Cyprus is situated in the eastern corner of the Mediterranean at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa. The third largest of the Mediterranean Islands, ranking in size after Sicily and Sardinia. Cyprus is steeped in history dated back to the Neolithic era, through the Greco-roman period with its myths and legends to conquest by Richard III and the crusaders. Later occupation by the Turks and finally once again by England has created an intriguing country with character and traditions all of its own. Numerous historical sites are to be found rubbing shoulder with modern cities. Seen as a whole Cyprus emerges as a fascinating mosaic of time, combining the old with the new, the past and the present. It is also an Island of great scenic beauty with a startling variety of landscapes from sandy beaches to charming, unspoiled villages nestling in vine clad foothills, from fertile citrus and olive groves to lofty forests of pine and cedar. Cyprus boasts a unique climate, mild Winters and hot dry Summers. The average temperature in summer is 26 - 29 and enjoys approximately 340 sunny days a year.
