  • Los Cortijos is a very typical, romantic place. It has been built 23 years ago, using old materials which gives it an authentic atmosphere. Every house has its own style and character, decorated with style, but basic, simple and clean, so therefore it can offer you the acceptable prices. The garden with it´s palm trees and weeping willows is like an oasis, and providing welcoming shade in the hotter months.

The cottage is in a quiet area but you may hear occasional noise. It has access to a shared swimming pool, a west facing garden, a east facing patio area, a barbeque. If you are driving there is private parking with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.

We have been in this house six years ago so we knew what we could expect. When we compare the price to accommodations in Portugal, La Violeta is very expensive. It's a nice place to stay but a lot of noise during the nights from partying people in the neighbourhood. Property-owner is very friendly.

We've been at "Los Cortijos" on the 2nd half of July, 2005. We found it a very special place run by very kind and special people. All this turned our staying in an excellent time in an atmosphere of great relaxation where you really feel you're on holidays. The houses, involved by a very pleasant garden, are really spanish typical style. All in all, we felt very well there and have been received by the couple in charge as friends. We intend to return next year.

Los Cortijos is a group of properties run by a couplewho live in one of the small houses. In genera l the houses and garden areas were very attractive. Los Cortijos No 8, where we stayed, was slightly removed from the other houses and, whilst the house was in good condition, the garden and terrace area were not well looked after. Wall mounted flower pots with dying geraniums, a dirty outside table and dog poo on the grass contributed to an unkempt feel to the place. We also had problems with a very noisy well pump outside the bedroom which was easily fixable, but not done and finally mosquitoes at night made it very difficult to enjoy an evening sat outside.

If these relatively small problems were sorted and plug in mosquito repellants/nets and coils/joss sticks were provided Los Cortijos No 8 would be a very pleasant place to stay.

Los Cortijos was a perfect base for spending time on the beach and we enjoyed several days with large expanses of beach and blue ocean to oursleves.

Villarenters comment: One star seems a bit harsh...mosquitos are a fact of life in rural areas, though a bit of a tidy up in the garden area sounds like a good idea?
