"We have just returned from a peaceful and relaxing Easter holiday at Villa Jazmin. The villa is set in a beautiful location, fairly remote but with next door neighbours and only 10 mins drive from the nearest town for supermarkets etc (hypermarket 15 mins drive). The description of the villa in the advert was detailed and accurate (link to owners website was useful as this site had additional photos & information). The villa was comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. We barbecued most nights during our stay on the excellent gas barbecue and the children loved the pool even though it was a bit chilly at that time of year. The owner provided excellent directions to the villa (we were driving from Madrid) and was easy to contact with questions regarding the villa prior to our visit. I would definitely recommend a stay at this property."

"Charming Villa lost in the Spanish wilderness. Few nags, such as the neighbours barking dogs at night or the fact that the hot waters for the showers come and goes has it please where easily compensated by all things this Villa has to offer being so well equipped, not forgetting all the cares of the landlords to make your stay a memorable one with plenty locals information and maps to read, restaurants and local attraction recommendations as well as a lovely welcome basket The interior of the villa was clean, fresh and spacious enough to fit the 6 of us. (3 adults couples) Thanks to Ryan air cancelling our original flight I has to amend our original arrival time and departure from the Villa but the landlord was very accommodating and replied quickly to my many emails, this again shows great cares. I will recommend this villa to anyone, small family or group of friends that wish to get away for few days and enjoy the Spanish way of life. "

"We rented Villa Jazmin in October 2008. The property was well described both by RentalSystems and, in great detail, on its own website, which is also full of information about the area and places to visit. Unfortunately the pool was not available during our stay, having just undergone renovation and not having been refilled due to the irregular water supply to the villa. There were a few things we didn’t like. A bad smell suggested poor septic tank function. And there were many flies. The showers worked only erratically. The state of the road is poor, which makes popping out for a drink or a coffee a bit of an effort. Most of the houses in the hamlet seem to have dogs and most of the dogs seem to bark day and night. Lliria, the nearest town some 10 km away, is uninspiring. But from Lliria you can get the metro to Valencia, which is wonderful (about 45 minutes on the train). We didn’t like the countryside to the south of the hamlet, but the hills to the north and west were beautiful and the short walks we took were pleasant. Trips to the coast were enjoyable too. The documentation provided in the house was excellent and detailed directions to attractions were especially useful. The villa was well equipped, with washing machine, dishwasher, ample good crockery and cooking equipment and great television/DVD. A delightful and delicious touch was a gift of marmalade made from the villa’s own fruit. And we were invited to help ourselves to ripe lemons from the tree. They really enhanced the gin and tonic!"

Owner reply: :
I should point out that the "irregular" water supply is not a problem for showers, washing, etc., since the water is held in a large storage tank under the house, which holds enough water for almost 2 weeks. Filling the pool requires the co-operation of the local pumping station however, and can only be done once per week. On this occassion, the water pressure was lower than usual, and so the pool was only 3/4 filled.
The septic tank is serviced regularly, and we had not noticed any problems with when we were renovating the pool the previous week. Our caretaker also inspected it after our guests had left, and found no problem - its possible that the smell was actually coming from fertiliser on fields nearby.
Flies can be a problem when the weather is still and humid - we are planning to buy Basil plants to put around the terrace, which are supposed to help.
The showers do take a bit of experimentation - unfortunately, because our tap water is stored under the house, and pumped on demand, the water pressure is not constant, and this doesnt help.
Were pleased that you enjoyed the Marmalade!

"Fantastic stay at this villa, the kitchen is equipped to an excellent standard. The front patio was used every evening for BBQ. Swimming pool very clean and water wonderful. Very peaceful location but still only half an hour drive to the heart of Valencia. The only thing that let this down was the cleaning. We were left one bath towel and one hand towel to last us all week!! + no change of linen which is not acceptable especially in the middle of August. The representative of the villa met us on arrival and did not contact us again until the last night of our holiday."

Owner reply: :
Pleased that you enjoyed the stay, but quite surprised at the comments.
We dont advertise the Villa as a "serviced" property, so Im not sure why a change of Towels and Linen was expected - there is a washing machine for guests use, and in August towels and linen will dry within an hour of being put on the line. We do provide a change of towels and linen for longer stays, for a small additional fee, but this is the first time anyone has wanted them for a 1-week stay.
Likewise, not sure why they expected our caretakers to contact them during the stay - many people would regard this as intrusive.

"The facilities at this property were excellent. The kids loved the game cube and sky tv! It is a ten minute drive to get to the main road, so we did feel like we did quite alot of driving in the week. There is alot to do in the area with some lovely beaches."

"on arrival we were told by the cleaners that the pool was cloudy and not to use it until the next day...it was still cloudy 4 days later after several visits from family members of the villa owner to try and rectify we had a seven days stay and a pool for 3 days in 40 degree weather very dissapointed..as the pool problem should have been sorted before we arrived...as it was known to the cleaners and family that it had been cloudy and that the pump wasnt working correctly several days before we arrived"

Owner reply: :
It simply isnt possible to check a pool every single day. Our caretakers live some distance away from the Villa, and only visit once per week unless there is a changeover.
On the morning that our guests arrived they discovered that the pool was very cloudy, despite having added algicide the previous week (when it was still almost clear). Anyone who has an outdoor pool will tell you that sometimes they will cloud up for no apparent reason. More often than not, the problem is algae, but not always.
Our family did their best to fix the problem as quickly as possible, and even offered them use of their own pool, but after 3 days we were told that our guests wanted to be left alone. The pool was apparently clear by the following day - all it really needed was patience. There was never any problem with the pool pump.

We deeply regret that the pool was not as it should have been, but it was never unsafe to swim in, and we did our best to fix the problem as soon as we were aware of it. We also sent them an email, (long before they left the above comment), offering them a 50% discount on any future stay, as recompense for the inconvenience.

"Villa Jazmin was exactly as described and was very well equipped and good value for money. The owner, Neil provided excellent instructions from the airport and a good level of communication. We would go again, but one week is enough for a fairly remote location"

"The property was perfect - exactly as described. The decor and furnishings were beautiful and facilities excellent (particularly the pool - no chlorine eyes with the salty water). The remote location was exactly what we were after with great surrounding area to visit for day trips. The agent that met us was friendly and full of good advice on the villa and region as a whole. I would have loved to stay longer and would definately like to go back for seconds! This property was the least expensive property we could find for the dates we wanted - however I dont believe I could have found a better villa for double the money!"

"A well equiped Villa, offering a good base from which to explore the local area. Very peaceful and quiet location. The pool was looking rather tired and in need of cosmetic repair, but it still provided relief from the hot sun. Over all a good holiday"

Owner reply: :
Although the entire pool was repainted less than 18 months ago, the paint has repeatedly flaked off. Were now (Sept 07) completely renovating the pool, by retiling the floor and walls with mosaic tiles, which will put an end to the flaking paint forever!
The pool will be out of use over the winter while this work continues, but will be back in use by around Easter 2008.

updat e: The Pool has now been completely renovated, with Mosaic tiles - see our Photos.

"if your looking for a quiet location villa jasmin is ideal, local town has bars ,shops and supermarkets which offer good value for money but not much else if you want to go sight seeing you will need to travel into valencia which is beautiful, the villa was ideal for our party of 4,its clean, nice decoration and the living room is spacious,it had everything we needed.you can't drink the tap water but large bottles of water are very cheap from the supermarket so this wasn't a problem for us.it's exellent for a weeks relaxation but 2weeks for a family might be a bit too long as it is a quiet location and a hire car is a must.if you do have any problems help is only a phone call away and the service is exellent(thanks karen).i would definatley use villa jasmin in the future as it offers exellent value for money."

"A superb get-away for rest and relaxation - very Spanish, rural and quiet. One of the best week's holidays I have had, totally chilled. Extremely helpful caretaker with excellent local knowledge. Would definately recommend and hope to visit again soon."

"The property itself was lovely, newly furnished and modern and fully air-conditioned. The pool was OK, but not in a good position, due to it's location you weren't able to sit and watch the children swim or sunbathe next to it. The area surrounding the villa was run down and remote so 2 weeks there was definately too long. A week would have been enough. If your prepared to use the villa as a base and travel each day then it's good value for money, otherwise I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. "

Owner reply: :
I think the local community would object to calling the area "run down" - perhaps these visitors had never experienced Rural Spain before.

We do advertise the villa as being "quiet and peaceful", and 9Km from the nearest shops, bars, and restaurants, so to expect not to have to travel for sightseeing is perhaps a touch unrealistic.

Unfortunately, there's little that can be done about the location of the pool - we do try to make clear from the website that the swimming pool is seperate to the sunbathing area.

We're glad that you liked the villa itself - it's a shame that these other factors, which are largely beyond our control, mean that you rated the overall holiday poorly.

"As is fairly typical for a property in the country the water supply was a bit "iffy". You have to let the water run for a good few minutes in the bathrooms to get it hot. Something we found out after 3 days and some cold showers. Renters definitely need a car. The supply of DVDs and videos as well as games was excellent, as was the satellite TV. The pool and garden etc was great. All in all a nice place to stay."

Owner reply: :
We are arranging for a local plumber to check our water system, and let us know what, if anything, can be done to improve the situation.
There are two factors - the water pressure, and the distance from the boiler to the bathroom. There's not much we can do immediately about the distance (relocating the boiler would be a big task) but we hope that the plumber can tell us whether we need a stronger pump, or if the current pump simply needs adjusting or servicing, in order to improve the water pressure.

We hope to have improved the situation within the next month.

Update: We replaced the pump in July, and now have much better water pressure throughout the house. We've also installed an electronic descaler, which will hopefully prevent limescale problems too.
