Description of Grandola / Melides and Local Activities
Melides is a typical small village in Alentejos seashore. A quiet place to enjoy some days or relaxation, anytime of the year. The ideal place to go to the beach if youre one of those people who prefer almost desert beaches, having nevertheless all the the small joys of life like having a cold beer at the bars while watching sunset
The area around Melides is well worth visiting if only for the great beauty of the many peaceful beaches that can still be found along this coastline. The village and lagoon of Melides and the nearby Lagoa de Santo André provide visitors with the necessary infrastructures. The area is very popular amongst Portuguese holidaymakers, who come here every year and help to create an atmosphere of youthful gaiety that lasts all summer long.
Pottery has been produced in Melides at least since the fifteenth century and there is currently a project in progress for the revitalisation of this craft, which has already made such a valuable contribution to the local economy.
The well preserved landscape that can still be found here has made it possible to develop various open-air activities, ranging from adventure sports to simple, pleasant country walks or bike rides.
