Rebuilding
The traditional Yannakakos building , is at the historical Taxiarches, 17th March 1821 square in Areopolis, capital of inner Mani. The house comprising an old nucleus dating from the 17th-18th century, was also rebuilded at a slow pace during the 19th and 20th century. It gradually augmented with new spaces and a courtyard and was rearranged on 1880 and 1932. It has been restored during 1995 and 1999 and has been converted to a traditional guest house. On June 1998 the ministry of Culture scheduled the building as a historical monument, being a part of the 26 buildings, surrounding the historical 17th March 1821 square. The houses are completely independent and each one of them has everything a couple or a small to very big family needs.
About Mani
Mani
The winding catwalks, the beautiful old as well as modern houses, purposely built as to respect the beautiful landscape, the two neighboring squares with their Churches, as well as the plethora of other Byzantine Chapels and the infamous towers split up a particular color to this traditional 1000 inhabitants village of ours, especially when the sun is setting down in the deep of the Messinian Gulf.
From here, the visitor may easily travel up-North to Limeni and Oitilo, or South from the Caves of Dyros to Cape Tainaro and have the unique opportunity to relish, during this season of the year in particular, the most imposing sound of Mani silence.
