Large beautifully restored 3 bed-roomed villa, including mezzanine levels to bedrooms 2 and 3, with private pool, situated on the edge of a small village deep in the French county-side whilst being close to all amenities.
Owners overview
Having run a successful B+B on the West coast or Ireland for 10 years, we decided to live our dream and move to France in 2006. We then fully restored a Charentaise farmhouse that we now run as a holiday villa.
La Lavende is situated on the edge of a small village literally a stones throw from the market town of Aulnay de Saintonge where you will find a supermarket, Bakers, Restaurants, Bars, Hairdresser, Chemist, Banks, Public Library, Tennis Courts and its lively Sunday Market where you can buy fresh local produce. It also has a fine example of a Romanesque Church that hosts Choral evenings from time to time.
Nearby is the pretty market town of St Jean d’Angely with its large Wednesday and Saturday markets offering a delight in colour and ambiance. Here you will find many shops, Supermarkets, Bars and Restaurants offering French and international cuisine.
Accommodation
A short picturesque access lane leads up to the house and large secure parking area. La Lavende offers spacious accommodation and is set in beautiful tranquil gardens with fully maintained private pool and of course absolute peace and quiet.

Dining room, 13 sq metres with large extendible dining table and chairs for all guests.
Bedroom One 24 sq metres with en-suite shower, wash basin WC and bath, double bed with ample wardrobe and drawer space.
Bedroom Two 25 sq metres including mezzanine floor with 3 single beds again with ample wardrobe and drawer space.
Bedroom Three 25 sq metres including mezzanine floor with 1 double bed and a single bed on the mezzanine again with ample wardrobe and drawer space.
Second separate shower and wash basin.

Fully equipped modern Kitchen including dish washer, micro wave, oven and hob, integrated fridge-freezer, sink, kitchen linen also provided.
Utility room with washing machine, ironing board with iron.
There are several eating areas outside depending on how much sunshine you like. To the rear is a large split level patio area for dining or just relaxing by the private pool 9.5m x 4.5m. Large table and chairs, BBQ, Sun-loungers and Parasols are provided.
Also to the rear is a private landscaped garden and beyond that is a large lawn with trees backing onto open fields and countryside.
All bed linen, towels and beach towels are provided.
Cot and highchair are available on request.
The owners do not live on site, although they attend to the pool and rear vegetable garden every couple of days and visits are normally made very early in the morning or as agreed so as not to disturb guests.
Out and about
La Lavande is within easy reach of the local towns of St Jean D’Angely, Niort and Saintes. Larger Towns such as La Rochelle, Rochefort, Angouleme, Bordeaux and Poitiers are between 1 to 11/2 hours drive away.
The area is ideal for exploring the Poitou Charente region. Rolling hills and very little traffic together with some of the best sunshine in France makes it ideal for walking and cycling. Being at the heart of the Cognac region, numerous distilleries can be found nearby as well as local wine producers who welcome visitors for tastings. Why not try some of the regions aperitif Pineau, which is made from cognac and unfermented grape juice.
Other attractions such as Coulon near Niort where you can explore its twisty rivers by boat.
Marais Piotevin with its marshes and outstanding natural beauty.
The nearby Ile D’Oleron and Ile de Re with its many sea food restaurants, oyster beds, beaches and small colorful villages make a really fantastic day out.
Numerous beaches are found within a relatively short distance, the nearest being Chatelaillon-Plage next to La Rochelle which is about 45 minutes drive, where you will find many beach-side restaurants.
Other beaches such as La Palmyre near Royan are about an hour away.
Or simply lounge around over a glass or two of wine by the pool whilst the BBQ warms up.
