The Apartment

The apartment is clean, modern and superbly located just 3 minutes walk from both the quiet Poniente and lively La Cala beaches. The apartment is situated in Residencial Las Calas, a low rise development which benefits from two swimming pools - one for paddling and the other for swimming - and boasts dedicated underground parking. The apartment is fully equipped for self-catering with a fridge/freezer, hob and oven. If you need it, there is a new washing machine in the utility room. The light and airy lounge has a 3 seater sofa, a wicker armchair and a proper dining table and 4 chairs. It has air conditioning and there is also a television with the Spanish equivalent of Freeview. The bedroom has a double bed and there is ample storage in the built-in wardrobes and chest of drawers. There is a hifi in the master bedroom with radio, cd and cassette player. The second, single bedroom has double fold-down bunk beds which can be stowed during the day to provide even more space. The bathroom is fully equipped with a bidet, wc, bath, shower and basin. There is a balcony outside the single bedroom from which you can glimpse Puig Campana, the mountain overlooking the whole area and outside the flat itself is a terrace, beautifully shaded by mature shrubs and palm trees, providing the perfect place to sit out with a drink and have a bit of a rest.

La Cala Finestrat
La Cala Finestrat, 3 minutes walk from the apartment is a small but lively seaside resort with a golden sandy beach and safe bathing. A great feature of La Cala is the parade of bars and restaurants, both English and Spanish, that are literally 5 yards from the beach. There are shops selling the usual seaside necessities but also a small supermarket, chemist and three times a week, a fantastic market selling a huge range of clothes, gifts and crafts. 3 minutes walk in the other direction brings you to the Poniente beach. Approximately two miles long and regularly featuring on the list of best beaches in Europe, its perfect for a family to lounge away the day. For the more energetic, there is a wonderful new promenade, along which you can stroll right into the centre of Benidorm. It takes about 45 minutes at leisurely pace but you could break this up at any one of the numerous bars you wander past along the way!

There is not much new to be said about Benidorm - spectacular beaches bars, restaurants and clubs to suit all tastes and pockets - but never underestimate just how Spanish it is. The British perception is that its just like being in the UK but with better weather and cheaper drinks and to some extent, this is true. Indeed if you do want to eat and drink just like you do at home then you are fantastically catered for with British food, drink and television on offer at countless bars. However, if you fancy sampling local culture - from just a simple tapa with a beer, right through to a huge paella for the whole family washed down with the local wine - then go into the old town and stop in at one of the myriad of tapas bars and restaurants and try something - the great thing is that even if you do not speak Spanish you can just point at what you fancy and you will be enjoying it within seconds. The shopping is pretty good too - both in town and at the new mall less than 10 minutes drive from the apartment.

For the kids, there are loads of great days out. Terra Mitica is a huge theme park which has loads of rollercoasters, log flumes, carousels etc etc in five different themed areas - just imagine Eurodisney but with great weather! Aqualandia is an amazing waterpark with huge waterslides and wave machines Mundomar is an aquarium that lets you see a dolphin show that will take your breath away and Terra Natura is a zoo with a staggering range of wildlife. All of these are a short drive or bus ride from the apartment and each could easily occupy a full day (Terra Mitica probably the whole week!). Less known is the beautiful countryside just minutes from the coast. The mountains just 10km from Benidorm are up to 5,000 feet high and offer fantastic cycling, climbing, fishing and walking opportunities. This area is also excellent for trying your luck in the nearby Casino in Villajoiosa ( the village know for its chocolate) , before catching a live show at the reknowned Benidorm Palace! La Cala is also an a fantastic destination for golfers, with courses designed by famous golfer Jack Nicklaus nearby.
