"We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Lucia, the property is very well appointed and decorated. It provided a perfect base for Granada and the Alhambra, and the surrounding areas eg Alpujarra. The outdoor pool area in the evening provides a lovely setting to enjoy a drink or meal. I would thoroughly recommend this property."

"Casa Lucia is a charming, beautiful property with modern comforts and traditional Spanish touches. The furniture and decor is tasteful and extremely well maintained. We stayed for a week in late September and had hoped to use the pool but didnt factor in that the temperatures begin to cool substantially at this time. The kitchen is large and a pleasure to use. The only two dings we would mention is that after our check-in, we were unable to contact the onsite property managers with questions and if there is one upgrade to make wed suggest the beds as a candidate. The bedrooms are cozy and well appointed but the beds are not comfortable. Apart from that, we would recommend this property for its overall charm, gorgeous views and excellent location."

"The property was excellent, the pool was fantastic. Very private and self contained. The locals were very friendly, as previously mentioned a working knowledge of Spanish is useful however we managed to muddle through with atrocious accents a phrase book and plenty of smiling from all involved. Our thanks to Jackie and Simon for making us feel so welcome and for all their help. We left after the first night of fiesta and would have loved to have seen the whole weekend of it. Maybe another year. We had a brilliant holiday either relaxing by the pool or on day trips out exploring the surrounding area. Many thanks :) "

"Note from the owner: The renovation of the property next door is nearly completed. The crane of blocking the road and the builder’s material has now been removed from the road. They are working inside the building. When we were there over New Year there was little noise from the builders"

" "The property is very nice indeed. Its actually both nicer and larger than it appears in the photos on the website. It is very well equipped indeed with good quality items and the owner has added many personal touches which means that its more like staying in someones home than a holiday villa. I must say the owner is very trusting to leave so many personal items there. We have a villa in Florida and had many personal items stolen, but perhaps thats a cultural difference between European and US guests? The underfloor heating makes the house very warm and cosy even when its not so warm outside. We did had a problem with the boiler but Martin the local agent came promptly and reset it with the button and then it was fine. The pool is beautiful but it was too cold to use in October. The property also has a Sky DigiBox so we were able to get UK TV channels which is really nice. My 5-year old son summed it up best when he said "The only thing wrong with this house is that it doesnt have the internet". (He was missing cbbc.co.uk and lego.com!) But we did experience a lot of noise from the building site next door. Every weekday morning at 8am prompt the drilling and hammering started. Ive never known a building that required so much drilling and hammering! Perhaps they built it wrong and now need to fix it? And the building site is attached (terraced) to the house so it does go through the house. But we cant complain, the owner did warn us about that. The only other issue is the parking there. The streets are very narrow and you can get blocked in, especially with the road closed to cars past the building site next door. One other thing: The directions say leave the motorway at junction 152. Its 153 actually. And the directions to the property currently dont really work in that the road is closed due to the building site next door. You need to go around the block to get to the property. Not a problem, but it caused us a bit of hassle trying to find it at 11pm and finding that the directions are no longer valid (with the road closed). But it only cost us an extra 15 mins of driving around the village. Really, the village is slow small that it only takes 15 mins to drive around all of it! One more tip for other visitors: Orgiva is lovely, Lanjarron is horrible! And Pampaneira and Capileira are lovely too, but take a little while to get to. ""

Owner reply: :
The major part of the construction next door has been finished and the crane that previously blocked the road has now been removed. Ashley was quite right about the exit number on the motorway. 153 is now correct but things in Spain can change without warning!
Parking in the street in front of our house is not a good ideas as the streets are very narrow. There is always parking in the nearby Plaza Nueva. You can park anywhere as long as you do not obstruct someones driveway or garage door entrance. The village is very small and the Spanish are not possessive about the space in front of their property.

"We had a woderful two weeks at Casa Lucia. The weather was hot and the house was fabulous. The owners of this property have very good taste and it was a pleasure to be in such luxurious surroundings. The swimming pool is large enough to have proper fun in and great for cooling off after sunbathing on the terrace. We loved having the evening meal on the top floor overlooking the mountains. The problem with the building site next door was immediatly sorted out by the local representative in a calm and efficient manner. The local information made available to us was extremely useful and we hope to return to explore further afield."

"two families of four stayed at the villa including two teenagers, we all really enjoyed ourselves, there is lots of space in the villa and loads of room to chill out around the pool it is the most relaxing holiday we have had. We would certainly return. It is excellently equipped with everything you could possibly need. We made lots of use of the BBQ but also went out a few times it is really very spainish so take your phrase book as no english is spoken but that is what is lovely about the village. "

"The house was in great condition, bright and airy, spic and span with seemingly brand new appliances. The location was in a very small town just a few kliks from the autovista, so getting to the sea, Grenada, the mountains was quick and easy. The rooms were generous in size and the pool splendid and very private. We will definitely use your services again! GREY"

"We stayed in Casa Lucia during Christmas 2007. The location is beautiful--near Granada, near the Mediterranean Sea--and the town in a tiny, quiet place. The house is big with comfortable furniture and a well supplied set of kitchen utensils and pans. The local agent did some shopping for us at a nearby Carrefour ahead of time which was a necessity since we didn't get to Spain until the night of Christmas Eve and there was no way for us to do any shopping ourselves. The communication with the owners and local caretakers was friendly and helpful. The problem was that though we had been to Granada before and knew it was in the mountains and therefore, chilly in winter, the heat was broken or insufficient. It snowed the day before we arrived, so it was truly cold and though the house was advertised as winterized, it wasn't. There was a wood stove, but we went through the logs fast and even had to open the oven and turn on the stove to try to heat up the main level more. The bedrooms were icy cold day and night. Though the caretaker came to try to fix it, it remained very cold, so we cut our visit short and went elsewhere. I think this would be a great house for a summer visit when the cool weather is a pleasant break from the otherwise blistering heat of southern Spain. There is even a pool! But without a heater overhaul, I would not recommend it for a winter visit."

Owner reply: :
I am very sorry to hear of Mathew's experience. I have stayed in the house through a similar cold spell as have others with no problems. I will look into any possible causes.
Feb 2007: I have had the heating checked and there appears to be no problem. I must assume that Matthew had a very cold spell with lot of cold wind or perhaps he did not realise that each room has its own thermostat controlling the underfloor heating in that room.

"Fantastic Villa and facilites. Although in the centre of a small village, it is incredibly private. The only negative is parking on the small street outside"

"This property is definatly for lovers of real spain. Is set in a lovely village with friendly locals and surrounded by intersting towns and wonderful scenery. The villa its self was large and airy and even though the temperature 35c - 40c inside was lovely and cool. Its a real home from home everything you need and much more."

"The property was excellent, well located and well equipped. The property manager showed us clearly and quickly around, and was very prompt with any further requests for information. The house is well maintained and the dealings I had with Mr Coathup were always professional, helpful and courteous - I wish I could say the same for my contact with Villarentals staff, with whom I had ongoing problems and queries left unanswered. I would have no hesitation about recommending this property - we had a magnificent holiday."

Owner reply: :
I am pleased Chelsea enjoyed our house and the holiday. Her experience with VillaRenters was unusual and an email from me sorted it out right away. I regret her inconvenience and I am glad I was able to assist. Paul Coathup

"A traditional spanish villa from the outside with everything you need domestically on the inside and with a real home from home feel. The pool was a lovely size and looked very inviting but was too cold at the begining of April for my children to dip more than a toe in. The rooms in the villa were very spacious which is a real asset in very hot or slightly cool weather. We enjoyed our stay very much."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Lucia as the villa was is great condition and everything we needed was provided. The location of the villa was in a lovely area with a great view. The decription of the property was accurate and I would have no doubt in recommending it to a friend. I also thought it was great value for money and the service provided was excellent. I would definitely consider staying in Casa Lucia again. Thanks."

"Casa Lucia is an ideal spot for those that wish to immerse themselves in the Spanish way of life. There were no signs of other tourists in the village, and mixing with the local, friendly population in the bar, the bakers and the supermarkets was a delight. Granada and the Alpujarras are an easy 30 minutes away. The house has every amenity, and the pool area is very spacious and is a splendid retreat in which to relax. My only quibble would be in regard to the beds - far too hard for my liking."

"Beatifully restored in a simple fashion to make the most of the original features. Large rooms, lovely views from roof terrace; ample outside space to enjoy the weather. Excellently equipped house. Surroundings breathtaking; village had everything required for a simple, authentic Spanish experience. Within easy reach of main routes to coast & Granada. Would go again!"

"I am the owner. It is our family house in Spain; my youngest daughter chose the ruin; my eldest son was the English architect; my other son injected his energy and passion while my wife supported me in my quixotic venture. The result is village house renovated to give a restful and luxurious house in Spain for our family, our friends and ourselves. It is not in a tourist area so gives a glimpse into rural Andalucia.. You can read on the sun-beds then slide into the pool to cool off. You can explore the gorges and valleys cut by the water from the mountains or you can walk in the Sierra Nevada or the Alpujaras. You can bird-watch from the roof terrace (crag martins, house martins, swallows, pallid swifts and alpine swifts all swoop by) or whale-watch in the Straits of Gibraltar. You can ski in the winter yet the Mediterranean – the Costa Tropical - is only 40 minutes away. You can explore the Moorish heritage of Granada, Cordoba and Malaga. Or you can laze about and watch the comings and goings of village life. There are no other reviews because so far only our friends and family have stayed. They have all rebooked! I hope all who stay in our house enjoy the experience as much as we do. "
