"Really lovely riad, expertly decorated, spacious, with the added benefit of a housekeeper that can really cook. Thanks very much! "

"The spacious house has been beautifully restored and tastefully decorated and is well situated within the medina. Essaouira is an interesting town bustling with life. The beach is close by and great for children. Zara, the housekeeper, cooks great meals at a small price."

"What a charming and beautiful house in such an interesting and beautiful town. We really did enjoy our stay in Essoria and there is no where better to stay than Darqawi. The only problem with our holiday was that it was not long enough! We enjoyed a great breakfast every morning. Followed by a morning walk around the market, then on to the beech. The weather was great and we cannot wait to go back again next year!"

"I stayed here at the beginning of August and I had the most amazing time! The riad was fabulous with lovely individually decorated bedrooms. It was in a fantastic location, minutes from the souk and beach! The roof terrace was ideal for early evening al fresco drinks looking out over the hussle and bustle of the medina before venturing in to the town for a meal, although the best food we ate there was cooked by the very friendly and attentive maid Zahra who cooked us enormous, delicious local meals for next to nothing and cleaned the house immaculately each day. I will definately return to this riad and have already recommended it to many friends and family members! "

"The house is lovely and the location excellent. Essaouira is a lovely town and a great place for families, due to the laid back nature of the people, the beach and the fun to be had haggling in the Medina. We will definitely return. The only very slight niggle we had was that there were no provisions at all when we arrived at the house, not even a bottle of water or toilet paper. It wasn't a problem as there is a shop outside the house but as the advert promised a welcome pack we did expect at least a roll of toilet paper in one of the bathrooms. We would certainly return to the house again and have already recommended it to our friends and family."

We are delighted at reading such a wonderful review and recommendation.Thank you so much! But we were mortified to hear about the lack of welcome basket, water and loo paper although we are most grateful to you for pointing this out as it is, in our view, quite unacceptable. Unfortunately, these oversights were down to human error and they have now been put right. I doubt whether this situation will repeat itself. It is most important to us to make our guests feel welcome! Should you return to Essaouira, dinner will be on us!

"What a fantastic house. We were made welcome even before we arrived with very helpful, comprehensive notes about Dar Qawi and all the amenities of the house provided by the charming owners as well as detailed information about Essaouira, shopping, restaurants and places of interest in the surrounding countryside. Zara, the housekeeper treated us to a wonderful breakfast on the roof terrace each day as well as making an amazingly tasty tagine for one evening meal. The Dar was spotless and thoroughly cleaned each day, the furnishings were extremely comfortable and the extras such as DVD, CD, i-pod dock and satellite TV were better than we have at home! Soaking up the sun on the roof terrace whilst it was cold and wet at home was a paticular pleasure, and thanks to the house notes we were able to find a wine shop for lovely Moroccan wine to be enjoyed at the same time. We can't wait to return to Dar Qawi as soon as possible to enjoy more of the true flaour of Essaouira and Morocco whilst being spoiled in such a cozy and comfortable home. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your fabulous house."

"The prroperty was comfortable and well equipped. Zora was very good and made the stay. However there was no hot water in the main bathroom. The smell from outside of the property was very bad, there was water and rubbish everywhere. There is also a problem with the electricity when you have the lights and fire on. It would have been nice to have a log fire. The overall stay was good. Thank You Annmarie."

Owner reply: :
Thank you for your feedback. We are always interested in what our guests have to say and we are happy to take on board comments and suggestions. I am glad that your stay overall was enjoyable. Zara is indeed an angel and loves spoiling our guests.
As regards the water: In charming Moroccan style, the hot water in the particular ensuite you stayed in, comes out of the cold water tap and the cold out of the hot tap! This is noted in the notes we emailed you prior to your stay. Building and fire regulations don't allow us to have a 'proper' open fire, only a decorative one but there are very efficient electric heaters in all the bedrooms and in the salon. Generally, however, the weather in Essaouira is from clement to hot, so heating or an open fire are very rarely required! I was sorry to hear that there appear to have been problems with the fusing. This has now been rectified. I was also surprised to hear about the dirty, smelly street. Dar Qawi is in what is considered to be the smartest part of the medina, however, the hustle and bustle of life in a small North African seaside town, the shops and restaurants and toing and froing are not far away. Sometimes on busy market days, the little streets and alleyways are not as spotless in the evening as they are in the morning but rubbish is removed and streets are cleaned daily. I do hope that for most of your stay you enjoyed the benefit of the wonderfully fresh and stimulating sea breeze and that we may welcome you again in the near future!

"Dar Qawi is a delight : beautiful rooms and common areas, generous facilities, lovely outside space and well positioned for the beach and medina. The owners, the agent and the housekeeper made our stay truly memorable and we cannot wait to return."
