Just returned from 2 weeks in this lovely location the villa was absolutely beautiful, spotless and a real home from home equipped with everything you could possibly need. The village itself has a well stocked supermarket nearby and a great local bus service to Bridgetown and Speightstown, but would recommend car rental to really get to see the island. The only small issue would be the poor reception on the tv, we travelled with our two children 9 and 6 and they were disappointed not to be able to watch the childrens channels in the evening. Having said that, the free wifi internet service was a huge benefit. Overall I wouldnt hesitate to recommend Ajoupa Villas to anyone who wants a quiet, relaxing holiday in the sun.

We absolutely loved coming from cold, wet and dreary Seattle to lovely Ajoupa and Fitts Village. The pool, lizards, toad, occasional hummingbird, friendly island dog (that visited every night) and the cat whom got his daily cold milk from us were lovely friends that enriched our trip! We especially found the washer and dryer to be very convenient as we trasped back and forth from the salt water to the fresh very handy. The air conditioners and fans were spot on from keeping a breeze going to allowing us to sleep at the right temperature! I loved the am roosters call, friendly neighbors that gave us fruit and showed us how to cook breadfruit and plantains it enriched our childrens experience in learning from the local Bajans than a hotel ever could have. The landscaping was a tropical, well maintained and gorgeous oasis! We loved it and would come back and do this trip all over again making NO changes!

We spent a few weeks at this lovely villa which suited us perfectly. We are a family of 4 with 2 boys aged 8 and 7 and they loved it - great having the pool on your doorstep and we had it to ourselves for the majority of the stay! Fitts Beach which is a couple of minutes walk away is stunning and there is great snorkelling there as well as a good area for swimming. The villa is very well located for the supermarket and getting around on the local buses which we did daily and which the boys loved too! Truly a home from home and although we have tried to book to go back same time next year someone else has already beaten us to it! Really loved it and cant recommend enough. Thank you :-)

We had an excellent holiday at this villa. Its location was perfect only a 2 minutes walk to the beach and local supermarket and the area is very quiet and we felt very safe. The pool is right in front of the villa and we had it to ourself the whole week, the kids really enjoyed it when we were not at the beach. The locals are very nice too. It was easy to get around the island using the buses, and the Il Tempio restaurant on the beach is a must do even if a bit expensive the food was amazing. We had rented 3 villas in the Ajoupa complex and my 7 years old daughter said that ours was the nicest, the person who decorated the villa had really good taste. :)) Overall we liked it so much that we didnt want to go back home. One week stay was not enough for sure. When we go back to Barbados we will definitly be renting this villa again.

I stayed in this pretty villa over Christmas and New Year. It was fantastic as usual (not my first stay here and certainly not my last). It was clean, well equipped and fresh as new. What you see in the photos on-line is what you get at number 6 Ajoupa. Its a stones throw from Fitts Beach, but there are so many great beaches on the island that its well worth the effort of visiting others by bus or car. Cant help noting another reviewer complained about lack of facility to eat outdoors at number 6. On the top balcony is a fold up picnic table (seats six) and if you use the balcony chairs (light to carry out) you can eat out on the pool patio. I cleared it with the neighbours to make sure no one objected. It was great to get a take-away from Just Grillin and eat out under the stars, watching the fireflies and the moon. Tree frogs in the background. We put tee-lights in paper bags out there as lanterns, and some of the neighbours joined us for drinks. By the way, I wouldnt recommend leaving bedroom windows open at night anywhere in Barbados because there ARE mossies, although not as troublesome as other tropical places. I cant wait to return in December!

This lovely two bed villa in Fitts Village is absolutely immaculate, very comfortable and well-equipped. It is only a short stroll to beautiful Fitts beach, and Jordans supermarket is even closer. We hired a car for the first week to explore, but were more than happy to get the bus the second week, so easy and so cheap... We especially loved the yellow reggae buses, smiled every time! The pool was a huge hit with our 7 yo son, and we could sit on the verandah watching him play. I loved sitting reading on the upstairs balcony in the evenings. There was very little trouble with mozzies, I didnt get bitten at all. There are a couple of things that prevent me from giving 5 stars, however. Firstly, no facility to eat outdoors, which I would have assumed to be normal in any rental in a hot destination :( . There was also a bit of a problem with chickens from local houses trying to get in the house (and pooing on the steps). We also found it a little noisy, music at night, dogs barking, cockerels crowing from before dawn, so much so that we couldnt leave the windows open at night. However, if you can cope with that, this is a very good value rental on the beautiful West Coast... And it was very hard to leave!

The villa was fantastic...it was the perfect size with 2 bedrooms, a living room, dining room and kitchen. There were also two bathrooms, one full size and one powder room. It was very safe. The house is in front of the pool which is great. It is also walking distance to the supermarket and beach. You really dont need a car here. The other people in the complex were also very friendly and welcoming. I would recommend this villa to anyone.

I stayed at number 6 Ajoupa from January 2nd to February 4th 2011, it was my second visit there so I didn’t bother to post a review but as I am now planning another visit I just logged on and read the feedback dated March from another visitor (who stayed there only a month after I left it). When I arrived at the villa I was rather apprehensive thinking it might have lost some of its pristine appearance since my visit the previous year. But it looked just as welcoming, no obvious wear and tear, and as comfortable as ever. It is very well fitted out with all amenities down to the corkscrew and bottle opener for sundowners on the balcony. The pool and patio are right outside Number 6, so very easy to take a cooling dip each day. Upstairs there are beach chairs, and other beach equipment in one of the wardrobes, and a hairdryer, ironing board and iron. I felt I had to write as I would say this villa was exceptionally clean during my stay, though with all doors and windows open some dust is bound to get in between weekly cleans. I know that the mattress in the main bedroom was turned in January by Monica as my companion actually helped her to turn it. So I really am at a loss to explain the earlier comments. We also found that the comfortable folding chairs and 2 beach umbrellas were quite adequate, and were especially useful in that we could take them to the beach, which we could not do with heavy sunbeds. The patio area by the pool is not large enough for all villas to be provided with sunbeds, it would just not be practical. This is a small, well furnished, well equipped, self-catering villa, not a five star hotel. I would think that the earlier feedback listed over several years reflects more correctly how really nice this property is. Many of the tenants are return visitors which must say something. I have no hesitation in giving this villa a 5 star rating and look forward to my visit in January 2012. Here, belatedly, is the feedback I wrote in February, and I have no hesitation in posting it now. Anne, Southampton.

All in all a nice villa in a good location however a few things did disappoint us, hence our selec tion of "No -Disappointed". The villa is one of the best on the site in terms of location overlooking the communal pool and having a view across the paddock down to the ocean. However, although not dirty, the cleaning of the apartment was not as complete as we would have liked. Door panels, skirting boards all had aged dust on them and when my wife lifted the mattress in the master bedroom the amount of dust, skin and hair between the wooden slats was significant. The pool was nice especially as we like to relax every other day around it and get a tan, however, we were very disappointed that no sun loungers are supplied nor is there any shade available on the pool terrace. Finally, based on the fact that most travelers would have come a long way its a shame some form of welcome pack isnt supplied, even if this is just tea, coffee, milk, bread, fruit, etc. We would consider returning to Ajoupa Villas but only if we can obtain a lounger each for using round the pool.

Owner reply:
Dear Mark, many thanks for posting your review, feed back is so important to us. I would like to confirm I have discussed your comments of cleanliness with our agent in Barbados and the cleaning staff now operate with a check list, to ensure nothing is missed. On your point of no sun loungers and no shade, we do provide two folding deck chairs and sun umbrellas in our villa for guests to use by the pool. We also do offer on our property advert that we are able to provide a welcome pack if required, but as the local supermarket is open till 9pm most opt to get their own shopping.

This was my fourth visit to this villa and I have already asked to return next year. The owners clearly ensure it is regularly updat ed and fresh, and it is looked after by Monica who is available 24/7 to help. It always exceeds my expectations. For anyone considering booking this pretty villa it is nicely located in a small development of 14 identical villas but all individually owned and differently furnished. It is in a local village, not a noisy tourist environment, and is about 500 yards up a hill from the beach. Jordan’s supermarket is the same distance away, and there is an Italian bistro/beach bar as a nearby watering hole. The local people are extremely friendly and helpful – one made me a Christmas cake from an old Bajan recipe of her mother’s which was ‘fed’ daily with local rum until we almost drank it on Christmas Day! Others gave me local information with a big smile! Number 6 is one of four villas directly in front of the swimming pool and the balcony has an unobstructed view of the sea. Each evening we had sundowners there while we watched the yachts and ships making for Bridgetown harbour against fantastic sunsets. After dark we watched the fireflies in the Bearded Fig to the side of number 5 while listening to the whistling frogs which is the dominant sound of Barbados nights. I cannot recommend this villa highly enough in terms of cleanliness, equipment, value for money etc it ticks all the boxes. I always rent a car because the island is well worth exploring and there are wonderful uncrowded beaches all round the island. There are picnic chairs and coolbag in the villa so with a car it is easy to take really good picnics. However, there is a regular bus service along the main road by the beach which I am told is ‘an experience’.

We loved the privacy and the area the villa was situated - middle distance from good towns and amenities. The villa was well equipped with everything we could need. Restaurants in Holetown all lovely and good value. Monica was lovely and called twice and the residents who lived in the other villas were very friendly too. We will definately be back to Barbados.

Really pleased with this house. Spacious, well-furnished, clean with a nice feel about it. The location is also excellent - the West Coast was the best in our view, we had easy access to some of the best beaches (Paynes was a particular favourite though Fitts was also good) and Holetown with supermarket and restaurants wasnt far. All in all we had a fab time - many thanks

The villa is well appointed and was very clean on our arrival. Monica welcomed us and showed us round even though we were later than anticipated. The villa was then cleaned once during our stay. Well equipped kitchen, very confortable beds, lovely decor. We had the swimming pool to ourselves most of our stay. The beach at the end of the road is quiet and peaceful and good for families. Only bad points (about the location NOT the villa itself): Fitts is mostly a fishing village and as such as very little to offer: only one supermarket and one overpriced and over rated italian restaurant. As a couple, we really enjoyed the tranquillity but our teenage boys would have appreciated a little more life. I would still, howver, recommend the villa to friends and family.

This was my third holiday at #6 Ajoupa and it was as enjoyable as my previous two visits. The owners make small improvements each year and the villa is as pristine and well cared for and comfortable now as when it was brand new. The neighbours in the other 13 identical properties are mostly owner/residents and are very freindly and helpful. Being a short walk to the beach, supermarket and buses it is well located for a self-catering holiday. Also there is a good wateringhole on the beach Il Tempio which is a beach bar as well as a decent Italian restaurant. A friend and I had a very happy Christmas and New Year there, and cannot say better than that I have already booked it again for next year.

We arrived late in the afternoon and was greeted by Monica who looked after us both very well throughout the stay. She showed us where evrything was and what to do and even popped in the check all was okay during our stay. The property was very clean and tidy and in very good condition. I would be pleased to recommend it to anybody and only hope we will be staying there again in the not to distant future. A lady from Canada did sugget feeding the cats - a very silly idea on your own patio, as they will never leave you alone and keep trying to get in the villa. If you have to feed them put it in their bowls !! People should think when making these comments as my wife has a bad allergy with cat fur!!!

This villa proved to be the perfect base for my wife and seven year old son for our recent two week break. Located part way up the west coast was ideal as everything seemed easy to get to. The local supermarket and various restaurants around Holetown were varied and overall excellent. I think a car is vital is you want to see the island although the local bus service is good. The villa itself is spotless, in a quiet area and the pool is perfect. The position of the villa is ideal having the swimming pool outside our door and a great view of the sea and a grandstand seat for the wonderful sunsets. I would not hesitate to recommend this villa to anyone wishing to visit Barbados.

My wife and i had a great time at your villa. It was well situated for the West coast and easy to get around on the bus service. Pool felt like ours being right in Front of our balcony. Villa was nice and clean with the amenities you need for the trip. Would stay again and both decided staying in the Villa a much better option than being locked into a resort, there are so many nice places to eat and drink it would be a waste to sit in one place.

For those of you who are having a difficult time deciding which part of the Island to stay, whether on the East Coast or West Coast, I suggest that you try the Ajoupa Villas on the West Coast in Fitts Village, St. James. The Villa exceeded my expectations. It is well maintained, clean, quiet, very close to public transportation, if youre not going to rent a car, and I felt quite safe there. The locals were wonderful to us, giving us mangos or directions and I was quite please with the place, despite the roosters crowing. The sound of it was wonderful...to me. Taking in the culture of the Island was also beautiful. There is Jordans Supermarket (right down the hill to your left) to do your food shopping, however, I visited Fishermans Pub in Speightstown, St. Peter (Take the Bus or minivan marked Speightstown to the last stop), where they serve bajan food by the water and the cost is affordable and you also get a great view. It was wonderful. You can take that same bus to Holetown for your "close" souvenir shopping, if you cant get into Bridgetown. I suggest if you can to bring with you food stuff, if youre traveling with kids, as the food shopping on the Island is very expensive. Although there is a lovely beach across the street from the Supermarket, it is also very rocky, so try to get to Browns Beach (which is walking distance from Bridgetown. Just go over the first bridge and keep walking straight or ask a local). The beach is beautiful with white sand, no rocks and a calm beach. It is also the home of Harbourlights, a very nice night club, if youre into that. As you can see, I can go on... But this will give you an idea of what to expect if you decide to visit the Ajoupa Villas. The price was reasonable for the quality of service we received and we will definitely recommend this to another. It was worth every penny. Just watch out for those African snails. They love to eat. :)

6 Ajoupa Villas is an exellent place to visit Barbados from. We have two children ages 15 and 13 and the villa was the perfect size for us. It was very clean, with modern appliances and some nice little touches such as beach umbrellas, portable cooler for the beach, and even boogie boards!! The pool is a must to cool-off in the afternoon, even after a day at the beach. Its also a great way to start your day. If you are looking for a place to stay that makes visiting Barbados fun, central to all sites, and great value, then this villa is for you.

TV , dvd handy as we did stay in some evenings- we felt very at home there.Very large fridge.Kitchen well equipped. Taxi journey took under half an hour. An ideal place to stay if you do not want to be in the middle of a busy town. Local bus is 50p a journey to the livelier places!

Have just ended a perfect two weeks at the villa which is part of a small modern complex close to Fitts beach. Its situation is near the end of the development and conveniently opposite the pool so one could enjoy a cooling dip in about 2 minutes. The villa is extremely well appointed and clean with all the modern conveniences one would expect at home plus quiet and efficient A/C and fans. When the patio and back doors are open a refreshing breeze is an additional comfort. Beds can make or break a holiday in my opinion, so I was relieved to find them as comfortable as my own. Because the villa has unrestricted views to the sea, it was an added pleasure to enjoy a planters punch on the balcony at the end of the day watching the glorious Barbados sunsets and the cruise liners departing. A truly wonderful Barbados experience.

This was my second visit to this property. The same time last year I was the very first occupant of the new villa. I did wonder if it might have deteriorated but it was, if anything, better as some new things have been added to make it even nicer. It is still spotlessly clean and well equipped. The beds are extremely comfortable and the kitchen is better equipped than most UK homes. The pool and communal gardens are tended regularly. The villa is well situated near beaches, supermarket and good restaurants. I would not recommend for 18-30s as it is a very quiet location among local houses, but for families and mature visitors (like me) it makes a restful base on this lovely island. Although regular buses pass at the end of the road (100 yards away) a rental car for at least part of the holiday is recommended for getting to South and East coasts. It is excellent value for money and I have already provisionally booked for next year.

Fantasic, clean property, well equipped with everything we needed including boogie boards, pool toys, snorkel and chairs for the beach. Bedrooms nice and clean, beds were nice & comfy, and there are excellent views from balcony upstairs. Pool really close to the villa, and supermarket 5 mins walk away - has all the essentials and reasonably priced - big bottles of rum for about 9 quid!!! Villas are set in very nice well-kept gardens we were often visited by the birds and bats, which roosted nearby in the big mango tree. Mosquitoes and/or insect repellent a must. You really need a car if you want to go to nicer beaches or do more than just a beach holiday - Fitts is OK but Mullins Beach further north we found much nicer, with more activity. We strongly recommend you try Teds Tours for a good and entertaining insight into the island - includes all drinks & food and is very reasonably priced. There are not many restaurants a short walk nearby apart from Il Tempio although buses are frequent and cheap if you want to go further. All in all, a fantastic place to visit and stay.

The villa was awesome. It was very clean and neat, had everything we needed for the week, including boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrella, cooler to take to the beach. Soap for washing dishes and hands. All the utensils, plates and cooking supplies were very clean. Air conditioned worked perfect. We loved having the pool just steps away from our front door. The only drawback was that there was not a really nice beach within walking distance. There were beaches within walking distance but the ones we liked we had to drive to or take the bus to. Otherwise it was a gret place to stay. Owners are also very nice, we did not meet them but they did call and check in with us.

A friend invited me to share a fortnight in 6 Ajouba Villas. The holiday surpassed my expectations, chiefly because the villa was ideal for our stay. It is simply but elegantly furnished and has everything we needed - all the equipment worked well, especially the air conditioning. The big sitting room cum dining room opened out on to the pool and we could sit on the verandah with our rum punches relaxing after a swim. The view from the upstairs balcony is lovely - across palm trees to the sunsets over the sea. It is a short walk to Fitts beach with excellent swimming in clear water. Good restaurants are nearby - again only a short walk. Holetown has a very good shopping centre. I did a lot of exciting Christmas shopping there. My friend has invited me to come again with her to the villa next winter and I shall come like a shot.

Upon arrival of the property we were greeting by the couple who manage the Villa (Pat & Gilly). They were helpful and knowledgeable throughout our stay. They helped us with the area, renting cars and catameran cruises etc. The Villa itself was really amazing. It was better than we could have hoped for. It was immaculate and had everything that you could wish for. Everything is brand new. Beds were very comfy and airconditioning throughout made our time spent in Villa very comfortable. There is a terrace off of the master bedroom that is lovely for having a nice rum and coke and some nibbles whilst watching the sun set over Fitts Village beach. The area itself is an old fishing village although not very much fishing goes on to date. Most of the houses nearby are local families and the bright yellow/peach/salmon villas stand out from the surrounding properties. There is Jordans supermarket at the bottom of the road which is a good size and has everything you will need. There is a really fabulous and large supermarket in Holetown which has a great array of products including fresh meats/wines/British/American products at a good price. The villa is ideally situated near the beach which is great for swimming and snorkling (we swam with a turtle at this beach!) Il tempio is also on this beach and is great for drinks during the day (there is a cool bag in villa that you can stock up with drinks and snacks if you prefer - very handy). It is also open for lunch and dinner. We had a nice antipasti plate one day with some wine and garlic bread - just right! There is also a bus stop at the bottom of the road which will take you just about everywhere which we found to be a fantastic way to travel. Very cheap too. It is only 35p (our equivilant) to travel everywhere! We did hire a car to go to exploring the other sides of the island however it would still be very easy to do it by bus. There are fantastic restaurants and bars on the island, the famous Cliff was as spectacular as we had imagined, Calabazza was as good if not better - staff/food amazing! 39 Steps is great, Cocomos is a fab venue where you can chill out during the day and hire some sun loungers and drink a few beers or be more adventurous and rent a jet ski or go on one of the inflatable water rides (ask for Trinni who manages this beach business - he is a great charachter!). The Crane Beach resort has a restaurant called L'azure which must be tried too. There are many more so have fun finding your favourites as we did. All in all it was an awesome holiday. We have always said we would not go to the same place twice just because the world is so big and there are too many places to choose from but we would highly recommend Barbados and especially this villa. Thanks for an amazing holiday!

A friend and I were the first-ever tenants of this delightful property in November 2007 and we plan to return in 2008. It is comfortably furnished, and well-equipped with wonderful beds, washing machine and dryer etc. The pool is a dozen steps from the front door, and each evening we sat on the balcony with rum punches, watching the sun go down over the Caribbean and listening to the chorus of singing frogs. At the back of the villa live friendly local people who were very welcoming and at Ajoupa Villa one feels part of the village community rather than a tourist isolated in a hotel. We hired a car, as we liked touring the island, but a lovely uncrowded beach, a good supermarket and two really excellent restaurants are within easy walking distance, but there is a short hill up to the villa. Our only complaint was that two weeks weren't nearly long enough! This was one of the best holidays I've ever had in Barbados, in 20 years of visiting there.
