you soon realised that whilst you could see your neighbours you were not within ear shot. The house had a patio area which had a railing which bordered a valley and a fantastic view I spent a lot of time just staring at the valley. The pool was a proper pool not plastic, the air con in the house made a world of difference and the Free WiFi with 100% signal meant a lot to me.
The house had three bedrooms (two with air con) and the separate building contained a double bed, seating, and shower room with toilet and sink, again with air con.
Antonio and Sable came every two days to service the pool and water the garden and despite the language barrier, they helped us with any issues such as the spare gas bottle being empty.
The Sky TV all be it the free channels was useful especially the news channels and the main British TV channels, there was a DVD player and also a stereo.
We have rented a few houses in this price range but this was the best to date and we are considering re-booking for next year.

The house is in a fairly isolated spot but within easy reach of Colmenar by car. Views from the terrace are lovely and it is very peaceful.
It is well situated for visiting Nerja, Malaga, Frigliana and surrounding white villages, and Granada all of which we went to.
The property is well furnished and comfortable. We had some problems with the air conditioning whilst we were there which took some time to resolve but the owners contact (Rocio) made every effort to sort it out and the caretakers Antonio and Isabella, whilst speaking no english are lovely and were as helpful as they could be whilst respecting our privacy.
There was no information at the house as regards nearest supermarket, recommended restaurants, Drs etc - we are seasoned villa holidaymakers and have found some sort of visitor pack or even a book for comments useful in the past.
Overall we had an excellent holiday and would consider returning to the area.
Owner reply:
Many thanks for the review Julie - please note a document containing details of all nearby amenities etc should have been issued to you by email automatically by the Villarenters website - if this didnt happen well look into it. We agree with your comments about having a visitors/comments book and will implement this excellent idea. All air conditioning units are being replaced - we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused to your holiday. Thank you for your kind comments re Rocio, Antonio and Isabel - good staff are hard to find these days, so we have been extremely lucky!

Our family are totally refreshed and relaxed with batteries fully recharged after a rejuvenating two-week stay at Finca Lejos. The property has lots of character, including an innovative pool house, and offers spectacular panoramic views of the countryside and mountains. Just relax by the pool and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Car essential as the location is remote. There are numerous places within striking distance that are well worth a day out - such as Granada, Ronda, Nerja and Malaga.

We (family of 6 + granny in the pool house) all had an excellent time at Finca Lejos. I cant fault anything.
Excellent location for day trips to Malaga, Granada and Seville.
Colmenar had all the esssentials we needed to survive.
The villa and pool were clean and well maintained.
And wall to wall sunshine.
One of the best holidays weve had.

property was fantastic. Brilliant views and location however quite remote and no good if you want a vibrant nightlife, if peace and quiet is foremost in your mind, book here.
you need a sky TV card.
Pool fantastic, pool house lovely feature.
Antonio and his wife looked after us and ensured we had the holiday we wanted. Not intrusive but there to look after us. Car essential.
We would definitely go to this Finca and area again, a thoroughly enjoyable time, watch the moon rise over the mountains....stunning. See the clouds early, very early in the morning, in the valley disperse, stunning. Relax by the pool with a book, not overlooked, and get that tan with a Martini, what a life.
Owner reply:
Please note that a Sky card is now not required as there is one in the property at all times.

We stayed at the fabulous Finca Lejos for a week in July. This is a truly beautiful place...not only the high standard of the accommodation but also the breathtaking views of the mountains across the valley. We were welcomed by an extremely friendly caretaker on arrival which was a lovely way to start the holiday. The house itself has been finished to a very high specification the furniture is rustic yet practical and adds to the farmhouse effect of the property. The bedrooms and bathrooms (every room!) are beautifully clean and it is obvious that it is maintained extremely well between guests. The swimming pool is amazing, very clean, well maintained...the view from the pool across the valley is spectacular. There are many things that mark Finca Lejos apart from other self catering accommodation we have stayed in the welcome pack of essential food items on arrival (milk, bread, butter etc)...this was very handy for us as we arrived late on a Sunday evening, the on-hand Spanish/English translator to deal with any queries, the views...I could go on!! I would highly recommend Finca Lejos...its a peaceful place to spend your holiday and also close to larger towns and cities to explore. We are very relaxed after our week and cant wait to return next year!

I visited Casa Lejos at the end of May 2008 for a week with my wife and 3 children. It was just what we needed. We understood that we were one of the first renters to visit the place since it had undergone renovation and the pool and pool house developed. The place was immaculate everywhere and the pool house has gorgeous views and is totally brand new.
The path leading to the house is a country track, but most are around the area and the caretaker met us on the first day and directed us to follow him. His English wasn't good, but with a few arm and hand signals we got by. Anyway, there was always our interpreter on hand, provided by the owner. A quick call to her sorted a minor problem we had.
We are looking to visit again as we all feel revitalised from the air of the mountains.
The house was excellently furnished and we needed nothing else other than food or drink. A car is definitely recommended.
