We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Under the Oaks The property was very spacious for our family of 7, and also well-equipped. There is a washing machine, dish washer and tumble dryer. There were plenty of towels provided, and full bed linen.
A welcome pack of food was a lovely surprise on arrival - wine, bread, meat and cheese. The owner, David, was very helpful in showing us around the lovely village of Diever, arranging bike hire for us and even allowing us to access the internet through his own internet provider.
Everything was clean and comfortable, it was a real home from home. The property is central within the village and very close to shops and village amenities. The only real drawback was the noise of traffic as the property is on a road which seems to be in use at all hours of day and night, carrying lorries, motorbikes and other noisy vehicles.
As we live in the quiet countryside at home, we never quite got used to the traffic noise. However, this was a minor issue and certainly did not spoil our break in any way - there was lots to do in the area and we would have liked to have stayed longer as there were so many things we didnt have time for.
Owner reply:
Glad to hear that you all enjoyed staying at 'Under the Oaks' and in our beautiful village of Diever. Just wish to add that during your stay, the Grand Prix motorbike races in Assen (25 minutes to the north of us) had just come to a close, and some of the spectators (mostly on motorbikes!) did pass through our village on their way home. Fortunately, this only happens at certain times of the year. Also, at this time of year, some of the farms in the surrounding area do use heavy machinery which will pass now and then through the village. We are sorry if this did cause any disturbance but glad to hear that it did not spoil your holiday in any way. We hope to see you again at the farmhouse as there were many attractions which you didn't have time to see on this occassion. We very much enjoyed showing you around our village and it was a pleasure to assist you during your stay.

We have really enjoyed our week here. The bike rides were fun and have inspired me to carry on when I get home. I may even buy a Dutch bike!! Would love to come back one day. Bettina
Were on our way back to Texas. Mike and I have really enjoyed our stay here. Our hosts made us very welcome. We would recommend this house to anyone! Caroline and Mile
I have spent a really lovely holiday here with my family. I would point out that I have not ridden a bicycle in over 50 years but I managed it (not sure about my spelling though!!) Really great. Mary.

The spacious beautiful home far exceeded our expectations.. The complementary bottle of wine and breakfast goodies was so much appreciated. David was extremely helpful to us as we had many questions regarding the area. Diever is absolutely the perfect village, with nearby restaurants on cute cobble stoned roads..you really get a good taste of the culture that a large city could not touch.

As international visitors it was pleasing to arrive to our home and find it fully prepared for our stay.
The warm and friendly welcome we received and the welcome pack of food and goodies exceeded our expectations.
This was followed up with handy advice on what this community had to offer us.
We really loved the local shops, walking/cycling tracks and the genuine warmth of the local people.
We look forward to returning again in the future.

The accomidations were perfect for a family of nine. The location was ideal for biking Drenthe which is why we came to the Diever area. David and Monique couldnt have been better hosts, they helped us through our stay in so many ways to make sure we enjoyed our vacation instead of having to do household chores. They took care of us well beyond our expectations. I would not only recommend Under the Oaks to friends, but we hope to go back again in our future.

Sylia & I cant thank you enough for making our family holiday a very special time for all of us. After to having postpone our vacation a year due to the accident we had & your help in getting it rescheduled, it was as if we had known you both for a few years. For all your help to us & our children is just hard to say thanks, from all of us. The farm house, location in Drenthe, was perfect for all the biking we wanted to do. Your house was very comfortable for all nine of us and your help with bike, train, restaurant and the local open-air Shakespeare theater reservations we greatly appreciated! This being our 5th trip to bike Holland, we have seen a lot of the country, but Drenthe will remain our favorite & we shall return. After a month here we still hate to leave. Under the Oaks we will recommend to all interested in really seeing rural Holland. From all of the Rast family who so much enjoyed our stay, we say thanks for making it so through your hospitality. With our best regards, Gary & Sylvia Rast, Williamsburg, Virginia, USA

We were more than pleased with the spacious, clean, welcoming feeling that we expereinced from start to finsh. David and Monique were most helpful, accomodating and informative in regards to any questions that we had.
The arrival package was most apprecative. We already have recommended to our friends this lovely renatal property and are planning on returning ourselves in the near future.
What a wonderful way to experince the Dutch way of life, culture and hospitality

The owner David and his family was very welcoming, he had lots of info on things to do and see in the local area. The welcome pack was very useful and the house was more than adequately stocked for four adults and two babies. It was a great first family holiday and we hope to return in the future
We really enjoyed our first holiday in Holland

This is a charming farmhouse, but conveniently located in a very walkable village. Everything was both functional and comfortable.
Probably the best feature is the gracious helpfulness of the owners who live nearby. We arrived late in the evening and they had thoughtfully stocked the kitchen with the basics for breakfast--a marvelous surprise and well beyond our expectations. Throughout the stay they were very wiling to provide local knowledge and tips for things to do.
We would definitely stay there again!

A very low carbon footprint holiday! Beautiful countryside, just a cycle ride in every direction. Thank you for all your suggestions. We have been to some very different places, and only wish we had time to visit them all. Thank you for a warm welcome and a relaxing stay. Susan, Aidan, Frank & Rose.
Wonderful holiday home and a great welcome. Thank you very much - we will recommend it to friends in England! Best wishes, Bridget, Mike & Anna Broadhurst

Our second year at "Under the Oaks" and again highly recommended. Both David and Monique made us welcome from the start with the welcome pack and friendly greeting. The accommodation and area are excellent for a break in very friendly Netherlands.

I would highly recommend this property, the accommodation was spacious, comfortable and very clean. Gnd floor bedroom ideal for elderly as shower and WC easily accessible. Steep stairs to first floor with stair gate provided, all bedrooms comfortable and airy. Well-equipped kitchen. The owner has provided books and games in case of bad weather. Welcome pack on our arrival was a very nice touch.
Situated in the centre of a busy village, close to local shops, restaurants and well stocked supermarket nearby.
Diever is ideal for horse riding and cycling with many cycle paths close by, cycle hire is easily available. Lots to do in and around the area with a good bus service. We found the Dutch people were very friendly and helpful and we never found communicating a problem.
The owner, David and family were extremely hospitable and nothing was too much trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in “Under the Oaks” and in Diever.

What a great place! The area is magnificent loads to do and see. Bike hire is cheap and simple - aided by the fact that nearly everyone speaks English which is a bonus when negotiating rentals.
the house itself was better than we imagined - 3 adults and 3 very active young children and we still weren't tripping over each other. David and Monique were a godsend (so was the route planner) nothing was too much trouble. Pity they couldn't sort out the weather as easily as they found the information we needed.
Overall an excellent holiday and one I would not hesitate to recommend to any one.

For a quiet and peceful break, we found this place to be perfect. A beautiful cottage in a beautiful village. As Holland is so small, and we had a car, travelling to places was easy from Diever aswell as being a great place to get away and chill out from everything.Restaurants and shopping all within walking distance and the cottage had everything that you would need. Our hosts made sure we had food in the cottage on arrival and showed us around the village when we arrived so we new where everything was. They were also available at any time to answer any questions or give advice. On our trip around Europe we found this place of a weeks accommodation the best value.

The owners were very gracious and helpful, including helping us make arrangements with Dutch speakers at places we wanted to visit. The house was in good condition and the amenities were as advertised, and in some respects better than advertised. The location is good and provides convenient access to much of the east and northeast Netherlands. The neighborhood was quiet and the surroundings were pleasant.
