| "Mattia and Guiseppe were perfect hosts, and the manor house a perfect setting. The pool was beautiful and just right for relaxing by. There was plenty to see in the surrounding area. Sansepolcro was an attractive old walled town with a good stock of restaurants and shops. The whole place was ideal if you just want to get away from everything but even the teenagers enjoyed it."

"Review 1945: Torre del Guado, Apartment www.torredelguado.com
Recommended. Review by Nahoko Ohashi from UK
apartments on an estate near Arezzo, Tuscany East
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When Christmas 2005, 1 week
Location The manor house sat in a very green country. Their private garden was immense which was surrounded by farms so there was plenty of privacy and tranquility. Very pretty landscape ... the estate itself was in the centre of the valley so you were in the middle of the green open space but at the same time surrounded in the distant by the Appenines and Tuscan rolling hills/hilltop towns ... kind of like being in the middle of the open theatre, absolutely charming.
Nearby Amenities The closest town Sansepolcro was about 5 minutes drive. We were just so impressed with how beautiful and charming this relatively unknown town was! Many bars where you can enjoy from cappuccino to aperitif, fresh grocers with lots of local products, great butcher (salami and prosciutto are hand made by the owner butcher who keeps his pigs/cattles at a nearby farm where they are raised in open space), fantastic restaurants (very refined ones too!), and very chic boutiques.
Also to note is a family-run lovely organic vegetable shop we found in a nearby village called San Leo ... our 1 year old daughter absolutely loved their carrots & apples!
The House/Apartment A couple of hundred years old building (the oldest part of the building dates back to 13th century!) was restored to the highest quality by the owner couple, Mattia and Giuseppe. We stayed in one of their tastefully decorated five apartments in the estate.
Garden There was an ecological swimming pool (they don't use chlorine!) and a nice covered gazebo. We would definitely enjoy them at our next visit in the summer.
Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas Apartment was furnished to a high standard to the finest details, following rustic but chic Tuscan country style. They were not too posh nor too luxurious but welcoming and tasteful, making you feel very much at home. All rooms were shiny clean and comfortable. We paricularly enjoyed the wood fireplace in the living room.
Bedrooms/Bathrooms Same with bedroom and bathroom, they were clean, comfortable and very well maintained.
Kitchen Kitchen was very functional and had everything you needed to cook full meals. When we got a bit tired of eating out at restaurants we would cook simple pastas accompanied by freshest buffalo mozzarella cheese, prosciutto and Tuscan red wine ... how we miss them!!
Agency and Representatives (and price) The owner couple Mattia and Giuseppe lived in the same estate. They were extremely friendly, hospitable, caring, and were very helpful in giving us advice as to where to visit, where to eat, where to buy, etc. As many Italians are, they were great with our 1 year old daughter, almost as if they were her real aunt/uncle! By the time we were to leave, our normally very shy daughter would happily be taken in Mattia's arms which was just fantastic.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would definitely recommend Torre del Guado. If you are looking for a green, peaceful and relaxing vacation, not being swamped by mass tourism, but at the same time enjoy what Italy can offer (fantastic food, charming historical cities, shopping, etc.) this is it!
Their apartments are very cozy, nice, clean, exactly what you'd expect from a Tuscan country house and we found their price very reasonable to what we got. Giuseppe and Mattia will make sure that you are happy and will assist you throughout your stay. We've decided that we'd go back to visit them again this summer.
Things to do in this area Sightseeing (Arezzo 30min drive, Perugia 1hr). There were also many less known small historical towns/villages (Anghiari, Sansepolcro, Citta' di Castello, etc.) which were great for morning/evening strolls. Horseriding, trekking (the Appenines). Shopping was fantastic (Arezzo, Sansepolcro, Citta' di Castello). Countless lovely restaurants. If you are porcini/truffle lover, you should try restaurants in Caprese Michelangelo (30min), the natal village of the great painter Michelangelo! It was our first time to visit this part of Tuscany and we just loved it ... local Italians' way of life was still very much present in this area.
