Other places in Vera Playa
Los jardines de Nuevo Vera
Review by Robert from Birmingham
Vera Playa is a large strip of developing urbanizations fronted by a wide sandy beach several kilometres long. The end of the beach furthest from
Garrucha is a popular naturist area, but this is confined to that area and leaves plenty of beach for those who prefer to remain clothed! Apart from the beach and a few hostelries most of the attractions lie a short distance away.
The nearby town of
Garrucha, for instance, is fairly lively with plenty of restaurants and shops, whilst a little further afield is
Mojacar. Mojacar Playa is mostly a long strip of bars, restaurants, apartments and hotels, of all types fronted by another long and pleasant beach. The attached Pueblo is a spectacular hilltop village about 1km inland, well worth a visit.
Also nearby and well worth a visit is the little fishing village of
Villaricos, whilst further up the coast is the town of San Juan de los Terreros which boasts an extremely child friendly beach with easy and safe access to the sea. Inland,
Vera, a few kilometres inland, is an attractive little Spanish town complete with bullring. Suggested other places to visit would be
Lubrin, an appealing mountain village and the small town of Cuevas de Almanzora for the cave houses.
There is a good connecting bus service between
Vera Playa and
Mojacar, but to appreciate the area car hire is recommended. Away from the coastal strip many of the roads are deserted, and the often spectacular mountain scenery makes driving in the area a pleasure.
For access, Almeria airport is about an hour's drive away whilst there is also easy access from
Murcia airport via an almost empty toll motorway (E12.35 in May 2009).
