We had a wonderful week in Karst Villa. Saturday started with Marjeta and Mladen making us lunch on our arrival. This was a real treat - we have been renting holiday properties for many years, and this was the first time any owners had made us a meal! It was great to meet them, and to find out what there was to do in the region.
The property itself is very atmospheric. I had wondered why Mladen had shown me the fuse box - but quickly found out that lightening, which is common in the Karst region over summer, causes the fuses to trip. This led to a wonderful evening in the tower room, looking at a tremendous storm over the area.
We had a thoroughly relaxing time in the cottage, while visits to local sites, including a day trip to Venice kept us and our two teenage daughters occupied.
Unusually for us, we would definitely consider coming back to this property - we felt there was much more we could have done in the region.
Highly recommended.

We felt very privileged to be able to stay in Marjeta and Mladens beautiful home and garden. We arrived to a lovely welcome from them and were made to feel that it was definitely our home for our holiday as they handed over the keys. The house has many lovely objects in it, but not overwhelmingy so. It has the balance just right and is not sterile like many holiday villas. The kitchen is well equiped, the beds comfortable and the bathroom now has a shower rather than bath.
The garden is a wonderful place to relax with several different areas for sitting and eating. There are mature fruit trees, a vegetable garden and herb garden as well as vine covered walkways and seating areas. Another joy is the tower which is connected to the house. It has two floors, surrounded by large glass doors/windows that look out over the hills, and can be opened or closed depending on the weather. You can be inside whilst being outside - a wonderful place for reading, socialising, eating and drinking.
The villa is located a short way from the Italian border, with very easy access to the coast (20-25 mins) and Trieste. There are pine covered hills and fantastic views all around the area as well as hill top villages like Stanjel a short drive away. Llubjana is within easy access due to the good motorway connections as well as the amazing caves of the Karst region. You can also get to the beautiful Soca river or the lakes at Bohinj or Bled within 2 hours. You need your own transport to make the best of the area and to get to the great restaurants that are nearby.
It is definitely a house for relaxing in, but there was enough to do in the area to keep our two teenage boys happy as well as the parents.
Thanks really go to Marjeta and Mladen for making this special house available to rent. We absolutely loved it!
