"Words cannot adequately capture what an amazing stay we had at this lovely casita. I was drawn by the pictures initally and so delighted how perfect our 5 days were. The views are stunning, the architecture of the buildings diverse and the various places to chill out on the terrace ideal as shade could be found whenever you needed it under the beautiful fig and almond trees. The surrounding mountains changed colour depending on the time of day and the noise of the chicken during the morning and evening along with the crickets added to its charm. The 24 hour internet facility and the laundry room were an added bonus, the pool just perfect to cool off in! I would highly recommend staying here, we took a step out of very busy lives and came back grounded and energised. We will book again next year bringing our family to fill up all 3 casitas!"

"Wonderful views and general character. Great in the summer when you can be on the terrace and pool. Living accommodation may be a bit cramped in the colder months. Pool wonderful with views of the mountains and Orgiva."

"We were surprised how well designed it was: solar water heater, underground heat pumps and air conditioning, as well as the traditional wooden shutters to keep out the heat. It was a pleasing traditional and modern mixture, beautifully made, and nestling into the landscape, among shade giving trees and bamboos. It felt very secluded and private even though there were two other holiday lets adjoining. The whole environment, and location, was just perfect for a relaxing stay our teenage children were happy there too. We didnt feel like we had to get in the car much, as there were many walks that started directly from the house which were well documented by the owner. The pool was great too. "

"Beautiful accommodation in a beautiful area. Great base for a walking holiday. El Azahar is spacious, well equipped, very tastefully decorated and furnished and set in an olive grove. Once of the best places we have ever stayed over the past 25 years."

" Beautiful house of about 100mē. Nicely decorated with a fully equipped kitchen. A quiet location and close to Orgiva. Perfect!"

"Wonderful! Both Shujata and David made us feel very welcome. The cottages are beautiful, especially as theyre in keeping with the original architecture typical to this area historically, and full of personal touches that make you feel instantly at home and in comfort, not to mention the amazing terrace sun traps. The surrounding countryside is heavenly, and the open fires great fun for the winter! "

"A very lovely place. Lovely hosts. Muy Hermoso. One glimpse of the fabled golden bird, sheep's bells, ripe loquats, great walks along the acequias, a dog who climbed a tree, and a final day when we finally learned to do almost nothing at all which lasted forever. Thank you."

"we thought the property was fantastic - really well eqipped, everything had been thought of. On arrival we were met with a lovely selection of provisions which were very appreciated. There's a wasing machine whcih we discovered was essential with our baby - and a whole host of nappies, sun creams and other useful things there ready to use. the location is beautiful, the facilities are wonderful. I don't think the photos on the website do it justice at all, it's far nicer in reality."

"The setting was spectacular and the property itself very comfortable. The play area was perfect for our 19 month year old daughter who also enjoyed exploring the terraces and olive groves. David and Shujata were very friendly and helpful and their dogs and cats very patient with our daughter. As it was winter, we didn't use the pool but the wood burner was very effective in the evening and we enjoyed collecting kindling on our walks around the area. The notes on walks provided were very helpful. We also enjoyed the books in the house, especially the ones on the region - we'd recommend Gerald Brennan's "South of Grenada" to anyone coming to the area."

"A really good holiday rental property with everything on-site a family needs plus much more."

"One of three beautiful cottages built near each other, but well designed to ensure privacy. Excellent shared facilites (small pool, internet, laundry etc), and the owners live near by and are helpful and considerate. The location is quiet and has great views, and yet is quite close to Orgiva. El Azahar has large south facing terrace with great views across the valley."

"David & Shujata have made the most wonderful tranquil relaxing holiday cottages in which you can truly get away from it all. There is great attention to detail and you will find everything you need from a corkscrew to a parasol for the beach. The pool is fantastic though too cold for me but I't was warming up day by day, our children ages 4 and 7 had a great time and they found great companions in Max and Bonnie the resident dogs. The surrounding countryside is stunning and we were lucky enough to have snow on the top of the Sierra Nevadas while we were there. Make sure you take time to travel some of the walking and driving routes as the views you will see will take your breath away. all in all one of the loveliest holidays we have had for a long time with perfect but discreet hosts."

"All the important things are right: comfortable beds, a well-equipped kitchen you can cook in, a good shower, plain but comfortable furniture, private outside space with sun and shade, a well designed house which is also cool during the heat of the day. Overall:Excellent"

"A good welcome by the owners with special extras for our arrival - wine, beer, bread and other goodies in the fridge. House very comfortable for all weathers, super bathroom, excellent bed and good quality wooden sunloungers with cushions. Swimming pool and gardens delightful. Personal internet room an added bonus with lots of local information, maps and books. A lovely peaceful place, well designed so the houses don't overlook each other ( though the largest was empty when we stayed). Thank you."

"What a fabulous place! Beautifully decorated/furnished with excellent provisions e.g. juice maker, library of books/games! Lovely pool, fantastic bath/shower! Clean, comfortable, peaceful. We loved it and would definitely go back."

"A really excellent holiday home. We had a fabulous family holiday here with our young son who is 22 months. Casita is beatiful and a pleasure to stay in. Nice attention to detail throughout. Pool is really nice and great for lounging around. In short we were positive about all aspects of the property - price, quality, finish, scenery etc. Couple of suggestions for making it even better: 1. cut down pomegranite tree bordering patio to give view of olive grove and mountains 2. provide better information about local walks with clearer maps - they are many stunnung walks from house but current details do not make enough of this asset Thanks for a great holiday. "We stayed a week at El Azahar with our two little boys aged 3 and 5, and it was an enormously successful and wonderful week. The house is enchanting, very characterful and well designed, and also well equipped. I must say I agree with past reviewers that it is a shame the plants and trees around the terrace have been allowed to get so overgrown because there would be a lovely view otherwise. The pool was blissful, slightly green in parts by the end of the week but totally understandable given that it is run on such a natural system. I congratulate David and Shujata on devising such a natural, eco-conscious environment at Los Pieadaos - indeed this is one of the things that attracted us to the place - and it was very gratifying to think that all our waste water etc was going to good use, as one soon realises what an incredibly precious commodity water is out in Andalucia. Again I'd agree with all the other people who have enjoyed staying at El Azahar that it is an invaluable bonus having basic supplies in the fridge as well as bread, coffee etc, it helped us out enormously as we arrived at 10pm and were too travel fatigued to have thought such things through properly. Also the information available both in the cottage and in the computer room was excellent and much appreciated. The area itself is spectacular, we did a lot of exploring and spent many days up in the mountain villages Bubion, Capileira and Pampaneira. To our delight they were not too touristy at all (we were there in mid-June) and we ate very well at La Artesa - I recommend the goat stew! We also ventured up into the Sierra Nevada which was utterly stunning, really a very beautiful part of the world and actually not very far from the casitas. We had very little interaction with David and Shujata which was no problem; we felt confident that if we had any difficulties they were there to help. All in all it was a very happy, relaxed holiday and both our children want to go there every year!! Many thanks to all concerned, especially the person who cleaned the house so well for our arrival. It all makes a big difference."

"El Azahar is a property full of character. The setting is beautiful and peaceful. The property has excellent facilities and there are many nice touches. Bags of information and advice. The welcome food and drink was appreciated. We felt we had privacy and the pool was remarkably empty. One of us has walking and disability problems but the property was Ok for this although the one with special facilities may be better. The track to the house is a slight challenge for a car with poor clearance in one or two places. We wondered about a little pruning to improve view from our terrace but maybe we would loose out on shade. All in all strongly recommended provided you are not seeking the fleshpots of the coast. "

"wonderful holiday. Quite isolated up a mile long very rough track, just the 3 cottages, owners house and lovely pool. We had a very relaxing family holiday, spent most of time in pool, 14 and 11 year old pleased with computer room and DVD player, but aslo spent lots of time playing games (some there but take more). Local restaurants disappointing but great facilities for cooking at home. Laundry room very handy. Good fun horse-riding one day. Lovelt, relaxing, chilled holiday."

Review submitted by Trevor from Isle of Man (Submitted: 30/05/2006)
"The villa is well furnished and comfortable with all the amenities you could wish for. It is sitiuated in a quiet and secluded position, surrounded by olive groves. It has a private patio with good sunbathing opportunities and a shared pool, in good condition. The owners are helpful but unobtrusive and we found the information left in the property to be very helpful. The property is located off the main road and down a fairly rough dirt track, approximately 1 kilometre drive. This needs careful negotiating. The local town , Orgiva offers little variety in terms of eating out, but sufficient opportunites for food shopping to make self-catering easy."

"A charming, well-thought out casita which we hugely enjoyed staying in. The large terrace with its high quality furniture and BBQ meant we enjoyed many evenings on the terrace rather than eating out which was a first for us! Enjoyed Orgiva the local town and easy access to both the coast and Granada. My wife and I enjoy regular travel and are always looking forward to a new destination but El Azahar/Los Piedaos is somewhere we would most definitely return to. It is really quite special."

"We found the casitas to be charming, comfortable, private and very inviting. The architectual details were well exceptional and everything about the house was inviting. We loved the two private outdoor areas for eating and all the olive trees. Thanks for a great vacation experience."

Review submitted by Lisa from London (Submitted: 13/09/2005)
"The property itself was lovely. It is set in a lovely location and is very comfortable and so relaxing. The pool is also fantastic for when it gets very hot and you need to cool off. Unfortunately, the owners were away the week we stayed and despite a number of attempts to locate the people looking after the villa in their absence to help us with a few things we needed we didn't see a soul for the rest of the week which was frustrating. We were also a little disappointed with the surrounding area. It is caters for tourists and the ex-pat community living there. We were disappointed with the food as it seems to cater for more foreign palates than allowing you to experience the traditional food of the area. Granada is nearby and was a wonderful day trip away."

Review submitted by Steve from el ahazar orgiva (Submitted: 31/08/2005)
"There is something special about el ahazar, not too sterile or ordered and nott too much like we were invading someone else's home. There was a really hospitable feel to the place. Fantastic deck area surrounded by fig trees with views to the over the valley and lovely walks straight down into the valley itself. The small group of houses are placed together to allow for real privacy if wanted, or there can be a little more sociability round the lovely pool. The accommodation has been designed carefully and can be kept very cool during the day. It may not be for everyone, but for us, two adults and a 7 yr old girl who loves swiming it was perfect."

Review submitted by Steve from Bristol (Submitted: 30/08/2005)
"Traditional feel, but newly designed property with fabulous views of the Sierra Lugar and the beginnings of the Sierra Nevada. A truly relaxing and quiet place for unwinding and relaxing. Surrounded by a range of fruit trees, figs, almonds, olives, pomengranates.... The pool was throughly enjoyed by the children, as was the air conditioning on hot nights. Our hosts were there if we needed them, but not intrusive. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday."

Review submitted by Dirk from Belgium (Submitted: 24/05/2005)
"Great place and we certainly intend to return. We appreciated the fact that there was beer, wine, milk, bread available upon arrival as well as the fact that very decent material is being used like the beds, the cot and the garden furniture. It pays off to invest in good stuff, it pleases the renters... So long, David Dirk Geeraerts & family"
