"Review Title "Great Villa...Tranquil Location"

"Brilliant villa...very spacious with lovely Moroccan design features. Very safe, friendly staff and nicely located about 10kms out of town. Very nice being close to the city (about a 15ᆨ min drive) but being in the peace and quiet of a more rural location".

"The Villa was lovely and the cook and maid were very helpful and attentive. However the fact we do not speak French and they didn’t speak a word of English really hindered us and we found the remoteness of the villa a real stumbling block. Had we of known how necessary it was to speak French or how remote the place was we wouldn’t have gone (even the cable TV only had French channels). The information we were given was very basic – shuttle bus time table, excusion information and contact numbers for the site. The guide on Marrakech was in French and there was no sign of the local restaurant guide that was mentioned. It would have been handy to have a bit more information about the area, local shops etc. Some of the other places we’ve been to have had a comments book that people have written useful tips etc in. Philippe, who managed the site, did speak very basic English and did try his best but we went to his office a couple of times and he wasnt there. We had planned to have our evening meal cooked for us most evenings and possibly go out for dinner, but Marrakech was 40 minutes away by shuttle bus and not the 15 minutes away we were led to believe and they did not run in the evening. We were advised when we got there not to use taxis because they wouldn’t be able to find the villa due to its remote location. We’d also planned to self cater for the remaining meals neither of us really wanted a big lunch so were planning to make a sandwich. I was told before we went that there was a local shop where we could get the basics but when we tried to explain that we wanted to buy things like bread, butter and milk they tried to encourage us to order their breakfast and lunches. We were eventually taken to a cash and carry type shop some 30 minutes away and ended up buying bottles or wine, beer and nibbles etc so it was a useful trip but not viable to visit daily for bread etc as they charged 40 euros for the return trip. The cook and maid would turn up most days at mid-day and the cook would start cooking (even on the days we didn’t have dinner) and be there most of the afternoon so, although they stayed in the kitchen, it felt like the villa was never our own and it was awkward to go into the kitchen and prepare lunch for ourselves while she was busy cooking and it would have been handy to know in advance what there routine was. They did sometimes disappear off mid afternoon and it turned out they were resting in the 3rd bedroom – not sure what they would have done if there had been 6 of us! It took us a few days to figure out what was going on. The fridge was well stocked with wine, cold drinks and beers but they were expensive. It was also full of fresh vegetable and eggs etc but we weren’t sure what we could use so tended not to bother. The villa did not have a washing machine as stated and they charged 10 euros for a wash which we thought was a bit excessive. We couldn’t find the iron or the book library either. We ended up changing our flights and came home on the Thursday instead of Sunday so in that sense it was definitely not good value. As I’ve said the villa is lovely but you really need to be aware of the fact it’s in the middle of nowhere and the fact that you really need to speak French. I can honestly say that we have never felt so isolated. "

Owner reply: :
First all may I say that I am sorry that you did not enjoy your holiday as much as you would have liked. Marrakech is a wonderful place to visit and is very rich in culture .Benidorm it is not so yes a basic understanding of French would be a great help if nothing else but to show abit of willing to the locals.I speak very few words in French but like most places around the world if you try abit it is amazing how much English they actually speak.
I am very pleased that you liked the villa and you were pleased with the staff as this is the most difficult part of most people’s holiday to satisfy
There is a shop 800m from the domain so I am sorry that you could not find it.
Marrakech is a city like London so it is very difficult to guarantee a travelling time and clearly depending where you are going is going to be a different time . Marrakech is 15 to 20 minutes and the medina is 25 to 30 minutes.
Domain is in a rural setting as described on the website and from many of our conversation I did explain that it is best suited to people that wanted to relax and go into the city as required and not suitable to people wishing to walk to cafe’s etc as a Riad in Marrakech would be much better for those clients.

"Villa and staff were very high quality. Villa was situated in a slightly remote area so if you want peace and tranquility with the ability to access lively evenings then this is ideal. You will however need to work around the free shuttle or organise lifts (which we did as the shuttle is every couple of hours) - around £30 return trip. Villa very clean but did suffer from lack of water on occassions. If you want a good guide ask Phillipe for Mohammad - he is excellent. One or two of the others were very expensive and not overly hospitable! Mohammad will ensure you get to the best restaurants and make the most of your stay. A good time was had by all - a big thank you to all the staff at the villa."

"A very beautiful and well presented villa, all the staff were charming and attentive to all our needs, the villa looks much better in real life. Great for the kids, a wonderful place to relax or use as a base camp, the food that we had prepared for us was fantastic a good taste of Moroccan life. Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality."

"A really nice relaxing break at a very run villa. We enjoyed this long weekend as it was great to relax after a busy day in the Medina. The riad style villa is furnished well and we took full advantage of the full time maid / chef for breakfast and dinner although we did eat out on a couple of nights as well so it was very flexible .Would like to go for longer next time as really did not see everything that we wanted too as we spent far too much time by the pool ! 2009"
