Much more than expected
Review Submitted: September 13, 2010 Date of Stay: September 2010
We stayed at this very spacious house for 2 weeks, 5 adults and 3 children (1-4 years).
The house was great! Very large with lots of things you usually dont find: table tennis including rackets and balls, tennis rackets for the kids, a large Flat-TV with stunning sound system and a large DVD collection for kids, 10 pool beds, a very well-equipped kitchen, Internet connection and much much more.
The english owner supposed to stay there twice a year and this makes the difference. That is why it is so well-equipped and there are so many things you dont expect if it wasnt your home.
The landlord is very friendly, helps whenever help is needed (we broke the wine opener, he brought a new one within 15 minutes plus a bottle of wine!) and listens carefully to any suggestions which might make the place even better.
Yes, it was not Swiss-standard-superclean but it was ok. The Ukrainian maid is new and forgot to clean some parts. But a short message to the landlord and the cleaning after our first week was absolutely ok. He was very concerned about that complaint, so he improved the performance of the maid and promised to continue to do so.
The location of the house is great! It is in a cul-de-sac (dead-end street), very quiet. The pool is fantastic, especially since is has no clorine but salt water. The garden and terrasse have made us enjoy every night with dinner outside (lighted pool!).
It is a 15 minutes walk to the beach of Praia das Macas, a wonderful clean sand beach with lots of great restaurants. We have tried about 5-6 different ones there and all were stunning. Best beach views, very fresh fish and even the pizzeria was great.
There are a lot of portuguese on the beach and almost no german, english or other nations tourists. The portuguese are very friendly and relaxed. The only thing is that there is supposed to be some petty crime, so watch out for your stuff. The water current is very strong, so swimming is an adventure when waves are more than 1 Meter high. Surfing was a struggle with waves around 2 Meter and for me as intermediate almost impossible. But later at high tide with 1-1.5 meter waves, it was a dream!
I would recommend a car rental since there are so many things to see. Ericeira, Sintra, Cascais, Lisbon - all destinations worth visiting. But if budget is tight, there are very good bus connections to all these places.

The villa is in a great location, with a fantastic beach and restaurants within walking distance. Very spacious and private accomodation, the pool is wonderful, even larger than appears in the photo. The agent is friendly and helpful on arrival. Would recommend this for a family or large group holiday.

Fantastic villa, the pictures do not tell the full story. Even the annex is so well equiped it could be a holiday destination on its own. Even more inpressive though was the help privided by the owner on our arrival. We did not arrive until late when all the local shops had shut, he drove me to the nearest super market so I could grab some bits for the kids. Very help full. Highly recomended villa and the local village has all the estential shops and restaurants.

The Villa was in great location and facilities at the villa where excellent (table tennis lcd TVs ipod docks etc). The kitchen had every thing we needed and the actual size was great for our party of 6 adults and a child. The negative points where it wasnt very clean when we arrived, and we had problems with the hot water. Also dont expect to use the pool in october as it is not heated and ice cold!! But i would reccommend the villa and the area as there is so much to see and do, what ever the weather
