Review by James from Budleigh Salterton
We stayed in Alvor in 2007, visiting Cotton's restaurant which enabled us to have a brief look at the Alto Golf & Country Club site. Our impression was, that we should like to visit again in 2008, and this we did.
Our expectations were fully met and the Management there should be congratulated on the beautifully tended grounds and the lovely landscaping. The weather for our first two weeks was not up to Algarvian standards, but excellent for golf
(Penina Golf Club was not much more than 10 minutes drive away) and walking activities. Whilst the outdoor swimming pool was little used, the indoor pool provided a convenient alternative; the on-site tennis courts looked good; shuffleboard (which I had not see outdoors before - it demanded skills akin to curling) was well utilised and being only a few minutes walk from shops and restaurants in Alvor, it was convenient for anyone not having a car.
The glorious beaches were a good 10 minutes of brisk walking away, but well worthwhile the effort. Alto G.C. & C. arranged for free shade on production of the guest card to the beach attendant and the card was a useful tool at Cotton's where it enabled a 10% discount from the bill and useful reductions at nearby golf courses.
Our fortnight there passed very quickly, but we moved further East for our next fortnight where the weather suddenly perked up and the whole
Algarve regained it's normal glorious, sunny character.
