What to do?
Altea itself is set against the stunning backdrop of the Serra Bernia. Villa Carolina clings to the gentle hillside that leads down to the sea. Stroll through the peaceful Old Town with its narrow streets full of tradional Spanish houses -their whitewashed facades often teeming with bougainvilleas and geraniums. In the Plaza (illustrated on the photographs), the cultural and leisure centre of Altea is the Church of the Virgen del Consuelo (Our Lady of Solace). Around the church the streets are a jumble of fashionable shops, restaurants and a high quality craft market, that bursts into life in the evenings. Sit and eat while enjoying stunning views and the best in Mediterranean cuisine. Altea is still a working port and it is always a pleasure to spend the evenings watching the fishermen returning from a days toil with their catch which is usually auctioned on arrival.
Pavement cafés and bars overlooking the Mediterranean invite you to sit and have a drink and just enjoy the ambience of the port, after completing your shopping.
Groceries can be bought from a Supermarket on the main road before you start your assent to the Villa. This Supermarket has everything you will need to make it unnecessary to venture to the huge hypermarkets (Carrefour) and other shopping centres (Centro Comercial La Marina with fancy shops like Mango, Zara, etc... are about 20 minutes drive.

We believe that a car is desirable to enjoy the Villa & surrounding points of interest, though if you are a "keep fit fanatic" it will take you a good 20 minutes to walk up the hill to the Villa from the main road.
There is a railway station in the town that provides trains to Alicante, Benidorm and other Costa Blanca towns.
