Property and local area description
Costa Blanca
Situated on the south east coast of mainland Spain, the Costa Blanca is renowned for its sandy white beaches and warm Mediterranean climate. Steeped in history and boasting beautiful mountain views, sweet fragrance orange groves and glistening waters, this picturesque Valencian province has something for everyone.
You certainly wont be short of things to explore on the Costa Blanca, whether you wish to delve into its history and culture or reveal the untold mysteries of the deep blue Mediterranean.
Torrevieja
Torrevieja has, in recent years, grown to be one of the most popular and important centres on the Mediterranean Sea for residential tourism. Torreviejas seafront offers a lot of restaurants, tapas bars and street cafes on the very wide promenade which popular for the “Spanish evening stroll”. If you simply wish to relax and soak up the rays, then head for one of Torreviejas sandy white beaches, which have been awarded the ECs "Blue Flag" status so you can ensure safe bathing and quality recreation facilities for you and your family.
Take advantage of Torreviejas magnificent Friday market, which sells everything from fruit and vegetables to housing accessories and gifts. There is an indoor market in the town centre open daily for fish, vegetables and meat. Fresh seafood and fish can be bought daily at the port of Torrevieja. In fact, why not make a day of it and "shop until you dro p" in Torreviejas many boutiques or the new Habernas shopping centre with H&M, C&A, Zara, Puma, etc. For the kids, we have McDonalds, Burger King, KFC or the ten pin bowling, amusement centre, sports centre with Olympic sized pool, etc.
Local to Torrevieja are two large natural saltwater lagoons, known as "las Salinas", the largest in Europe. The concentration of salt in these picturesque lagoons helps to draw the moisture out of the air. This, combined with the very low annual rainfall, creates the unique microclimate with low humidity. With most days being sunny, and with an average temp of 18 degrees centigrade, make this area ideal for sufferers of rheumatism, arthritis and asthma.
Cabo Roig
Cabo Roig is in the area of Orihuela Costa, is 10 minutes drive south of Torrevieja and is on the a main bus and taxi route. It has a very multi-cultural feel as many people from other countries now live in this area and actually outnumber the Spaniards! This area is a favourite for British and Irish ex-pats. Consequently, the shops, bars and restaurants in this area originate from many nationalities to provide food to suit all tastes - from the native Spanish to Italian, French, German, Chinese, Indian, Korean, Scandinavian, Argentinean, Hungarian, Mexican cuisine, etc.
The complex is behind a large commercial area called locally "The strip" with numerous bars, restaurants, supermarkets, etc, behind the main coast road, the N332.
Less than 2 km or about 20 minutes walk to the nearby EU Blue Flag beaches at Playa Flamenca and La Zenia, which have vast expanses of golden sands and there are jet-skis, a banana boat and pedalos in the summer months, as well as the usual "bars on the beach".
Close by is the Orihuela Costa Resort, where there is a magnificent pool with large sunbathing terrace and loungers, extensive lawn area, tennis courts, basket ball area and gymnasium - available for a small charge - and pool bar and restaurant.
30 minutes walk (or 5 minutes by car) to the Flamenca Beach Commercial Centre, the largest in the area, with about 60 bars and restaurants and nearby are familiar supermarkets such as Lidl, Aldi and Supercor. There is a popular market on every Saturday morning in a wide road in Playa Flamenca.
10 minutes drive, or 8 km to Torrevieja town centre, marina, harbour, Carrefour, Habernas shopping centre (H&M, C&A, Zara, etc), McDonalds, ten pin bowling, casino, etc.
Less than 10 minutes drive to the golf courses of Villamartin, Campoamor and Las Ramblas.
Nearby there is a bus stop into Torrevieja town and beyond and there are various taxi ranks around the area.
We recommend a car to get the best out of any area but if all you want to do is relax, take in the sun and have meal and a drink in the evening, either in the property or in the nearby commercial centres, it is not essential due to the numerous facilities within walking distance.
