Property and local area description
Villa Carmen
Sympathetic new build 3 bed village house, with all modern conveniences, includes two toilets, one main bathroom. Nestled in a valley with stunning views over the hills and forests of the Tarnave Mare, with a large courtyard and garden - perfect for barbecues.
The village
Biertan is one of the premier tourist destinations in the Saxon area of Transylvania. It is infused with several hundred years of history and the buildings are as if in a medieval timewarp. The church in the centre of the village is one of the most important examples of fortress churches in the world. There is a good restaurant in the centre of the village, serving local and international fayre. The village is surrounded by vineyards. There is a wine cellar on the edge of the village, as well as a factory making cheese.
The area
Biertan is in the centre of the Tarnava Mare region of southern Transylvania. The village is an excellent base for making trips to the surrounding villages and towns. The village is a short taxi journey from Sighisoara, the most well-preserved medieval town in Europe, but being calmer and quiter than Sighisoara provides a more relaxing place to be based.
