"A wonderful place to relax in the autumn sunshine. Very peaceful and loved the character of the casita. Owners friendly and helpful. A good base for exploring nearby mountains & also the coast."

"We enjoyed the privacy of the property, and the area is gorgeous. The facilities are good - there is a pool, free internet access, and a TV with Sky (although the reception was a bit variable, with no satellite signal for 2 out of the 8 nights that we were there). The track to the property requires care to drive along it, and I would suggest that you should arrive in daylight at least initially. However to improve the experience of future holiday-makers we felt that the property needed to be freshened up eg a more comfortable sofa some of the walls needed a new coat of paint also we seemed to arrive in the middle of the woodlouse season and found it a little difficult to relax in the evenings, when the creatures began to become active. Certainly we were removing 10-20 woodlice from the house each evening. Perhaps though, we are too used to living in the city, and others may not have been so squeamish."

"An enchanting place. Much nicer than the pics on the website suggest. Each casita is very different and has its own personality – check what you want, roof terrace or big patio, for instance, before you book. We were the only guests and had the whole space to ourselves, but I would guess its just as nice with others as theres enough privacy if you want it. The tips in the guest book were brilliant, and it speaks for itself that everyones full of praise for this peaceful and beautiful place. We went with our 12 months old baby and she loved every minute, especially the frequent vistits from Kathmandu, the cat."

"The house could have been very beautiful, but unfortunately we found the house to be quite dirty - especially the kitchen where all the cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils and pans needed a really good wash before we could use them. I am not overally precious about things but there was a sticky layer of dust over everything in the kitchen. The house in general could have been beautiful it just needed a lick of paint, new linen and a bit of love."

Owner reply: :
Sorry you were disappointed. What a shame! Most of our guests love the cottage and want to come back. One has to bear in mind that this is a restored farm cottage and is in rustic style as in the photos. We were dismayed to read your comments and went down immediately to see what the problems were.

The casitas are always cleaned thoroughly prior to arrival and are usually spotless. Unfortunately we find that someone has stolen the high quality set of cutlery that had been in the kitchen drawer. The casita was repainted earlier in the year. The curtains in the bedroom are new. The bedlinen is fresh and clean. However, some items get a bit faded at the end of the season and are replaced in the winter maintenance period.

"Great location, helpful owners, lovely pool and perfectly equipped cottage. And peace. Minor improvements possible - a horribly uncomfortable sofa and quite a few holes in the mosquito netting - we got lots of bites. "

Owner reply: :
Sorry to hear that you were uncomfortable. Well have a look at the problems and see what we can do to improve the two points you raise. Its always helpful to have feedback so we can make your stay more enjoyable.

"The charm and character of "La Concha" was matched by the wonderful surrounding landscape, which was maginificent. Whilst the weather was not perfect (no fault of the casita), the setting description of a "micro climate" was correct as the valley seemed to be bathed in sunshine whilst the clouds (and rain) stayed mainly on the mountains. We would certainly consider going back in the future."

"The property is excellent located and is really superb. Unfortunately, the cottage itself was poorly maintained and not clean."

Owner reply: :
We are surprised that you didnt find things to your satisfaction. All our cottages are thoroughly cleaned prior to arrival of guests and we have only ever been complimented on the cleanliness and charm of the accommodation. It is a pity that you did not say anything to us directly since we asked on several occasions if everything was OK and if you were happy. In fact you wrote in our guest book "Thank you for a lovely stay...we enjoyed our stay...the property you have is quite a little heaven on earth". However, we should add that if you choose a holiday in an old stone built farm cottage in rural Andalucia then the occasional spider might wander in!

"We had a fantastic family holiday at Casa La Concha at Los Piedaos in March. The weather was beautiful, and the accommodation is very special. We woke up to birdsong and breakfast on the terrace overlooking the valley every day and our 1 year old really enjoyed the company of the cats and dogs. Shujata and David were very kind and thoughtful hosts and went out of their way to make us comfortable. We would love to go back and would recommend this holiday without hestitation."

"This property is situated just outside the local town in a beautiful, tranquil setting. Whether you are a copule looking for a romantic hideway or a family with young children, it is ideally placed to explore the region, and not too distant from Granada or the coast. The accommodation itself was very spacious and very nicely furnished and had everything we needed. It was really considerate of the owners to provide a welcome pack of essential items for people who had been unable to shop prior to arrival. Directions on how to find the accommodation (fairly essential!) were very accurate and enabled us to find it, even in the dark. The way the different accommodation units have been laid out ensures that each seperate house has its own private outside space, with stunning views to the Sierras beyond. We didnt make use of the pool as we were out most of the day but it looked very inviting, and we were impressed with the Computer Room available for guests use and also the laundry facilities. We would happily stay here again, and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends."

"We loved our holiday at Los Piedaos. David and Shujata gave us the warmest reception, leaving two bottles of local wine, fresh bread, milk and beer upon our arrival. The casita was beautiful, well-equipped and very clean and the surrounding landscape was stunning. The swimming pool was just perfect and gave us respite from the heat. David Dry, the architect who has carefully restored the holiday properties, has made an exceptional job and we were in awe of his dedication to sourcing local skills, materials and sustainable heating and air conditioning for the casitas. We have already decided to come back next year for longer as we think we have found the perfect hideaway from it all. Thank you so much!"

"The property, and the location were beautiful. The owners showed incredible attention to detail and were very welcoming. The only reason we might hesitate in recommending it to a friend would be the fear that there wouldnt be any space available for us!"

"After 5 weeks travelling around Europe and camping this villa was a absolute delight. Stunning location, comfortable, homely and little pleasant treats and features for the guest. Our hosts whilst friendly were not obstrusive and we relaxed with each day bringing a higher level of respect for the amount of work they had done to achieve this fabulous accomodation for us to share."

"Los Piedaos and La Concha specifically was an idyllic and beautiful location in which to spend a week, relaxing from the stresses of every day life. We had all the amenities required to make our stay really comfortable, as well as access to a delightful pool. The walks in the immediate surroundings were just lovely and gave us the chance to experience the beauty of the area. David and Shujata have thought of everything to make the stay memorable and yet, peaceful. The provision of information on the area, places to eat, shop and visit also really helped because all you need to know is immediately available. We wouldn't change a thing and look forward to visiting again as soon as possible."

"Excellent holiday in a great setting. The children's play area/facilities were really useful, and we enjoyed the many walks from the comfortable casita in the early morning cool. The owners are great - really helpful. Definitely recommended as a base in a lovely part of Andalucia."

"This is the second time we have been to Los Piedos. Very simply we love it there. We both have very busy, hectic work lives and Los Piedos provides a comfotable, relaxed and generally silent haven to unwind. I would love to recomend it to a friend but I wouldnt want the place to get to busy! It's not simple to get to and you should be prepared to try the local food as it's much better than any of the attempts at english food. All in we wouldnt fault it!"

"David and Shujata the owners were very friendly and helpful. The cottage itself was lovely, very peaceful and rural, we were the only visitors there at the time, but I should imagine it would also be a lot of fun with family/friends in the other cottages. the area itself is very pleasant with easy access to both coast and mountains. All in all a very pleasant and enjoyable stay."

"We hired all four cottages and had a great week"

Review submitted by emily from london (Submitted: 11/07/2006)
"

The property was fine although it seemed as if all the unwanted furniture and cushions etc had been used to fill this house. Very disappointing the pool was 'unwell'. Also from the website it looked like the pool belonged to the casita not communal but I may have missed something. Perhaps a good idea to suggest people hiring a 4 wheel drive vehicle or taking full insurance on the car as very easy to scratch/bump coming down the track. We enjoyed being in the middle of nowhere so we did have a nice holiday. Thank you.

"

Owner reply: :
It is a pity that these visitors did not appreciate the furnishings, which most people adore. The website photographs of the cottages accurately depict the style of the interiors, showing an eclectic mix of European, Indian and Moroccan pieces, some of which are expensive antiques.

"We visited Los Piedaos with 3 families with 6 little kids. It was a perfect place for us: enough privacy for every family with an own cottage and patio, but also good facilities to be together. The kids loved "their own village" and the swimming pool. Los Piedos is an extremely relaxing place with wonderful surroundings and starry sky. The owners gave us the space and were very helpful and hospitable."

"A superb location amongst Olive orchards. Near enough to Orgiva for essentials, but far enough for seclusion and quiet. A very pretty and functional cottage with wildlife all around you. We were walking and bridwatching, and had a great time. We even had a peregrine falcon catch a bird on the wing above our heads as we sat outside the cottage having a cup of tea. We visited in february.......great for warm sunny weather, and if your up to climbing high even snow! We loved the place and were made to feel welcome, and would love to go back!"

"A place with real character, and a taste of a quieter life. Tranquilly located but within easy striking distance of hills, coast and culture. Very accommodating hosts. Extremely well recommended."

"Lovely little house. Very very peaceful. Don't book here if your looking for luxury accomodation."

Owner reply: :
Alison is the first of many hundred visitors who failed to appreciate the ethos that lies behind the recreation of the "casitas" at Los Piedaos. The design of the buildings and their interiors is inspired by the traditional architecture of the region and its Moorish influences. The facilities and equipment are all that you might need but there is certainly no mosaic or marble. To quote another guest to La Rama, Lauren from Portland, USA
"The design is creative, earth-conscious, thoughtful and a beautiful reflection of the surrounding landscape. Beds are comfy etc etc…"

"La Concha is a peaceful respite to busy city life. Its idyllic setting on a hill overlooking olive groves makes it the perfect place to relax and while away the hours listening to the wildlife, reading and just generally chilling out. David and Shujata have clearly put a lot of care and attention into developing the property, and all their attention to detail makes any stay at Los Piedaos and the surrounding area so much more enjoyable. Their hints and tips ensured we got the most out of our stay and gave us a valuable insight into the farm and local area. We will definitely be recommending this hidden gem to friends and families!"

"Stunning place, ideal for relaxing and exploring. Good walking in locality. La Concha is a lovely Cassita, and we had a great stay. It has been rennovated in the 'old' style, so has some idiosyncratic aspects as well. Paint was peeling off walls in some places. We would definately go back, though. "

Owner reply: :
Sorry about the peeling paint! We had just had a leak from the water tank on the roof and needed to let the wall dry out thoroughly before repainting which was done the following week. It's all sparkling now!

"This villa proved to be everything it said it would be. Lots of space, very well equipped and lots of up to date local information. It is set in a lovely quiet rural area, but close enough to the coast or Granada to have day trips out, although a car is essential to get out & about. If you don't want to do that, fine - there is an extensive library, small shared pool, plenty of sun beds and you can just laze and listen to the birds, and the bees visiting the many flowering shrubs, until it is time to set the evening barbeque! Resident discreet owners make their mark with personal touches and a welcome pack."

"If you are looking for a holiday in a lovely location, with only the birds to disturb you, then this is for you. The accomodation was well designed and was as per the description on the web site. You cannot do other than chill out!"

"Cleverly designed to create three very private and charming casitas full of character. Our January visit coincided with freakish sub-zero daytime temperatures but we would like to return in Spring sometime or later, it must be magical."

"The property was as much as we expected from the description - pretty well equipped, quiet and in a good situation.A relaxing spot.I think small things like better quality bedding (sheets, pillow cases) and a change of linen half way through the week would add to it.Also a number of light bulbs non operative. The owners were very helpful and non intrusive."

Owner reply: :
Thanks for your review. We were a bit surprised about the bedding since it is all newly bought. We do, of course, change all linen once a week. There is a washing machine for the use of guests should they want to wash items more frequently. Sorry about the light bulbs - we do try to check them all before each arrival.

"Lovely property. Fantastic views from the terrace. Private courtyard.
Well equipped. Comfortable.
Close to 2 other properties but thoughtful design means that there is little disturbance from the other properties.
Swimming pool well maintained - thought not v. large.
Owners v. friendly and helpful.
Well equipped laundry room.
Good access from here to either the mountains (45mins) or the sea (45mins)
Spectacular night skies - i.e. very dark."

"lovingly restored and converted Alpujarran workers cottage. Very spacious and equipped with everything you could possibly require. If you're thinking about buying/restoring a Cortijo in this region you should stay here to see how it should be done!!You definitely need transport if you are staying here. This is real rural Spain, (although Orgiva itself has a surprisingly large Northern European population.) Visit the Alhambra while you're here - less than an hour's drive on mainly motorway. La Concha does what it says on the tin!!"
