"It was a home from home. Beautiful, clean everything that we hoped for! Said and Amina are real gems and we had a fantastic, relaxing time there."

"We (two adults and two teenagers) loved both the flat, Chez Rebecca, and the town of Essaouira where weve just spent 10 days. the flat was beautiful - the decor really tasteful and very well equipped with TV and DVD, music and a few books. The girls even had a game of bilingual boggle with French friends they made from one of the downstairs flats. The location was great - near the vegetable market, so every morning we got oranges to squeeze and bread and cakes and had breakfast on the terrace. The kitchen is lovely and really well equipped too. In july the only snag is the wind which blows sand everywhere so we didnt use the top terrace as much as we would have liked but still managed one barbecue and a fair amount of sunbathing there as well as taking in a few gorgeous sunsets. Chez Rebecca is an ideal quiet retreat in a pretty laid back town. The info booklets were great - we tried out a few of the recommended restaurants listed and werent disappointed. We only saw Said a few times, briefly, but he was friendly and helpful. Amina, the cleaner, was lovely. Our only gripe was Hamachar, the cat, who peed in one of the bedrooms all over some clothes! We were careful to lock him out when we werent around but he still managed it and getting rid of the smell took a few days! Otherwise, though, an excellent stay. Recommended!"

Owner reply: :
I must apologise for the cats behaviour - this is most unlike him. There is a stray (an un-neutered tom) who looks a bit like Hamachar and sometimes tries to get into the apartment and mark out a territory. It is possible that it may have been him. We do try to keep a collar on Hamachar so that guests can tell them apart but the local children keep stealing them!

"I booked Chez Rebecca for a little winter treat from the gloomy british weather and it was just perfect. Said met us from the bus stop and guided us through the narrow streets of the media adorned with beautiful colours and history. We climbed the steps inside the house then arrived at the front door. Inside was simply stunning from the rounded white-washed walls to the corner fire place, the hammam-style bathroom and the exotic blues and yellows of the furniture. Everything worked, was comfortable and even the cat Hamchar was very friendly (we do worry about him jumping along the walls!!) The lower terrace was a delight in the hot afternoon sun and the upper terrace was a perfect sun trap in the morning overlooking the rooftops, hearing the mosque calls and spotting the waves rolling in on the beach. I hope to return one day, Inshallah. Thanks for making it such a beautiful few days."

"We enjoyed our week in Essarouira immensely. All correspondence with the owner before our arrival was professional and very thorough! Said (the property "manager") was absolutely lovely and he could not have been nicer or more helpful. Kabor (the house maintenance man) lit a lovely fire for us every night and we watched DVDs (bought for 1 euro each - Said will tell you where to get them) in front of the roaring fire. Amina the cleaning lady was also lovely and she did a great job at keeping the apartment clean and tidy. She also prepared a lovely meal of tagine & couscous for our first night, since we arrived quite late. We miss all 3 of them and I can honestly say that it was their interaction with us that left such fond & lasting memories of the place. Essaouiras greatest asset is its people. The house Cat Hamchar became "ours" for the week and loved to watch DVDs with us too. (I have an allergy to cats, but Hamchar did not pose a problem for me - he doesnt live in the house full-time and is happy to go out if you ask him nicely). :) The property is very well located, right in the centre of the Medina. The only criticism I have echoes that of the previous reviewer - the bathroom needs some type of ventilation. But, this is Morocco and the house is in authentic Moroccan style. A bottle of thick Domestos should help to ease the problem - alas I could not find anything that resembled it in the shops."

"The property was a great base to explore the town and the private sun terrace was a great escape for a day away from it all. Our contact with the owners prior to our arrival and the information folder in the property was so useful and informative and we referred to the folder on a daily basis. Our cleaner Amina was so friendly and did a fantastic job of keeping the place clean. The only critisicm was the bathroom did sometime smell a little of sewage but this can be part of life in Essaouira and was in no way a reflection of the cleanlines of the property, just a reflection of how undeveloped parts of Moroco can be, which is also part of Essaouiras charm. I would definately recommend Chez Rebecca to anyone looking for a property in Essaouira and would like to thank the owners for a great stay."

"the apartment was clean and had everything you could need. Security was good and the terrace lovely. It is full of character. The telly was an advantage...for some. Dont rely on Wifi working. The meals you could buy in from a menu in the detailed info. book at the appt. were lovely but need 3 hours notice, so if you want one on your first night (possibly a good idea if you have had a long journey with kids) then opt for this. We had chicken Tangine, my kids polished off most of it before I got a look in! Turn left out of the appt to the square for a restaurant -La Cantina-it doesnt do Moroccan but good burgers and smoothies...again useful for kids. By the way, it gets cool in the evenings-take a light jumper!"

"We had a wonderful stay in Chez Rebecca. Comfortable, with kitchen, nice Essaourian style. After the rush in Fez and Marrakech it was a great place to relax, we listened to the CDs a lot, I recommend Tinariwen - Amassakoul!!! We sunbathed on the roof terrace a lot and the small terrace is perfect for the morning coffee. Thanks a lot."

"Personal feedback from a renter, 8 April 2008

We did so enjoy our stay in your lovely apartment. So relaxing and peaceful. To fall asleep to the sound of waves was wonderful. Mr Bizbiz was most helpful and organised a grand day out in the countryside for us. The 'cleaning lady' – I never did learn her name – was cheerful and friendly. All in all the visit was a great success – if only it was nearer!!

"The approach was a little off putting, up a very smelly lane (they were unblocking the drains at the time!! ) with old ladies begging. A very steep climb to apartment. But once there we were delighted with the flat. very comfortable bed, good living space . Bright and clean. Lovely view from top terrace of town and sea. Only real complaint was the kitchen. We did make our own breakfast and often lunch in the flat. The crockery and cutlery was clean and good but saucepans and Tagine were not. they looked as if they hadn't been used for some time. The coffee filtre ( an essential thing for us) was dangerously cracked. The lady who came to clean was very nice and friendly . She swept, dusted, and washed the windows but perhaps had not been told to check kitchen cupboards A lovely holiday thank you"

Owner reply: :
We are sorry that the kitchen equipment did not live up to expectations. Unfortunately damage is not always reported so we did not know the cafetiere or tajine was broken and we are sure there was a full set of saucepeans when were there in January! We have now replaced everything that was damaged or missing and will do our best to ensure that it is kept as clean as possible in future.

"Chez Rebecca is a great little apartment. The close proximity to the food souks makes cooking for yourself from the Chez Rebecca recipe book a breeze! Thanks for a great stay""

"If you want a real Moroccan experience away from anonymous Western hotels then this is the place to stay. High up in a house in a tiny alleyway in the traffic-free medina of Essaouira this apartment is a peaceful haven in the hub0-bib and constant fascination of the souls and market-places. In the summer this town is a tad windy - but that does keep the temperature down to a bearable 28degrees or so - and the private balcony is high-walled to keep the wind out. We didn't have to worry about the safety of our two-year old on the prvate terrace or inside, and my fifteen-year old had plenty to do to keep him occupied in the town. Fresh food is available yards away in the main street and the kitchen is well-equipped. Alternatively you can eat out - there is plenty of choice. The maid, guardian and manager were excellent. Recommended"

"From Trip Advisor 10 Oct 2006

We had a lovely stay in the beautiful terrace apartment (there are 3 altogether). The facilities and services are fab...food you can order in at any time; a lovely guardian; friendly staff. We enjoyed a BBQ on the high terrace with some of the other guests from the other apartments in the house and had a great time. It felt as comfortable as being at home; there was cd player(with some cds) satellite tv..All in all, great value and i would definately return. Thanks Rebecca for such a lovely holiday.

What did you like best about the accommodation? Stylish apartment with privacy but also services

Any tips/secrets for future travellers? Have a bottle of wine on the terrace at sunset"

"Beautiful place to stay with the most perfect terrace view on the three beaches of essaouira and the old town, the services were excellent , and the food that you can order in perfect, if you are lucky enough you will meet the owner , a beautiful girl who always welcomes you with her famous dog called gypsy (who is happy enough to go for a walk with you if you like!), the terrace is a very good atmosphere because you can meet some very cool people for a drink and bbq every evening. We will definately return! regards to Abdelatif, the extremely helpful house manager, kabor the amazing guardian, saadiya the cleaner and thanks rebecca for such a lovely place to have our holidays in."
