This property is in a beautiful location surrounded by jungle and overlooking rice fields. It is only a short drive or enjoyable walk from the main beach area of hikkaduwa and is excellent value for money. It has all mod cons and makes for a very comfortable and relaxing stay. The terrace is even better than the pictures show and the rest of the property is exactly as described.
The property would be excellent for a couple looking to get some privacy from the main hustle and bustle of the beach hotels and guest houses. I stayed here for a week with a friend and Mahinda, the owner, kindly replaced the double bed with two singles. He went out of his way to help us and make us feel welcome and provided us with services such as rides into town, airport transfer and any other requests we had all while giving us our own privacy.
I would definitely recommend this property to friend and have vowed to return as soon as possible. The property and owners will make your stay in Hikkaduwa a memorable one and have you wishing you could stay a lot longer!

I booked the Jungle Retreat because I was looking for somewhere quiet to do some study during the winter months. Having stayed with my wife in downtown Hikkaduwa on a previous visit I knew how busy the main road could be and was looking for something off the beaten track, yet within a bike or tuk-tuk ride to the beach, bars and restaurants. The apartment was clean and well-maintained and had a verandah with views over the countryside where it was possible to view the birdlife and rural comings-and-goings. Mahinda has a great network of contacts and was able to organize trips and cater for any other requests. His airport transfer service is efficient and competitively priced. The Sri Lankan people are wonderfully hospitable and really do need the tourist income following the tsunami. The climate from Nov-Feb is superb, prices are low and I cant wait to return with my family.

The Jungle Retreat is the perfect place for a couple to stay in. The owners, Mahinda and Samanthe were the ideal hosts offering just the right amount of privacy. They are very friendly and their son. Poorna, is a credit to them.
The apartment itself was clean and well equipped and the owners provided anything that we found we needed, which was very little. They also cleaned the room on a regular basis.
As with any where in Sri Lanka, the ants were a bit of a problem initially, but a few cans of Ninja soon sorted them out.
Mahinda was able to organise our trip to Kandy which was trouble free and his driver was very friendly and knowledgeable.
On our last evning there Samanthe cooked us a wonderful rice and curry meal which we all ate sat on the veranda. We would like to say a big thanks to both of them for making our stay memorable and we look forward to the return trip next year.
