"7ᆤ September 2009

We have just returned from a holiday at the delightful Villa Diva. It was a perfect base for discovering this so far unspoilt part of Turkey, as well as being really attractive, clean and comfortable - and providing everything we needed, including a large array of DVDs to entertain us on our two rainy days! The Datca Peninsula lived up to all our expectations it was fun driving through spectacular scenery to find quiet little bays and get really off the beaten track. Datca town was lovely and didn't feel too touristy - the large market on Saturday was a particularly friendly and colourful experience. Other highlights? Cooling off in the lovely pool and our boat trip with Captain Aydin, a totally pleasurable experience.

"This is a lovely place to stay. Datca can be hot in mid-summer, but this house is on the crest of the hill so it gets that lovely Datca breeze all day long. The house is on the estate owned by the Marphe Hotel, so you can use the facilities down there, including the lovely big pool. The Marphe staff are genuinely helpful and pleasant. Theres a smaller pool nearer the house itself, more private, and with a nice view. The gardens among the villas are also very pleasant. The house could hardly be nicer. Its a great size for 4 people, or 5/6 if they stay in the lounge. It is kept extremely clean and well equipped, and there are lots of useful things around which make it feel homely. Some places, weve found, have small kitchens, but this one is plenty big enough to cook for a family. Just a few minutes drive from the Migros supermarket, or about a half-hour walk to Datca town. Highly recommended."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and thought the Villa and the whole complex were very good. Our stay was at the end of August and into September and no-one else was staying in the villas so we had the whole complex to ourselves! (we didnt see anyone apart from the gardener who was constantly watering and the kittens who seemed to take up residence on our patio!) We enjoyed exploring the Datca Peninsular and visited most of the accessible beaches. Its a shame that we couldnt find a proper map of the area but it was too hot to do much walking anyway. It was great to find a holiday destination away from other English people - most other holiday makers were Turkish which adds to the Turkish Experience. The Villa was as described and was well equipped with plenty of room for 5 adults. (I had packed mosquito burners but there was one in each room already and in fact we didnt have an insect problem at that time of year) Everywhere was clean and well maintained and it was a joy to skip down the steps for a swim in the pool prior to going out for the day. Hoever with all the steps it wouldnt be suitable for disabled people or very young children."

"Excellent villa - everything we needed & more. A real home from home especially with a 5 month old baby. Very peaceful & 2 lovely pools. Villa is approx 20 mins walk from Datca centre so a car would be useful. Only downside is the villa is on a very steep hill. "

"We enjoyed our stay in Villa Diva. Although it was already July, most of the other villas were empty. so the swimmingpool was totally ours! The villa is well equiped and comfortable. Datca village has still an authentic atmosphere and the Datca peninsula is beautiful."

"The property was extremely attractive and superbly well equipped with everything you could possibly think of. The owners were very generous in leaving many items of foodstuffs, beach equipment etc. and the information pack in the villa was very detailed. I would heartily recommend this to my friends and, indeed, have already done so. Thank you"

"The owner provided all accurate information needed to access the property The house was clean, pleasant, comfortable and functional No technical problems to deplore Collecting the key at the Marple hotel was not straightforward as people at reception was not informed and did not speak English. Finally, a call to the right person made it simple. Recommendations for the check-out would be useful. "

"A lovely well equipped villa with great pool. We also enjoyed being able to use Marphe hotel pool. All staff very friendly. Datcha is as yet unspoiled by too many tourists and has some wonderful sandy beaches not at all crowded which is great for the middle of August! We took the owners advice and stopped at a little restaurant by the river on the way back to Dalaman which was very picturesque with good food. Be sure to get details as it was well worth the stop. We all loved Villa Diva and Datcha and hopefully will be booking again next year"

"" Villa Diva was perfect - beautifully furnished and with all mod cons - even children's dvds! Most of our time was spent by the pool, by the sea or in the garden by the villa reading. Our trips in to Datca were great - lots of lovely places to eat and drink, great market and a beautiful harbour. Everyone is very friendly, especially to kids - ruffling their hair or pinching their cheeks as they passed by! Most days by the pool were spent at the hotel over the road; as you had said, that's where the children were and the pool itself was lovely. Mike ate in the cafe quite a few times - the food was OK, reasonably priced considering that they have a pretty captive market. All the people to do with the hotel were lovely; friendly etc. It was really good to know that if there was a problem, they were there to sort it out (we ran out of gas and they were round within an hour or thereabouts).

We'll be back, but next time we will make sure that we do the drive from the airport in daylight - what we thought was pretty scary at 2.00 am turns out to be one of the most beautiful drives as you arrive in Datca.”

"“We enjoyed our holiday at Villa Diva even though it was completely out
of season when we went in April. The bonus was the wildflowers which
were at every road verge, hedgerow or field, and looked like films from
the 1950s before intensive farming. The orange orchards were in full
bloom, filling the car on our return to the airport with such heavenly
scent that the contrast with our return to London could not have been
more stark.

The people in Datca were warm and friendly, with especial mention to
'captain' Aydin, who not only took us out on his boat and cooked a
marvellous lunch, but also spent a few hours with us in the café and on
the boat chatting and sharing a coffee.

The Villa is very comfortable with everything you will need for your
holiday, cool bedrooms and bathrooms and every gadget, piece of cutlery
and item of bedding you would have at home, unlike some holiday lets we
have visited. The style of the house is modern, but is in keeping with
the local building style. It’s good that there are only a few houses
together, but the hotel is across the road so that if you need any
assistance there is somebody on hand.

The area around Datca is still unspoilt enough to feel off the beaten
track, but the people in restaurants are used to providing a bit of
translation so that it does not feel too daunting to go in and order
dinner. I would recommend it.”

""The villa itself was a lovely place – we helped ourselves to the barbecue, lounged around the swimming pool and felt at home, even though we were only there for a week. Walking round Datça was great – people would have a chat to us, help out and genuinely give us the time of day, whether we were in a shop, a bar or just shopping around for food. " Andy and Lianne, July 2006

"Villa Diva was a total tonic. The mix of ethnic traditional with classy modern minimal creates a lovely environment. It’s a small development with an exclusive feel. Great pool for lounging around with a couple of Turkey’s finest beers.

We spent our days beaching and driving around the peninsula in an open topped jeep. Great way to see the beautiful mountains covered with almond and pine trees. Highlight was our day out on Captain Aydin’s boat, a small launch with bags of character. We cruised around the coves, snorkelling in the crystal clear sea and eating fresh fish that the captain caught en route.

Datca is a really cool little place. Plenty of choice of places to eat from top of the range to home cooked Turkish. Very few Brits there on the whole as it’s mostly a Turkish resort. In the harbour you’ll find a few more Europeans docking their big fat yachts for the night and the whole vibe is like a small intimate Cannes. Old Datca just a few kilometres away is a fabulous higgledy piggledy stone village for a pleasant stroll. We want to go back in spring next time to see the hillsides covered in the almond blossom."
