Property and local area description
Torreblanca Marina, Torrelamata
Torreblanca Marina apartment, La mata
Torrelamata is a seaside village situated between Alicante and Torrevieja in the Costa Blanca.
There are 2 commercialised towns within 30 minutes. Alicante and Torrevieja. Torrevieja , which is a 15 minute bus ride away, has everything you could ask for. There are historical sites, street markets, watersports, boat trips to nearby islands, a full cosmopolitan range of restaurants, several sandy beaches, cinemas, waterpark, ten pin bowling and casinos to mention just a few! Basically everything you would hope to find in a busy Spanish seaside town.
Torrelamata itself (La Mata) is in pure contrast to Torrevieja. It is a smaller, quieter village. Although there are a range of shops, bars and restaurants within 5 minutes walk, the whole area is peaceful. For a busier scene, it is only a 5 minute bus ride to the central La Mata square to visit the bars and restaurants favoured by the native Spanish.
From the apartment there is a huge supermarket around the corner (with fresh bread, fish, fruit and veg), a bus stop outside the gate, and it is a 2 minute walk down to the beach. The beaches have been awarded the prestigious blue flag award making them among the finest in Spain. Due to the coves there is a choice between lively and calm seas in which to swim or bathe. There are numerous water activities, including family pedal boats, there are food and drink kiosks, first aid kiosks and life guards on the beach, and bars and restaurants along the boardwalk on the beach. Sunbeds and parasols are available for hire at competitive rates.
A 10 minute walk will take you to the La Mata Lagunes. The La Mata salt lake was declared an important area for birdlife in 1989 and the whole area was declared a Natural Park in 1996. There is a Tourist Information office with some interesting exhibits of the various flora and fauna of the salt lakes, there is also a telescope on the roof where visitors can scan the lake and zoom in on any interesting sightings. The lakes are famed for its` population of flamingos.
The park has been laid out with two distinct and well signposted routes - one for walking and the other for walking or cycling. There are 3 observation points for bird watching.(there is thought to be a 2000 population). There is a very nice shaded picnic area with plenty of seating and picnic tables provided. At its highest point it is possible to see both lagoons together with panoramic views of the Mediterranean sea and on a clear day it is possible to see as far as the island of Tabarca ( there are frequent boat rides from Torrevieija to the island of Tabarca).
