Lagos is a mix of market town, historic seaport and popular beach resort. Lagos is one of the most ancient towns in the Algarve: a fishing harbour enclosed by crumbling walls, set on a beautiful wide bay. Lagos holidays offer the opportunity to get a real taste of Portuguese life in a fishing port with a vibrant atmosphere, a great deal of charm and a certain touch of sophistication. Holidays in Lagos tend to focus on the old town. Lagos was the former capital and has plenty of cultural and historical interest, traditional character and graceful architecture. Much of the old city wall has been restored. Walk around the narrow cobbled streets of the pedestrianised Old Town to see the pretty whitewashed houses, colourful flower-decked squares, museums and churches.

A great choice for beach lovers. There's a wide selection of beaches ranging from tiny sandy coves backed by cliffs, to the vast expanses of the spectacular Meia Praia. The coast here is a pretty mix of tiny coves, caves, grottoes and weird rock formations. Try the lovely cove at Praia do Pinhao and the outstandingly picturesque Praia de Dona (immediately below our Iberlagos Studio). The main Lagos beach is the expansive Meia Praia to the east (Across the swinging bridge from the Patio Apartment). Meia Praia is a long, wide well-equipped stretch of sand and shingle. Lagos offers many opportunities for windsurfing, sailing, canoeing and diving at both Meia Praia and Porto de Mos. Lagos is also a great base for golfers, with excellent courses Palmares, Boavista and Espiche only a few minutes dive away. Parque da Floresta, Penina, Morgado and Alamos are all less than half an hour drive.

Lagos offers a great selection of restaurants with fantastic seafood and fish served on outdoor terraces. Nightlife includes a good selection of cocktail bars and a few excellent nightclubs. The Marina is another focal point for bars and restaurants. There's also some excellent shopping with chic boutiques and plenty of crafts, including fine lace, copperware, jewellery and a monthly market. Why not take an excursion to the Barao de Sao Joao National Park, the Monchique Mountains, Cape St Vincent, Silves Castle or the town of Loule.
