We had an excellent holiday staying at Lavender cottage. It is very peaceful and relaxing. The pool was a definite plus as it was very hot when we stayed. The garden and pool are very private and safe for children. Paul the owner was very friendly and helpful and had a good knowledge of the area. Elena is a lovely town with nice restaurants and bars. The lady at the tourist information was very helpful and you can do a really nice tour of the town, taking in lovely buildings, churches and museums. The waterfall and the lake near by are great days out especially for the children and it was fun trying to find them ( you need a good map). Veilko Tarnovo is well worth a visit and the caves and Monastery at Dryanovo were excellent too. Great place, great time!!

Stayed with Paul as a party of four from Walsall and Aberystwyth UK. He was a great host, enjoyed his animals hospitality and boundless knowledge about Bulgarian life.
We all wish him and the family best wishes for their future life, and hope to meet up again.
Love Carol, Pete , Pammy and Phil.

I am writing this review with great memories, lovely experience at the cottage and village, meeting with a lovely couple – Carol and Paul who were so kind and generous
We stayed their for 4 days with our 3 children, we enjoyed every moment, the place is clean, we and the kids enjoyed the pool, the swings, the garden.
It is an excellent base to visit Elena, Veliko Tornovo and near by attractions.
The village is quiet, lovely view. The only "noise" :-) is from the goats, sheep, cows and chickens.
Great place to relax and enjoy, we very much recommend

Carole and Paul have created a very special place in beautiful Bulgarian countryside. The house and the gardens and pool are very well looked after and Carole and Paul gave us excellent advice about local beauty spots. We would have no hesitation in staying there again.

We have just returned from 2 weeks in Lavender cottage and would without any reservation recommend a stay here.
Paul and Carol are superb hosts and a joy to be around. They are a wealth of knowledge of the region, can not do enough to help you and are so warm and welcoming that it is like visiting a particularly favourite Aunt and Uncle.
We had all sorts of plans to visit sights around the area all of which vanished as we were hypnotised by the beauty and tranquillity of the house and its gardens. There is complete peace with the only sounds being the rich and varied bird song and the occasional rooster or goat sounding in the distance from the village below. There are hundreds of butterflies and birds to watch, including a Golden Eagle, and a beautiful pool to cool down in. After two weeks of that we all came back more relaxed that we have been in many years.
For the days when you can tear yourself from a hard days relaxing there is the lovely little town of Elena nearby and about 50 minutes away Veliko Tarnovo with its beautiful cobbled medieval looking streets.
If you want crowds and busy nightlife stay away, if you want relaxing tranquillity stay here.

Very much agree with the positive feedback from other guests. We had a fantastic week in Lavender Cottage. Carole and Paul are both extremely welcoming and helpful, without in any way being intrusive. They can advise on pieces to go and restaurants, shops etc. Paul even picked us up and gave other assistance beyond the call of duty when our hired car broke down. The swimming pool was much used and appreciated by my family (we visited in August). There is plenty to do and see in the area, which is beautiful. Definitely recommended.

We had a fantastic time. The property and gardens were lovely. The kids particularly enjoyed the pool and swings. It was an excellent base for visiting Elena and Veliko Tarnivo. The nearby mountains and lakes are beautiful. Our hosts were very knowledgeable of the area, approachable, kind and helpful. We look forward to staying here again.

If you want a truley rural Bulgarian experience then this is the place. It is almost as if the 21st century has passed by. The cottage was very comfortable and the swimming pool fantastic. The village is small and quiet with a couple of shops selling the basics: bread, tomatoes, cheese. olives....what more do you need! There is hardly any traffic - but plenty of goats, sheep, cows and chickens. The towns of Elena and Veliko Turnovo are nearby and worth a visit.
Carole and Paul are excellent hosts and being English can give lots of inside information about life in Bulgaria.

Very much recommended. Carol and Paul were very good to us, helpful and informative about Bulgaria. We actually booked both cottages for 6 of us which was just great and so we had the benefits of both cottages and thus the space. We enjoyed the veranda linked to Rose Cottage and the views of the village and the hills. The pool was just great and kept very clean it was a good size for 6 to play volley ball (!) and had plenty of sun loungers. We all also enjoyed the lovely bed linen! All the little things made a difference! The garden was also lovely with a hammock and swings, plus fire flys in the evening. Elena and surrounding areas were also great and very relaxing (except for Bulagrian drivers! need to keep alert!). Some very historic places to visit and very beautiful/interesting. But the hills are not touristy at all, and the Black Sea coast is another world - but good to visit for a day! So travellers to the middle of Bulgaria need to expect the rustic side of village life, horse and cart, shepherds and sheep or goats and RELAX! Go for some lovely walks or drives, or relax in the sun and reward yourself with a cheap beer and a cheap meal out! What more could you want? I have thus recommended the cottages to all my friends! One thing is that Varna airport would have been better than Sophia. But it was a great drive and the car company at the airport was also good.

Set on a hill overlooking the village, this quaint cottage in traditional Bulgarian style was just what was needed after a hectic year.
We celebrated New Years there and booked out both of their cottages which slept 10 people in total.
We will definitely return in the summer to make use of the pool and the terrace with BBQ.
Lovely walks in the mountain, horse-riding, sledding and extensive R & R.
Our hosts Carole and Paul catered to our every whim without being intrusive.
Fantastic place, friendly hosts, idyllic location, highly recommended!
