| "My wife and I regularly rent our own apartment or villa for our vacations. We were absolutely delighted with Vanora Villa. The hosts were welcoming and accommodating, kindly meeting us at the Epicurean Supermarket at only 10 minutes notice that we had finished our shopping for a 9 day stay and guiding us to the peaceful location of the villa. The roads in Antigua are not the best we have come across and the last mile or so from Freetown to the villa itself does really only suit 4 x 4. The villa is nicely appointed, very spacious and homely and being used by the owners themselves in between rentals, the fittings and furnishings are of a higher than average standard but without at all feeling as though we were living in someone elses "home". A spacious and well appointed kitchen with lots of work surface and twin bowl sink made self-catering all the more enjoyable. Plently of cutlery, crockery, glasses etc for 6 people. A large American fridge/freezer easily stored enough produce for the two of us for nine days and the villa is large enough for 6 people to happily live together without tripping over each other all the time. The photographs that we had seen on various websites did not really do the place justice insofar as the spacious and well thought layout of the villa is such that the west terrace (with ample seating and dining facilities and hammock) is on the other side from the pool and rear terrace and would allow separated seclusion. There was a constant breeze coming in from the sea which was very welcome and if the wind did dro p a little overnight, the air-con in the bedroom was more than adequate to cool the room right down. The adjustable wooden shutters on a lot of the windows enabled the breeze (and therefore the temperature) to be easily controlled and the resulting climate was perfect. The night sky is something else. Turn off the lights and the sky becomes "alive". It took just ten seconds to spot the first shooting star! There are two kayaks supplied for use paddling out to snorkel around the mangroves and "green rock" island in the bay is great fun. Loads of small fish and enormous orange starfish. We had unnecessarily brought our own fishing tackle and snorkelling equipment. There is no need - its all there together with a selec tion of life-vests and kids play equipment. A small library of fiction paperbacks is building too so dont worry about not having enough to read. If you are looking for a peaceful, secluded, spacious, airy and comfortable villa, nicely appointed with an immaculate pool and plenty of alfresco dining and seating options, look no further than Vanora Villa. | "This is a lovely house rented by a really nice helpful local family. They made us very welcome and helped with our every need.
The only negatives we could come up with would be the lack of mosquito nets on the windows which led to some bites for our children and the relatively exposed aspect on the windy side of the island, although this also gave a refreshing breeze when the weather was calmer.
This is an great house for a young family. The pool can be closed off by locking the patio doors and there is a nice area around the house for local exploration. Nearby Half-Moon Bay beach is wonderful.
Our stay was greatly enhanced by hiring a local chef which I would recommend. The owners found him for us."

| "We were there for 4 days - 2 families with 2 little girls. The girls absolutely had a ball with the swimming pool, the beach nearby and did anyone mention the kayaks? There are a couple of kayaks at the beach nearby that one can take into the bay.
There are two restaurants nearby as well - Harmony Hall has a restauarant - lunch everyday and dinner till 8:00pm (dinner only on Friday and Saturday only). Then there is another resturant right off the beach - it is Italian food, great Caprese Salad and some pretty good coffee, not to mention all the great drinks. Walkable from the villa (~3 mins) via the beach.
The facilities in the villa are very good - there is a housekeeper who lives near-by, who will optionally come by (at your request) to come and tidy up the place every day. Housekeeper is also useful in the case of any emergencies being that the villa is in a remote part of the island (which in my opinion is a good thing). There is a well equipped kitchen. Get groceries from a store, stock the fridge and with the beaches and kayaks and snorkelling nearby there may not be a need to leave the villa at all. Given that the villa is far from the main city, if you have plans of going places (St Johns, English Harbor, Half Moon Bay, Jolly's Harbor etc) a car is a must.
On the owners - they are great! They came to pick us up at the VCBird airport when we landed. I don't think we would've found the place had they not come by to drive us to the villa. Super nice and great hospitality.
A couple of things to watch out for - the road to the villa is a dirt/rock road (for about a mile or so) - part of the reason why this place is remote. So be prepared for that. If it is rainy might be useful if the car were a 4-wheel drive. The driveway is quite steep and is not paved. Also watch out for insects/small lizards/maybe mice etc. This is part of being in a tropical island like Antigua I guess."
