We arrived in Essaouira comming from Marrakesch after dark at 9.00 pm. We booked a taxi via Said and on lookingback we were very happy we did. Arriving at the airport the moneytellers were out of order, there was a enormous queue at the moneychangers. The driver who had been waiting for us said we could pay him in euros. He phoned Said for us to ask for a meal to be prepared at our arrival. We would never have found the house on our own. Said helped us with everything, bought drinking water for us, since we didnt have any mads, and a lovely meal was waiting for us. What a bliss after a long journey. Fatima is a real pearl. The terras is lovely, it would have even be nicer if it would be cleaned every day. I think that we got value for money. The only negative thing is that we learnt from the Lonely Planet that we were spot on in the middle of the only bad part of town, after dark drugs and alcohol. Although we never felt that we were in any danger coming home after dark, theres a lot of noisy drunks in the street singing as if they were standing next to your bed.
Essaouira is a lovely place full of friendly people, and very pleasant temperatures.
A long mirror would be an asset.
