"A very comfortable house in a wonderful location with stunning views of sunrise and sunset from the bedrooms. The house set in a dramatic spot with views over the mountains, moorland and the sea. The house is very cosy and warm with a great coal fire, and is spacious for its size. There is lots to explore by foot from the house and beautiful drives to beaches and other interesting sites such as the standing stones close by. An excellent place to get away from it all and enjoy the tranquility of the Hebrides."

"The cottage was a home away from home, and Ann provided a complete kitchen, homely touches including a hamper for laundry, cooking equipment and a pantry of staples, and suggestions for walks in the area. We could easily have stayed two weeks! We loved the Wifi access, the flat screen tv with all the channels, the amfm radio, and the views. We would definitely return to this cottage, and recommend it without hesitation."

"Valasay provided a real taste of island life. The house was spacious, warm and comfortable with excellent facilities. We were given a great welcome by the owners who live next door and they were on hand if needed. There are fantastic walks straight from the house and superb views. The walk to Bosta is great. The house is also convenient for visiting Callanish stone circle, the blackhouse village and other places of interest on the NW coast of Lewis. The lovely beach at Uig is within reach and Stornaway is about 45 minutes drive away. We can really recommend this cottage for a great holiday."

"Great location, and well equiped property, ideal for a couple or small family to explore the island."

"We received a genuine warm welcome from Anne when we arrived. The house is very clean, with eveything you would need for the stay. The house was well decorated, with very nice pictures on the walls. Stunning scenery all round the property. Bed in double room was very comfortable. The bathroom was very good, with a shower. Kitchen had everyting that you would need (including a garlic press!) and a very reasonable sized fridge, which is always good. Living room was very comfortable, and although we did not need to use it, there was a fire. We would definately like to return, as we only stayed 3 nights, and there is still so much of Lewis and Harris to see."

"Wonderful place, so clean and tidy. The owner thought of every we would need. Very clean and tidy. Fantastic find. Excellent views and surroundings. Thanks for a wonderful holiday."

"The property was situated in a rather remote area of Lewis and we did not realise it was a semi-detached property rather than a detached cottage. However, this did not create a problem. In fact, we found it beneficial to have the owners living next door, who we found to be very welcoming, obliging and hospitable. The cottage was a lovely place and the facilities were excellent."

"The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. The location is simply stunning. Anne and Chris Ryan gave us a very warm welcome and were on hand if we needed anything. We were lucky enough to have five consecutive sunny days and so we were able to really explore the west coast of Lewis. Even if the weather had not been so kind, there are plenty of walks and sites of interest within walking distance of the house and a lovely open fire to sit by if the evenings are cold. We are already planning our next visit!"

"The property was spotlessly clean and had every facility possible to make you feel at home. The owners were very helpful and were always there for any help or questions regarding places to visit. The property is in a spectacular location and our holiday was wonderful from start to finish. Many thanks. "

"A very well equiped, comfortable property and the views are fantastic. The location is very remote, in a superb setting, which it made it ideal for the relaxing holiday we were looking for. Anne made is feel very welcome form the moment we arrived and was on hand if ever we needed her, but the rest of the time we were left to our own devices. Anne also gave us information about the surrounding area and answered questions we had about all parts of the island. The cottage itslef is a great base for a holiday, but also has alot of home comforts if you wished to stay there any day instead of venturing out (which we had to one day, due to inclement weather) Overall an excellent property, well worth the money and we will definitely be going back."

"Vallasay is a delightful house in a beautiful location. The owners live next door and were freindly and welcoming. The house is well equiped with modern conveniences including digital TV and WiFi. The views from all windows are splendid. The house faces a small bridge over a sea inlet with an ever changing scene as the tides ebb and flow. The surrounding countryside is excellent for walking and many other interesting places in North Lewis are a short car ride away. We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this house. "The house is clean and very warm (once you have cracked the coal fire) and all the equipment is of a high quality. A nice touch, in such a remote location was a cupboard of groceries you might have forgotten ! We were blessed with perfect weather but it would have been nice to know there is a DVD player, so that you could bring your own discs - particularily important if the weather is foul or for children maybe. It is a good base for visiting all parts of Harris and Lewis; probably my favourite 30 minutes was sitting on the rocks at the nearby Bosta beach watching the sun sink into the sea."

"The property and location were excellent with first class facilites in the property itself. Mrs Ryan was very welcoming and informative, despte us arriving late at night due to ferry problems. The property is very comfortable and well equiped for four or two persons - the only thing missing was a measuring jug in the kitchen!! Could be improved with a little more detail on accesability of the local facilities and attractions e.g. maps of local attractions and facilitiy opening times. All in all though we had a wonderful week - thank you"

"We had a great week at Valasay. The location of the property is idyllic being very rural and close to the shore with good walking and plenty of wildlife. The accommodation is roomy, clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated and well equipped. Add to that very welcoming hosts who made us feel genuinely 'at home' and this is a lovely place to stay. We'll be going again."

"An excellent property with good facilities. The kitchen dining area is well equipped, and well laid out. The living room has an open fire, and everything you need to use it is supplied! The bedrooms are spacious, with sufficient storage space for clothes for a week. And you shouldn't need more as there's a washing machine in the kitchen. All in all a cracking place to stay. You could spend a whole week exploring the area around the cottage without using your car - except for the shopping!"

Review submitted by Ben from London (Submitted: 03/05/2005)
"The property is very comfortable and easy to feel at home in. Anne and Chris provide a very warm welcome and made sure we were OK after the storm force gales hit! The location is great for views and walks from the front door, but make sure you don't run out of milk because it's a long walk to the local shop - well a 10 min drive actually."

Review submitted by Donna from Brighton (Submitted: 16/03/2005)
"It really was like a home away from home (only cleaner!!). Everything you might need was thought of which meant we had a hassle free relaxing week. Beautiful property and beautiful location. The hosts were also extremely welcoming and helped us immensely when our ferry back to the mainland was cancelled. A great time was had by all."

Review submitted by Sheila from Edinburgh (Submitted: 11/07/2004)
"This house is a self contained part of the owners' house, with a separate entrance. It was recently built, and has been decorated and furnished to the highest standard. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and contain everything you are likely to need on a self catering holiday. We were impressed to find reference books for birds, as the wildlife in the area is fascinating and unusual for townies like us. Central heating can be used as much as necessary, and there is also an open fire with fuel supplied. The location of the cottage is spectacular, with hills and water all around - we took millions of photos, especially of the unbelievable sunsets. The owners are a fount of knowledge about the area if you want it, but will leave you alone if you appear to prefer that. They can suggest good places to visit. Lewis and Harris make a beautiful island, and a holiday in this area would suit anyone who enjoys wonderful scenery, peace and quiet. I cannot recommend it too highly."

Review submitted by Edward from Derbyshire (Submitted: 15/10/2004)
"We found the property to be in exceptional order: immaculately clean, very spacious and extremley comfortable.
The location was ideal for a restful holiday and in within close proximity to several areas of interest.
Chris and Anne extended a very warm welcome, including having a roaring coal fire on our arrival.
Don't be put off by the ferry costs to Lewis - it's more than worth it!
We will definately return to Valasay Croft House in the future."
