"The property was generally well presented although we did have a few problems such as the main bedroom door not opening from the inside. There was also problems with the air conditioning in the upstairs bedroom, althought the sseemed to be working fine once the engineer came out to look at it. Apart from that it was quite a nice villa."

"The villa is in a great location for the beach - a few minutes walk, and a 10 minute walk from the supermarket and commercial centre. I felt that it was well worth paying for the maid service - as well as cleaning the villa they provided clean sheets and towels twice a week. The people at HBK reception were also very helpful. Make sure that you do not pay for sun loungers on the beach - there are some that are for villa users and are free (they are blue & white) - you are supposed to find the villa representative and see him for beds - I was there for a month and didnt see him once! I visit Antigua twice a year and have not stayed in this particular villa before - the description is accurate and I would definitely stay here again."

"Just as we expected! Very nice villa, very close to the beach. The villa was very well equipped, clean and tidy. I would return without hesitation. Thank you."

"The villa was in a beautiful position and very conveniently located for both the beach (2 min walk) and the pool, marina, shops, bars and restaurants (5 min walk) and generally I thought Jolly Harbour was an excellent and a secure location for a holiday on Antigua. The only slight disappointment was that the Casino building was closed (due to some kind of goverment dispute) and the building is starting to look a little neglected, which is a shame. It also meant that the selec tion of bars and restaurants was more limited than we hoped (those in the casino bulding have had to close down). Having said that, there are plenty other good places to eat in the nearby area a short taxi ride away. Other than that, the facilities were good (nice swimming pool, tennis courts and lovely marina) and I would recommend hiring bikes as we found it a great way to see the island. We found the villa to have everything we needed, including a well stocked kitchen and lovely terrace. Only slight problems were that the TV/DVD did not work and that the garage door was extremely stiff and couldnt be opened. Both problems were reported to the management company who did come round to investigate but unfortunately couldnt fix during our time at the villa. Hopefully both have now been resolved. One small point - I felt that the interior was looking a little tired for a luxury villa (no doubt as a result of its popularity and many years of renting) and some areas, particularly the bathrooms, could do with a bit of attention. However this did not deter from our stay and I would still recommend the villa and felt it represented good value for money compared to others we looked at in the Jolly Harbour area. "

"We have just got back from a wonderful two weeks in Antigua, Lee the owner was very helpful prior to our visit and answered our 101 questions! Villa 229B is good for a self catering holiday on the South Finger and is comfortable and well equipped and found the beds to be very comfortable. We could have done with sharper knifes and a broom as the floor needed sweeping everyday as we had a mobility scooter with us and the sand came of the tyres. We could have also done with more towels we only had 1 hand towel and 4 bath towels between 4 adults so when you washed your hair you had to leave it dripping while you used it then try to dry your hair with a wet towel or vice versa, we did have the maid service but wouldnt properly bother again because they only came 3 times, we arrived on the Monday Afternoon the maid came on the Thursday of that week then on the Monday and Thursday of our second week. we did use the washing machine without any problems as we had to wash the towels otherwise we would have had to use them for 3 days twice a day before they got changed. We had the air conditioning but found we preferred the fans on through the night. The villa is a few minutes walk to the wonderful beach the sunbeds a free to use, you will keep getting asked when you arrive on the beach if you want a bed decline as you will have to pay for them, get a blue and white stripped one yourself as these are free of change and belong to the villas we were told that the brown ones were also free but we never used them. The villa is approx 10-15 minutes walk to the swimming pool, restaurants & bars, supermarket and other shops in the marina this wasnt a problem as it was a very pleasant walk, but you can hire a buggy if you want we hired one for 2 days it cost about £23 p/d but if you had it longer it got cheaper about £20 p/d. The food in the restaurants was very good especially Mellinis the Italian, we also ate at Castaway on the beach (which do great cocktails especially while watching the wonderful sunset), BBR Sports bar by the pool and the Dogwatch Tavern (although now closed), there is also Petes Steakhouse which we didnt eat at but seemed very popular. We always had breakfast in the villa but if you want you can get it from Mellinis, Petes Steakhouse and Castaway, I would recommend that tables are pre-booked for dinner especially as it is now going into peak season (Dec-May) we wanted to go to the Steakhouse on Friday and it was fully booked we tried again on the Sunday to find it was closed for the evening. We did find because the dollar as fallen the prices are now a little high it cost about £70 for a two course meal and a bottle of wine for 2 in Mellinis, some drinks were reasonable a bottle of beer £1.50-2.00 a bottle, Cocktails £3.00-4.00 a glass (paying in EC). The Casino as closed down (Allegedly moved to another part of the island) so there is no electricity in there and Saffrons & the gladiators bar cant open. Also the Dogwatch Tavern Restaurant closed down last Friday but the bar is still open. If you want to stay in for the evening you can get a takeaway from the restaurants or Supermarket, which is also very well stocked if you want to cook. We also ate out at Sheer Restaurant (Cocobay Resort) and Denniss Restaurant & Cocktail Bar which both was excellent and the views are fantastic. If you want a special day sailing we can highly recommend Miramar, we had a fantastic 8 hours sailing including watching the sunset. We also hired a taxi and had a wonderful day going around the Island we saw Bettys Hope, devils Bridge, English Harbour with Nelsons Dockyard and Shirley Heights where the views are also fantastic, we also went into St Johns on the local bus which was fun and very cheap 3EC and felt very safe at all times. We found everyone to be really friendly both in and out of the resort. The security in Jolly Harbour is excellent cars was stopped as they entered and they also patrolled around the site. My wife is disabled although it does say they are not wheelchair friendly if you can manage the stairs then there is not a problem and getting around the resort is very easy. We cant believe we are back home, We will definitely return and for longer next time."

"The property is superbly located on the South Finger of Jolly Harbour meaning most ameneties are within walking distance. Alternatively a golf buggy is not too costly!. The Villa was well stocked with everything we required for a self-catering holiday. (Only issue - Washing machine was a little unpredictable and got stuck on a programme once). Maid service was excellent - clean sheets and towels every other day. villas on either side on us being renovated but this was not a problem and in actual fact mean't we had no noise from neighbours! The Supermarket was well stocked and had everything we needed with two small children. Security was very good. Bar at harbour (by La Perla sales office) excellent for early evening drinks. Mellini's great italian food on the one occasion we ate out. Horse Riding at Spring Hill Riding School - (Near Falmouth Harbour) enjoyable and horses well cared for. Constructive criticism - beaches very busy at times when cruise ship passengers arrived most days. We didn't find out until our last day that we needn't have paid £10 per day for sun beds as their are beds reserved on the beach for Jolly Harbour residents! Overall a fantastic holiday - now a distant memory, we will definitely be back. Thank You."

"We have just retruned from a fantastic holiday in Antigua. The villa was nicely decorated, clean and spacious. It had all mod cons and was very well maintained. The owner was really helpful prior to our visit and seemed like a really friendly and genuine guy. We went in June and found it quite hot and humid so definately needed the air con. Beautiful beaches, great trips out - really recommend Eli's eco tour and the extreme tour - best days out of the holiday. Cocos and Mellinis were excellent and the latter great value for money. Lastly the Antiguans are lovely, really friendly and can't seem to do enough to help. Can't wait to return."

"After 19 years as being together as a family this was our best holiday yet. We only wished our eldest daughter, who has chosen to holiday with her friends, could have experienced this wonderful place and its people. Therefore as a holidaying family of four the villa and its surroundings were perfect. "

"This vila is fantastic! In a great location - about a 5 minute walk to the lovely beach (although you do get a bit of hassle from people trying to selll you things, which can get mildly irritating), and Castaways - a great little beach bar for lunch and dinner. The marina complex also has a host of other restaruants like and Italian, Steakhouse etc as well as a well-stocked supermarket so you can eat in if you like. The villa itself came with all the comforts you would expect and represents great value for money. Furniture was comfortable, and the upstairs and downstairs terraces terrific! Venture out of the complex as well if you can though - we kept a car with us all the time, but 4/5 days would be enough to explore the island fully. Shirley Heights on a Sunday and Half Moon Bay were particularly good! "

"Our holiday was fantastic. The villa is in a great location on the Jolly Harbour Villas site. The deserted beach is just gorgeous and only a few minutes walking away. The pool about a ten minute stroll away, no hardship when you’re on holiday and chilling to the slow pace of the Caribbean. This longer stroll can easily be overcome by renting a golf buggy. We were only going to hire it for the day after our first week but ended up having it for the whole final week. The longer you hire it the cheaper it gets, at about £15 p/d. Watch out though for the level of fuel as they like you to think it goes out full when in reality the chances in that are slight. The villa has all the items you would expect to have at home. We did not at anytime think “we could do with this or that”, it was just right. If you so desire you could cook in the villa, as all the utensils are there. We only had breakfast at the villa, but you do not even need to do that as Castaways on the beach do a fine breakfast. Beds were comfortable and the air conditioning was wonderful, especially at night. Eating out was about the same cost for a family of four in the UK. There are several restaurants on site and I can safely say we never had a bad meal at any of them. It was lovely food and of a good standard. You could get a take away pizza from the Italian or a take away at any of the others if you needed to. There was a good supermarket on site which did sandwiches, chicken and chips and cakes for lunch. It had a wide selection of groceries for any other cooking you wanted to do. This was an extremely easy holiday to have. We did not go anywhere else on the island as we can use it as our excuse to definitely go back to Antigua very soon."

"

Just as described. 4 mins walk from the beach. Don't pay for the sun-loungers though - you don't need to. If you're into SCUBA, Jolly Dive is just around the corner too, with its excellent host Paul Roos. Maybe avoid the Casino though - especially avoid their 'Rainbow Game', which will apparently rip you off and has already been banned and re-started about 3 times. You can hire a golf kart to get around the resort, although the shopping centre is only 10 mins walk from this villa (229B). Would recommend hiring a car too for a few days to see some of the rest of the island. On a clear day you'll see Montserrat 30 miles away off the beach, and the big grey stripe of volcanic ash. The HBK Villa rental centre in the centre of the resort will look after you. Don't forget you need US $20 each to leave the island, and your bags will all be hand-searched on the flight home, so check in early!

"Thanks Lee for a wonderful week in the sun! Your assistance beforehand was much appreciated The villa is exactly as described, beautifully furnished and well equipped. Magical location with beautiful sunsets enjoyed from Castaways (but we thinks the 200m to the beach is as the crow flies :) ) Could have done with some sharper knives and a broom which didn't fall apart - but with all those restaurants on site - and the maid service - we didn't need them! Would definitely come again"

"This was our 3rd visit, in 3 years, to Antigua. Our 1st stay, in 2004, was 2 weeks in Dickinson Bay & this quickly convinced us that we should return. Last year (June), following a disastrous 1st week in the Royal Antiguan Hotel (near St Johns), we moved into a villa in Jolly Harbour for our 2nd week, and found that this really met all our requirements. I was therefore very pleased to find this property, during an internet search, for our main holiday this year (13 to 27-April). The property was well-equiped & well maintained- the most appreciated additions would, I think, be an electric kettle & a hifi- as the TV channels available in Antigua are largely US and, frankly, a waste of space. This propery is well situated for the excellent beach (5 minutes walk), and St Johns, Shirley Heights, & other highlights, are within easy reach. A "Jeep" proved invaluable, even though I am no 4x4 fan, as regular rental cars are in poor condition, and the roads have a "rustic charm". The supermarket near the villa can supply most provisions and we soon made reacquaintance (it was almost as if we had never been back to England) with regulars & staff at The Dogwatch Tavern, one of our favourite places in the world. Darrius, who now manages the bar, and Claudine in the restaurant, are both stars. We can certainly recommend this property to people looking for a holiday where they can truly relax, and (I imagine) we'll be returning before too long!"

"Further to my last review of Jolly Harbour Villas in general, I would say that this villa exceeded our expectations! Luxuriously furnished, in very comfortable surroundings. VERY close to the lovely almost deserted beach (and Castaways! ;-) ), on the South finger, which is the prettier end. Villa was kept clean with maid service every other day - clean sheets, towels etc. This is our piece of heaven on earth and would definitely go again!"

"This was a very well furnished villa with good quality equipment and very clean. It was a pleasure staying there and we would love to return soon. The management company was also brilliant- very helpful and they even allowed us use of another villa for 3 hours before our flight because of our baby. The owner was always helpful and provided all the requested extras( cot etc) with no problems! We had a wonderful 2 weeks ."

"Ideal location, 5 mins walk to beach & 10 mins to restaurants & shops. Very spacious for 2 people. Large downstairs patio & upstairs veranda, in shade for most of the day, but the weather was so hot this was not a problem. We did not pay for air-conditioning, the ceiling fans were adequate as there was a breeze most of the time. Beautiful, quiet, white sandy beach, free sun loungers for Jolly Harbour Villa residents. Our only problem was the local ATMs did not accept UK debit cards, we had to go to St. Johns for cash. 15 mins on local bus, cost about £1! All the local places accepted credit cards. "

Owner reply: :
TIPS FOR FUTURE GUESTS:
As a suggestion there is a bank within Jolly Harbour whereby you can draw money over the counter from your UK account. You will need your debit card + passport ID to enable you to do this.

"I have not stayed at this property yet but have just booked to go in Feb next year. I have stayed at Jolly Harbour before and WOW its a fab place. Dress up or dress down, there is something for everyone's tastes. The restaurants are fab! Wasnt too keen on the casino. When we were there in Feb 2004 - they were just about to start building the new supermarket. The previous comments had it right on the button - lovely secluded beaches especially the north finger! Make sure you take plenty of water with you though as there is nowhere to buy any on Nth finger beach! Its like being stranded on a desert island! Though the free bus comes around often. It's my peice of heaven on earth and if this property is as good as it seems, I will be back year after year! Antigua is safe to get about in (I have been to Jamaica - say no more!), but I gues its like any other country - you dont put yourself up for hassle. By the way, the question was asked if I would recommend, I said yes, but think I would rather keep my 'treasure' to myself. Happy reading! PS: By the way - hope they have sacked the guy who does the Karaoke! hahahahha"

"Major items were missing DVD and Video especially as we had children and they had been listed, no maid service at all! No welcome meeting or any other communication from on site staff. In all the villa was ok but the description given on the web site is not accurate."

Owner reply: :
The issue with the DVD/Video was due to an untimely power surge on a previous guests stay. As a result the TV/DVD/Video combi needed to be repaired and we could only replace the TV at such short notice resulting in obvious dissapointment for all parties. Maid service is available as an optional extra which we have since made clearer on our description. Unfortunately their are no 'welcome meetings' for private renters at Jolly Harbour although there is an emergency point of contact at reception.

We have communicated with our guests since their stay and they have posted this reply:

The owner of the villa has explained the reason for the DVD and video misssing from the apartment. We have to say that the villa itself was of a very high standard and our stay was most enjoyable. The DVD and video player would have been very useful as we had 2 days of rain and with 2 children we could have done with them!

"I would recommend Jolly Harbour. The villas are fantastic, backed on to a marina with sea views and if you are a big balcony/patio fan as we are, then it is ideal for chilling out in the evening with a few drinks!!!Prompt shuttle service that will taxi you round the whole resort for free! Absolutely flabbergasted by the beaches North & South, not just in beauty but by the fact it was so quiet. Shuttled to the less popular North Beach - 30 degress in the mid day heat and we were the only people on it!!! Definately worth going out with friends or family if your that way inclined."
