Welcome to the Dolce Vita
The villa is situated beneath the Motovun town walls, on the hill dominating the wonderful Mirna river valley. It overlooks the ancient Motovun oak forest rich with truffles, mushrooms of sublime taste, and the slopes where grapes for famous Istrian wines are grown. The interior is spacious (350 m2) and has been beautifully furnished and decorated with attention to details. The villa surroundings, with olive trees and a small vineyard, give complete privacy around the stone decked pool. A covered terrace with a barbecue provides the perfect outside dining area by the pool from where you can enjoy sunsets over the valley. Motovun legends, smells and tastes all came together into a distinct atmosphere that also rubbed off the Dolce Vita.
Land of Giants
An old legend states that long ago giants lived in the valley of the River Mirna. They were so big that they could, looking at the towns on the hillsides above Mirna, hand each other tools and big rocks. One of the towns that were built by the giants during this legendary time was Motovun. Many years later, when Istria was inhabited by ordinary people, the giants began to disappear. However according to legends and the stories of Vladimir Nazor the noted Motovun giant Veli Jože was so big and strong that he could shake the bell tower of the Motovun church with his bare hands.

Motovun is a town-monument, an ancient Istrian acropolis town located atop a 277 metre high hill, whose present appearance dates back to the Middle Ages, from the 12th and 13th century. Leading to the top of the hill and its Venetian town square is the longest Istrian staircase, with 1052 steps.

From the rich architectural heritage of Motovun especially noteworthy are the city gates with tower, renaissance town palace, town lodge, parish church Saint Stephan, the smaller churches of Madonna dei Servi and Madonna delle porte, the medieval lay outof the streets, town cisterns and many coats of arms on the building facades. The position and vistas of Motovun make it one of the most beautiful towns on the Mediterranean.

Around Motovun lie vineyards from which come the renowned Istrian wines, teran and malvasia, while the Motovun forest, which extends for kilometres along the Mirna valley, is the dwelling place of the famed underground mushrooms, truffles that are extracted in this region with the help of specially trained dogs. Summer and early autumn is the period when black truffles come to fruition, whereas the Istrian white truffles are gathered in late autumn and winter. In the month of October, in numerous places in the Mirna Valley, festivities of "The days of truffles" are held.

Motovun has historically been the most significant inhabited locality in the surrounding area according to recent research by "New Age" scientists. The significance of this town is due to its positioning on the crossroads of the Earths energetic meridians that is on the so called "Dragons furrow". These meridians emanate positive Earth life energy into their surroundings and in places where these "furrows" intersect, as in the case of Motovun, strong sources of positive energy appear, they are the "breathing orifices" of the planet Earth. Such energy fields have a relaxing and calming effect on man, increasing his concentration and spirituality, offering rest and rejuvenation, are conducive to meditation and generate creativity and tolerance. This may be the reason why there are so many gatherings and social events attended by people from all over the world in Motovun.

Whats around?
Motovun is a medieval town-monument with a golf course, natural spring wells and spa, horseback riding and a international film festival. Great restaurants, taverns, vineries, cafes are all around the villa. The Adriatic coast is 20min away with the beaches and tourist towns of Porec, Rovinj, Novigrad... 45 min away is Pula and Brijuni islands national natural park. You can even get to Porec on a mountain bike trail that runs just under the estate. The trail used to be an old railroad... and the original stone tunnels and bridges are still preserved. From Porec you can make a boat trip to Venice. Just over the border a 30min car drive is the city of Trieste with great shopping. This property is a perfect spot in Motovun for large partys. The tasteful lay out, the garden and the breath taking view over the vineyard and the Mirna valley are the star facers of the property. It is definitely one of the best locations in Motovun area. Amenities’ are in a walking distance.

Review submitted by non-Villarenters customer: We are a group of 5 couples in our early fifties who have just enjoyed a week in this beautiful villa.
The owners, welcomed us to the villa on our first day. We found the villa to be clean and well maintained and thought that the photographs and descriptions gave an accurate reflection of the villa and the facilities on offer. The kitchen was kitted out with plenty of good quality cooking equipment (but would benefit from a larger and faster kettle for tea drinkers!) and we particularly enjoyed the barbecue and outside eating area.
We were all bitten by midges - something beyond the control of the owners - so remember to take lots of insect repellants.
It was easy to find our way around in Istria. The roads are excellent and very quiet. We enjoyed days in Rovinj (a beautiful coastal town) and the seaside resort of Novigrad. Motovun itself is stunning and well worth the climb.
Eating at the villa was made easy with large supermarkets available in Buzet and Pazin, each about 20 minutes drive away (and open until about 8pm Mon - Sat). There is a small shop across the road from the villa for essentials, including tasty bread. Eating out and drinking was also excellent value. We particularly enjoyed a meal at the Hotel Kastel in Motovun with spectacular views of the sunset.
All in all - an enjoyable holiday in a beautiful villa, surrounded by unspoilt countryside.
