IRIS - 2 bed farmhouse apartment in Florence hills

Podere Albereto is a characteristic Tuscan farmhouse set among the rolling hills above Florence overlooking the San Polo in Chianti valley. The IRIS apartment is on the ground floor of a converted barn which retains many of its typical Tuscan features such as the brick-latice windows and wooden beams, but also has modern facilities like wi-fi internet access.
It has two independent entrances, one from the main courtyard and the other opening onto the apartments private garden. IRIS is 60 sqm. The main entrance frm the private garden opens into the kitchen, dining and living area which comfortably accommodates 5 people. The fitted kitchen has all the necessary modern equipment and household utensils . The very spacious master bedroom has a king-size bed fitted wardrobes a basin with running water and, if required, there is plenty of room for a further single bed and cot. Access to the main courtyard is through the French doors of this bedroom. The second bedroom has a double bed which can be separated into twin beds. The bathroom has a shower, basin, w.c. and bidet.
The private garden equipped with table and chairs and sun loungers is ideal for outdoor dining, you can admire the spectacular view while sipping a glass of red-wine, a bottle is given to all guests on arrival compliments of the owners. This accommodation is ideal for a family or two couples.

Podere Albereto - the estate

The property is located just 13 km from Florence in the heart of the Tuscan countryside with breathtaking views of the Florentine hills. The estate of 10 hectares of olive trees, fields and woodland is only 2 km from the village of San Polo in Chianti at 350 m above sea level. Even in the height of summer there is a cool breeze in the evening so air conditioning isnt necessary.
In San Polo you can find 2 good restauran, two small supermarkets, post office and bank.
The owners of the property, Fabio and Trinidad, live in the main farm building and are always happy to provide information and assistance about things to do and see in the area and further afield. Olive oil is produced and sold on the estate and you will also be able to admire and purchase the beautifully hand-crafted vases, pottery and paintings created by Trinidad in her workshop at Podere Albereto.
The area around San Polo is famous for its Chianti Gallo Nero red wine, olive oil and the cultivation of a special kind of sword lily or "Iris", known locally as " Giaggiolo", used in the perfume and cosmetic industries, and which gives the hills a beautiful lilac/purple hew in Spring.

Florence province

Tuscany offers an infinte number of historic and cultural attractions. Florence, birthplace of the Renaissance, must be visited for its monuments, cathedral, world famous museums and the Uffizzi gallery. You can get to Florence in under 30 minutes by car from Podere Albereto. Its also possible to get a local bus from San Polo for those who dont want to drive into the city.
Siena, home to the Palio horse-race, is only 30 km away and the local Chianti area abounds with magnificent churches, turreted castles and ancient hamlets. It is also easy to take day trips to Arezzo, San Giminiano, Lucca, Pisa and why not visit the Tyrrhenian coast with its beautiful unspoilt beaches.
It goes without saying that one of the main attractions in this region is the food. Try the local delicacies: Bistecca alla Fiorentina (t-bone steak), pappa al pomodoro, ribollita, to name a few. We can recommend some excellent restaurants.
