The villa was fantastic. In a very quiet area but still easy access to beaches, shops etc.
About 1 hr from the airport, but I didnt take the A22 as per the instructions. I took the N125 all the way in.
Be careful around the airport when driving, especially when joining motorways etc, due to the short (non-existent?) slip roads.
The pool was amazing-especially the diving board! Very deep and safe. We didnt have it heated which made it cold, but so nice to cool off. Perfect.
We were surprised to have Fatima arrive early every weekday (did her usual fantastic job), but it meant we couldnt have a lie in or relax. In fact it felt uncomfortable, and really made us change our plans.
At one point in our week (wednesday?) , there was Fatima, the gardener, the poolman and Carole all there at the same time! What the heck was that about?
Thought this was supposed to be relaxing. I know they need to be there, but all at the same time?
Perhaps asking the renters when it would be convenient for Fatima to come and clean?
We always clean up after ourselves, so really only needed minimal extra. Cleaning got almost obsessive. Good for the Villa but not so good for renters who are trying to relax.
At one point Carole asked us if we could pull the cover over the pool at night because the next owners wanted the pool heated and it would be switched on!!!!!!! Really? Is that our job? Dont think so.
She duly pointed out to us that we had a day of free pool heating! Unfortunately, on that day the pool was nowhere near as refreshing as it was when unheated and we were disappointed. It took the edge off the excitement going into the pool. If i wanted it heated i would have asked for it. Bit of a logistics exercise I know when one group wants it unheated and the next heated, but.............
Nothing to do with the Villa but the mozzies caused us a problem (especially my Wife) and we were really not prepared for it. Perhaps a bit more emphasis and advice needed on mosquito repellent would be needed. Our 10 year old son got his face covered in bites by the end of the week. My Wifes bites were horrendous. Certainly was the last straw for us. Cant emphasise enough about suitable repellent.
By the 4th day, we had had enough, but soldiered on. Dont underestimate the heat, especially at night in July/august. The fans were not enough and we struggled. By early morning we had managed to get to sleep, but were then woken up by the cleaner, poolman,........................ etc. Air conditioning perhaps?
The TV and entertainment centre was a bit haphazard. Having to switch SCART connectors over every time my sons wanted a change of playstation, DVD etc got to be a pain. TV size was small considering the hi tech times we live in. Wires all over the place. Stereo wouldnt play CDs after the first day. For a Villa of this high standard, a big TV is a necessity for the families. Seemed as if corners were being cut. Like putting a deckchair in a Rolls Royce to sit on.
Overall, a fantastic villa (no, amazing is the right word). Seeing the pool for the first time was just awesome. Somebody else quoted the WOW factor. Well it certainly was wow!! Very calm and not overlooked at all.
We have been to quite a few villas over the years, and this was one of the best, but was let down by the finer details. Advice on insect repellent, minimal interruptions and unnecessary requests (oh and air con) would make this Villa just the best. Of all time. Anywhere.
A really good local map would have been invaluable. We were left a rough one that sufficed, and caused us a few adventures (which was good) but a more accurate one would have helped.
Would very happily recommend if slightly more polished. Sweating the details the americans call it.
Luckily we had no breakages, in fact I fixed a few things while I was there! Free of charge! Not checked if we got our deposit back or not yet.
After this experience ( and our 15 year old lad getting to the "its boring" stage) we have decided not to go overseas for the foreseeable future. But saying all that our 10 year old son loved it to bits.
