| "This unit is very well situated near the heart of Madrid, just 4-5 blocks from Gran Via and less than a 10-15 minute walk to major sites. Despite its central location, it was surprisingly quiet (being on the top floor helps, as do good windows). You are still in the city center, so of course there is noise, but it was very tolerable. The location is excellent.
Ive been to many VRBOs, and this one is about average in terms of the amenities provided - kitchen (no oven), nice couch and TV, full-sized tables, an okay bed, very basic toiletries and supplies (though only one set of linens and towels). Like most rentals, you dont get much more than is advertised, but it was all adequate for our stay.
Only two caveats for this unit: (1) As other reviews and the property description note, it is five (really six, by American standards) flights of stairs with no elevator. The stairs are old, uneven, and steep. Be prepared (and in good shape!) to haul luggage up and down. Im in reasonable shape, and found that at the end of a day of walking around Madrid, the most exhausting physical challenge was the stairs. We got used to it, but if you have a bum knee, are elderly, or are out of shape, you should think twice about this one. I would still probably return due to the price and quality of the unit overall, however.
(2) No air conditioning. This was the first VRBO Ive stayed at without A/C (I was told that due to the age of the building AC wasnt allowed). For late fall, winter, and early spring travel, I dont imagine this will be a problem (there is heat in the form of electric radiators which, after a few hours, do warm the place nicely). However, if you are traveling in the summer, it will be an issue for some. We went in mid-September, right at the cusp of fall, so the first 4 days there were very hot and the last 4 rather chilly. We toured during the daytime and opened the windows to cool the place down in the evening, so it wasnt terrible, but I can imagine in August it might be a different story. We were told there was a fan in the unit, which was technically true, but it was no more than 8-12", the sort of thing you would put on your office desk, and not really adequate to the task (it also had a very dirty switch, making it nearly impossible to get it to stay on). If staying in the summer, ask if the fan has been replaced with something larger and in good working order.
Overall, a pleasant place to stay at a very good price given its location.

| "Clean, quiet, well-designed and furnished apartment. Everything was delightful. The stairs were a bit of a struggle, but were young college students, so it was a worthwhile workout. The only downside was one cockroach that we found had crawled into an open suitcase, but since the apartment was immaculate in general, I dont think its the fault of the owner.
Thanks for a great stay in an eclectic neighborhood of Madrid! The metro was within walking distance and we were within walking distance to tons of shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed the stay! Thank you! We received our entire booking deposit without any issue."

| "Located absolutely in the centre of Madrid and a minute walk from the Grand Via, this well priced and well decorated apartment is perfect for sightseers. It’s located in a ‘SOHO’ style area of the city, so there’s the odd Sex Shop but the initially intimidating street is actually very friendly and just bustling with people, cafes, restaurants and bars. It is at the top of 5 flights of stairs, plus has no air-con, but at the start of June was a perfectly pleasant temperature with the windows ajar, despite the 30c+ days. Compact with everything you could want in an apartment including free Wi-Fi. We had an amazing time staying here, it is compact and probably a touch overpriced because of that."

| "This apartment was perfect for us. Ideally located, the owners made sure that the renters would want for nothing. Yes, small, but turn around and its there...including a book of suggestions for great restaurants and walking tours, etc...read it and "reap". We did and if we ever return to Madrid, we just hope this beautiful property is there for us!!!"

| "In a great location - convenient, easy, fun and hip neighborhood - on a great street.
The apt is clean and well-kept - very much as described. Perfect for a couple (or a couple with one child).
Small, but efficient, and has everything you need - great value for the cost.
Wed definitely stay there again."

| "The apartment was exactly as described. Although small, it was perfect for our needs (clean, comfortable, modern and a great location). Yes, there are 92 stairs to walk up, but only half as many going down, or so it seems. We were able to walk to most tourist sites (e.g. Gran Via: 5 minutes Puerta de Sol: 15 minutes Prado: 20 minutes) and the Metro was only minutes away. As stated in other reviews, read the instructions in the provided folder in order to know how to operate the various appliances and the TV. Be aware however, there is a cat in the apartment next door that has a tendency, at least while we were there, to howl at all times of the day and night. Overall we would highly recommend the apartment and wouldnt hesitate to go back."

The radiators took a while to warm up the unit. Apt is ideally located. I was able to walk everywhere. Great deal for the money given location."

| "Beware of the stairs! There are 92 steps to climb before you get to the front door of the apartment. Very good exercise, however if you or anyone you are traveling with is unable to climb a lot of stairs, several times a day, then I would stay clear from this apartment. After a few days, you do get used to the stairs and they get easier to climb-be sure to find the light switch and turn the lights on BEFORE attempting to climb the stairs, or even before going down the stairs...the steps are made of old wood that is not level or square and it is very easy to slip on them, so do not attemp in the dark-and hold on to the railings!
The apartment was small, but neat and clean. I ended up traveling alone, and the apt. was the perfect size for one or two-but more than that and it could be a bit uncomfortable and a bit of inconvenient since the hot water runs out quickly-especially if you like to take a long shower.
I was suprised to find that the property owners has left some starter groceries in the refrigerator and the cupboards, which was nice and convenient.
Excellent location-close to everything...I walked everywhere and only took the Metro to and from the airport, which was very nice because it only cost 1.90Euros each trip.
READ THE FOLDER OF INFORMATION AS SOON AS YOU GET IN THE APARTMENT! I did not open this up until the 2nd day-would have saved me a lot of headaches if I had read it when I arrived. Has information on how to use the Television, how to turn on the heat, information and maps of the area, how to use the washing machine, etc....very helpful...especially if you read it when you arrive before you try to figure it all out yourself.
I think it was a bit over-priced for the size and the fact of the steps and that you had to do your own cooking, cleaning and laundry...when I converted the Euros to USD, it ended up costing about $135.00 per night.
Overall- a nice, small, clean apt. with excellent access to most everything."

| "This property was an excellent value for the money and one of the best locations in Madrid. It was very clean and well-kept and looked exactly like it does in the photos.
The owners of the property were very helpful and attentive. They provided a great guide to how things in the apartment worked.
Althought the stairs were a little difficult to climb with a suitcase, I found it completely fine for the rest of the trip.
The only thing the apartment lacks is a stereo. However, if you bring an audio cable you can plug your iPod of CD player into the television.
I would definitely stay there again during my next visit to Madrid."

| "The room was perfect for our needs a home away from home. It was warm and welcoming. There was ample room and wonderful benefits - a phone for use in Spain, WIFI, cable, a washing machine, a line to dry onesclothes. It was roomy. It was located in a great spot for walking or Metro use. The owners were very helpful with any questions. The only consideration I would have in recommending this apartment to anyone, is the six flights of stairs to the apartment. It was not undoable for us, but if someone has physical limitations, this could be a problem."

| "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Chueca apartment. It is an extraordinary good value for the money, and exceeded our expectations. It seemed newly renovated and spotlessly clean. The description of the apartment was accurate, but did not capture its´ charm and wonderful location. We were looked after very well. One problem with the tv was immediately attended to and we were provided with many staples in the kitchen. All appliances worked well, especially a much appreciated washing machine. We hated to leave, would definitely return, and would recommend it to our friends who are fit enough to climb six flights of stairs."

| "We had a fantastic stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in clean, well-appointed apartment in a centrally located area of Madrid. Ranpal (the owner) couldnt have been nicer, meeting us very late upon arrival at the airport to give us the key, and meeting us again 5 weeks later in the city to return our iPods which we left in the apartment.
The welcome package was a real blessing after such a long flight and although the apartment doesnt have a/c, we found it cool enough in the middle of summer as it catches nice breezes being on the top floor.
In all, a very comfortable stay in a beautiful city. Thank you!"

| "We were very pleased with the property. It was as it was described. The owner(s) took alot of pride in making the property desirable, and provided good information in our email exchanges as well as information in the apartment itself (applicance instructions, area sights and amenities, etc.).
Being Americans, we were concerned about the lack of air conditioning, but during our visit, we didn't need it at all (05/08/ 2008 - 05/18/2008).
You do need to be physically fit because the apartment is on the 5th floor with no lift (this was in the advertising), so the stairs can be daunting, especially after a night on the town.
All in all, it was a great experience."

| "My husband and I were thrilled to be in downtown Madrid. Extremely convenient to metro stops and shopping. The owner was extremely helpful during our stay. That is the way to visit Madrid! The stairs were not a problem and we are not in shape. We did our huffing and puffing but that was not a deterrant. The apartment is very quiet which I'm sure is due to being 5 flights up. European kitchens take a little getting used to but it was so very nice to be able to cook when we wanted to. The TV took some figuring out but we managed and found some very nice radio stations on it as well. Space utilization is very well done. We were able to lounge about and not bump into one another. Great place!"

Markets (fresh produce, meats and fish) within 5 blocks, excellent bakeries within 3 blocks, gym within a block. Much better value and much more comfortable than a hotel.

The location is perfect in Madrid, you can walk with ease to all the main areas of interest and the are around has great restaurants, bars and life.
The apartment is a home away from home and I don't think we could have picked a better apartment and location all together. The information provided at the apartment on Madrid was very helpful and we enjoyed relaxing there after spending our day in the city before going out for a meal at night.
Thank you very much Ranpal for having us stay and we'll certainly return to your apartment again the next time we are in Madrid.

The facilities are excellent and the flat has everything you need. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are a lot of stairs, and you either need to be very fit or take rests on the way up! It was the only negative point however, and if I were to go to Madrid again I wouldn't hesitate to stay here."

Nice to be able to use my computer and stay connected to the world through the free wifi. Apt. is in an incredible location and allows you the luxury of being in the thick of all the great restaurants and Tapas bars and great shopping. It is also set back enough from the streets so that you can have some peace and quiet in this bustling and noisy city. Ranpal the owner of the apartment is so helpful and has great pride in making your stay at her apartment an optimal one.
We loved the apartment and the location and will definitely stay right here again the next time we return"

| "This small, but nicely appointed apartment is comfortable, well laid-out and a great value. It is in the heart of a lively area, convenient to transportation (metro, train, bus tours, taxis, etc), restaurants, shops, cafes and Gran Via. We took several day trips, but could have easily spent more time in and around Chueca and other parts of Madrid.
The owners are warm, friendly and available, if and when needed. Prior to and during our trip, all questions and concerns were addressed promptly and honestly. Everything was exactly as promised, including a few pantry items and perishables in the fridge. A nice touch.
It is on the 5th floor, but we got used to the climb after a day or two. A little exercise never hurt anyone. :-)"

| "The online description of this property is excellent - and reality matches the description. It is excellent. The building is located on a busy side street close to the centre of Madrid and within walking distance to everything, but the apartment itself is quiet - away from traffic and noise. It was immaculately presented, with furnishings and equipment being new and comfortable and of a high standard. Touches such as the electric underblanket on the bed and the dressing gown really added to the comfort here.
The owners were exceptionally helpful and friendly, giving me a lot of information about Madrid and living in Spain.
The stairs (5 floors) are quite narrow and steep (so make sure you're OK with that), but so well worth the climb up to a most delightful apartment."

The apartment was clean and modern and fully stocked with everythin we needed. The supermarket was close by and the location was perfect. We never took a taxi or a metro. | "This was a wonderful, newly renovated, spacious 1 bedroom apt. The big concern is you have to be able to negotiate the 90+ stairs as you come and go as it is 6 flites up!.
As it is in a central location we enjoyed being able to walk almost everywhere. Located on the back side of the building, the noise from the busy street was not an issue.
We enjoyed the ability to cook and just relax at the end of each day of exploration. The kitchen was well stocked with all that you need.
Wireless internet and great flatscreen tv with
cable (even with english language) made for nice ways to stay in touch.

Apartment was quiet despite being on busy street (it faces back but with still a lot of light). Very clean and well kept. A bigger bed would have been nice but bed was fine. The directions from the Plaza Chueca stop to the apartment could be more detailed. Having the kitchen fully stocked was really nice! You could grocery and wine shop and have a relaxing breakfast/lunch or dinner at home after a day of sightseeing or late night Madrid fun. The 5 flights of stairs were a killer at first but after a couple of days I was amazed at how easy they had gotten. Best part of trip for me besides all the sightseeing and museums, actually turned out to include the stairs to the charming, clean, airy, safe, tastefully decorated, comfortable Chueca apartment. I lost 5 pounds feel great!!! Would absolutely rebook, highly recommend."

All of the major sights are within walking distance and the immediate area is buzzing with great bars and restaurants. The flat is small but has been furrnished with imagination in order to make the most of the space and it does not feel cramped. The descriptions on the website are accurate and fair. Although the flat is in a very busy area it is quiet and peaceful. Once we had collected keys we had no need to contact the owner but were given a range of contact numbers just in case, which was a very good service. Highly recommended!"

The apartment was clean, looked exactly like the photos on the website, and came equipped with everything you would need during a vacation stay. The "welcome kit" was useful. Good, central location. I would have stayed longer if the apartment had not already been booked.

The apartment itself is beautifully decorated and has all the conveniences one could ask. Although there is no air conditioning, the weather was nice and opening the windows made the apartment quite cool. The neighborhood is "transitional." It was fine during the day, but one night (around 11pm) someone tried to get into my backpack as we were walking home (amusingly enough, all they found were diapers and baby bottles, so nothing was taken). The sleeping arrangements were good, and we even constructed a makeshift "crib" for the baby so he didn't have to sleep with us as we had planned. There was construction scheduled on a neighbor's roof, so there was some noise during the day, but this was a temporary issue and not a fault of the apartment. We especially valued the (fast) internet connection, which allowed us to Skype home when needed. Overall, an excellent apartment with very helpful owners."

The apartment was just as described, and the photos are identical to the current condition of the apt. Everything was very clean and orgnized. All the necessities are provided for you. The stove and washing machine were a huge help, and having a fridge was a major convenience. The apt is situated just steps away from a major street which is great for shopping and also has a train station that can get you anywhere. Also, the apt is only a few minutes walk from all major tourist attractions, so if you are there to see the sights this is the perfect place. There are also great cafes, restaurants and bars in the immediate area. All in all, the apartment was exactly what we expected.."
