"Mr. Castaldo goes out of his way to make your stay comfortable. Not only did the home exceed my expectations but the extras did as well, no other place that i've stayed at has ever provided cell phones, book guides, or typical local goodies to enjoy. The standard of living surpasses luxury and comfort. I'm very glad to have found it."

Owner reply: :
Guillermo,

thank you for your very kind words. my family and I look forward to accommodating you and your family anytime at Villetta Mimma Vittoria in the years to come.

2bed/2bath house in Gioia Tauro, Calabria

When: 4/30/2005, 7 days

Location:
This home was located in central Gioia Tauro. It was beyond reproach, in every manor.

Nearby Amenities:
Anything you needed to make your trip enjoyable was within 50 meters, food shopping etc.

The House/Apartment:
The villetta is in awesome shape with all the things that make you feel as if you were in your own home.

Garden:
No garden but less than 50 meters there is a park with a great view of the lower city and the sea.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas:
Everything was perfect and modern.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms:
Nothing in this home is less then perfect.

Kitchen:
Everything was perfect and we had a great time in our cooking class there.

Problems or Bonuses:
The home itself was a very pleasant surprise.

Agency and Representatives (and price):
Michael's family was great, and spoke just enough English, but not so much that you felt you were still at home.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?:
Most defiantly! This is the hidden jewel of Italy, unlike most other areas you are not fighting with the crowds. We were the only Americans in town. Which allows one to see what the Italian life is really like.

Things to do in this area:
We had a fantastic, magical stay at Villeta Mimma Vittoria in May of 2005! The town and people were delightful and the weather was ideal. Our entire stay in Southern Italy was a trip we won't soon forget. Gioia Tauro is a great little town that really allows you to immerse yourself in local culture and food. Our cooking lesson was very fun and we've been making canneloni here in Texas for our friends and family ever since. We especially enjoyed neighboring Tropea, Palmi and Scilla as well. Messina was breathtaking and a must see.

2bed/2bath house in Gioia Tauro, Calabria

When: June 2005, 4 weeks

Location:
In the small town of Gioia Tauro. Very nice location. We loved the city and areas we visited.

Nearby Amenities:
Conveniently located and within walking distance to markets, shopping, restaurants and train station.

The House/Apartment:
Very modern, comfortable and extremely clean and well kept. Two bedrooms and one full bath up, living and dining area on first floor next to a fully equipped and modern kitchen, bath down.

Garden:
No pool but outside patio area.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas:
Furniture like new, comfortable, plenty of room, weekly maid service.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms:
Very comfortable and large bedrooms, lots of storage. Wait until you see the bathroom! Glass counters and bowls, large shower with "rain" shower head. First floor bath most convenient.

Kitchen:
Extremely well equipped. We enjoyed cooking almost all of our meals here since one of the markets was just around the corner.

Problems or Bonuses:
The owner went above and beyond to acquaint us with the villetta, the city and surrounding areas. My husband and I walked all over Gioia Tauro, and to the train station from where we took and enjoyed day trips to beautiful surrounding areas.

Agency and Representatives (and price):
Rented from the owner who was most helpful. He speaks English as does his "keyholder" in Gioia Tauro who also was most helpful.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?:
Highly recommend this location to anyone wanting a total Italian experience. The people were kind, friendly and helpful. We had fun communicating using our limited Italian and they their limited English.

Things to do in this area:
Anthony's Restaurant is a beautiful and special place. Wonderful food and within walking distance of the villetta. In addition to Gioia Tauro and the seaport we especially enjoyed Reggio Calabria, Tropea, Scilla, Messina and Tauromina, Sicily. Beautiful spots and views.

The owner and 'keyholder' went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Extremely well-appointed.....new furniture, beautiful bathrooms, luxurious linens and towels, spacious bedrooms (the most comfortable mattresses), gourmet kitchen. I loved the small balcony off the master bedroom and the washing machine was a bonus. The house is very spacious and a treat to come home to after a long day exploring or a day on the beach. Parking on the street was never a problem and we walked everywhere once we got home to the house. I would go back in a minute.

You arrive at the door of the villa and step from a typical Italian town into a contemporary New York loft. Every amenity you could possibly require to make your stay an enjoyable experience is provided, down to the fabulous bathroom. After a busy day exploring Southern Italy the house is a welcome Spa like retreat. The owners treat you like a valued family friend and make sure your stay is "5 star".

When you walk into the house, it's as though you walked into a page from "Architectural Digest." It is beautiful!

Last summer, I talked 3 beach friends into going to Gioia Tauro in April 2004. One friend had relatives in Sicily and so we made plans to visit them. Michael you did a wonderful job with all the information you sent us. Francesco met us at the airport as planned and drove us to your villa. Pietro met us with the keys and explained everything about the house. We had a perfect week. We even took the beach chairs to the town beach. We never rented a car and we were able to travel everywhere with the excellent train system in town. I hope to go back and bring my family to Gioia Tauro.

The villa is all that you said it would be and exactly as shown in your website. Pietro was wonderful and felt like one of the family after our trip to Plati, Sicily, Gerace, the tour of the olive oil factory, and meeting his wife and baby. He was so helpful...of course Dom and Frankie speaking the language did help a lot. We tried to teach Pietro some more English...

Pina made us such a fabulous meal we wanted to bring her home with us. Her son was such a great helper and such a nice young man... We all had a wonderful evening. We also met your uncle Giuseppe and bought several lovely pieces in his [Gift] shop in the Galleria. Everyone in Gioia Tauro couldn't have been more helpful and I am sure we left an impression in this town. I don't think too many American's have been there. Cheers for now,

All I have to say is WOW. For my first trip to Italy this was quite an experience. The owner was very helpful actually more then that. Every detail was addressed. From the moment we stepped off the train we were met by the keyholder, a relative of the owner. Through out the week different family members would drop by just to see how we were. The people of Gioia Tauro were warm, friendly, and very interesting to talk to if we could manage. The villetta was very tastefully decorated and there were a lot of nice extras. The rain shower, fully functional kitchen, and lots of windows and sky lights. We toured other cities while in Calabria and by the end of the week when we would arrive back in Gioia Tauro it felt like home. It feels like the "real" Italian destination. Rome and Venice were nice, but I'd go back to Gioia Tauro in a heart beat. Thank you for a lovely trip.

…“I stayed at your villa with Phuong, Jane and Linh... (Sandy could not make it so we grabbed another cousin ;) ) The home was impressive and everything was as promised. We had a wonderful and relaxing trip. We spent a few nights at Mario's Pizzeria drinking the house wine and of course eating pizza and we also ordered the fresh shrimp. Every day we walked down to the Mini-bar and ordered cappuccinos. The slower pace of life was quite refreshing and I believe, all of us girls, enjoyed the change. Jane fell in love with Italy, especially the beaches. Pietro and Marcello were kind enough to give us a ride back to the airport at 4AM. Marcello was a joy. He was extremely helpful and even offered to show us his hometown of Palmi... We plan to visit again soon. I am excited to hear that you have another property that will soon be available for rent. I am looking forward to seeing the pictures. Take care and thank you again for a great trip”

…“We so enjoyed the lovely and comfortable villetta! It met all our expectations. Gioia Tauro was convenient to many interesting side trips. We appreciated the convenient market ( hi to Rocco) and the closeness of the beach. Please thank Pietro for his patience with us. He was most helpful.

Mario appreciated the opportunity to converse in Italian. And of course having Pina prepare supper was a delight! Please tell her how much we enjoyed sharing that time with her and Vincenzo. Lots of stories about Uncle Mike!! … Calabria is truly an intriguing region with many beautiful faces: the spectacular sunsets off the violet coast were the best! At these times, we forgot all about her imperfections. Our three weeks in Italy were truly an adventure!”..."
