"We had a wonderful stay in your peaceful, well equipped cottage, far more spacious than wed expected. The setting is just perfect and the drive up from the village was a welcome relief from the main roads. We also managed to navigate to Le Ginestre from the south via Montegiove!"

"We had a fantastic stay at Casa Merlo, with the peace and quiet of the Umbrian hills surrounding us. If you want to stay somewhere where you feel like you are the only tourist, this is the place to be! It is an easy drive to many of the impressive hilltop towns. The house is cozy, with beautiful touches. The caretakers, Olympia and Romeo are genuine, kind hosts and it was a pleasure to have had the opportunity to meet them. We were also fortunate to meet the owner Beverley. She made us feel right at home. We would not hesitate to stay here again and we would recommend it highly for your stay in Umbria. We will always have fond memories of Casa Merlo. Judy and Danny Foster"

"A very comfortable house, well equipped and a warm welcome from the house manager Olimpia. The location is perfect being surrounded by rugged Umbrian hills, ten minutes drive to Tavenelle for supplies and 25 minutes drive to major town Perugia for . Many ancient hilltop cities like Orvieto, Assisi, Gubbio, Piegaro, Pinacale & Citta della Pieve are within easy driving distance. Very good markets in most of the aforementioned towns 1 day per week. The weather was very good hitting 34 C so the swimming pool was very welcome (dont forget your swim hats) and quiete due many of the neighbouring houses being unoccupied. Very tranquel area with the sounds of crickets, birds and cuckoos for excellent company as we sat in the garden for a sundowner or two. Olimpia and Romeo were extremely helpful and welcoming during our stay. Highly recommended for family or couples stay, many thanks to Beverley and Steve. "

"A delightful house, well equipped and welcoming. The location is perfect being surrounded by rugged Umbrian hills, but only ten minutes drive to Tavenelle for supplies. Many ancient hilltop cities like Orvieto, Assisi, Gubbio, Piegaro & Citta della Pieve are within easy driving distance. Being there in early May meant that the swimming pool was not in action and many of the neighbouring houses were unoccupied but we did have the sounds of crickets, birds and cuckoos for excellent company as we dined in the flowering garden in delightful temperatures. Olimpia and Romeo were charming and extremely helpful making our stay a real delight. "

"The cottage and its location is fantastic and lovely and peaceful. The cottage is very well equipped, and very clean and tidy. It is relatively easy to find and is well sign posted. Only went wrong once which is not bad for us. There is a well stocked kitchen, book case and DVD collection, all of which came in very useful during our stay. The swimming pool is great and again well cared for and our two boys loved it. Best of all our youngest son learnt to swim with no arm bands on this holiday. We didnt see any Wild Boars but did meet a scary looking scorpino one evening after a storm. The local Tom cat is a great little guy and even came to say good bye to us. We didnt do too much travelling about due to the hot weather but the local area is beautiful. The Swimming pool at Tavernelle would be ideal for families with older children (10yrs +). We went for a look arounf but the our children where to small for the slides and were disappointed as they have been on bigger ones before but thats how it goes. Its 22 euros for a family of four for the day. The other residents of the other cottages seemed friendly and would stop for a chat and challenged our two boys to a game of watrer polo. The big double bed was really comfortable and the lads loved their room. Many thanks for letting us stay at the cottage, great place ! "

"A beautiful property in a beautiful area. Far more spacious than we'd expected, and very generously and comfortably equipped. Our children loved the pool and the wildlife, we loved the views and the peacefulness of the whole site - ample reward for the slightly hairy drive up from the town! Absolutely lovely."

Dear Jo

Thank you kindly for your excellent review. We are very pleased that you all enjoyed yourselves at Le Ginestre and have recovered from the 'hairy' trip up the hill?

I have authorised the return of your breakage deposit which you should receive shortly.

I hope we can welcome you back to Casa Merlo in the future.

Kind Regards

Beverley + Steve

"Lovely tasteful house. No problems. Loved the casualness of the arrangements - food left there for visitors with proviso that you replace when you leave. Lots of resources - DVDs, books games. It really felt like an home. "

"We had a wonderful holiday in your beautiful house, it was everything that we could have wanted. The setting is marvellous, we were very sorry to have to leave and return to England. The weather was superb and we hardly saw another soul all day, apart from the very friendly little marmalade cat whom we made a big fuss of. Olimpia was extremely helpful and was always working to make the garden even nicer. We are already scheming to find a way of returning next year if possible. We followed your directions carefully and found the house without real difficulty, although the steep right turn in Castiglion Fosca is actually about 0.5 km beyond the village sign rather than immediately after it; we had a worrying few minutes when it did not appear. Again, many thanks. "

"A wonderful, tranquil, beautiful cottage!!!! With lovely views all around, set in a very peaceful location - perfect for a thoroughly relaxing holiday. We had high hopes of lots of sightseeing but were lulled into inactivity by the comfort of Casa Merlo. The small towns close to the cottage provided all we needed in terms of shopping, coffees, gelati and aperatifs. We did visit Montepulciano and Orvieto - both beautiful, interesting hilltop towns and worth a visit."

"Top marks for all aspects of Casa Merlo. The house is extremely comfortable, attractively decorated and well equipped. The heating was very efficient, a bonus in early April. We also enjoyed the big log fire. We appreciated the big double bed and cotton sheets and the children loved their cosy room. The views all around are stunning and can be enjoyed from the front and back gardens. There are other cottages near by that were mostly empty at this time of year so it was very quiet. It felt quite remote. They are newly built but blend in with the few older buildings around because of their style (stone and rustic). Beyond this small settlement only the hills are visible. I have never heard so many birds! We spent three of the days that we were there walking with our 9 and 6 year olds. There are clear paths and a stream that they enjoyed playing in. No communal pool at this time of year though we felt like a swim on the last day! Instead we paddled, over heated in the Spring sunshine. it was delightful. It was very peaceful there, but we never felt too isolated. Romeo and Olimpia were around and very helpful. What the childrne most enjoyed was being able to explore on their own. We let them wander around the settlement and they ate their breakfast on the little bridge behind the house. The 9 year old made a map and really enjoyed the freedom. We felt that it was very safe for them. There is masses to see in the area. We loved Assissi, Lake Tresimeno. nearby Panicale and the cathedral in Orvieto (6 year old thought it was fairy castle). We ate out very well and not expensively. We will have to return to see Perugia, Spello, Cortona etc. all nearby! We looked out for wild boar but didn't see any, though the 9 year old claimed she had heard one snort in the bushes. I would thoroughly recommend Casa Merlo. It is a lovely house in a beautiful setting in a fantastic part of Italy. Magic. Thank you for an excellent holiday."

"Great location for peace and quiet - but with a good shared swimming pool, a discreet distance from the villa. The property was clean and very well appointed - yet full of character. We were very impressed with the high standard of fittings and equipment within the property - and the helpful pre-holiday communication from the owners. Highly recommended !"

"A thoughtfully equipped and deceptively spacious property. Good location for exploring nearby towns and sights and a nice pool too! Interesting drive up to property from Tavernelle especially after dark and a few glasses of local wine. (your car-hire company may disagree here) Ideal spot for a week."

"The property is full of character in a stunning location in the hills with good local amenities. There is a lovely pool and the grounds are beautifully maintained. Inside the cottage is tastefully and extremely well equipped - a home from home. We ate outside every day gazing down the hill at the lovely forests where we saw porcupines. we can't wait to go back."

" We found the property (an easy drive from Rome airport) set in a beautiful, quiet, rural site. My wife and I enjoyed the seclusion and peace of the villa and discovered it was very well placed for touring all the surrounding Umbrian countryside, from Assisi to Terni, from Citta di Castello to Spoleto. The log fire was an additional luxury for out of season visitors. The local restaurant was another great bonus."
