A tastefully presented, generously equipped, welcoming house with beautiful views and well cared for grounds. The snooker room, toast on the Aga and the wide ranging supply of reading material were a particular hit.
We received helpful, friendly and efficient service from owner and housekeeper before, during and after our stay.
All in all a great setting for a three generation family holiday.

Our whole group thought that Toft Combs was an amazing rental property. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all of a high standard. The kitchen was well-equipped and easy to use, even when catering on a large scale. The grounds were fantastic for dogs. Some members of the group spent hours in the snooker room!

We had a fantastic reunio n at Toftcombs. The property is very special - elegance combined with comfort and homeliness. Everything was there that we needed, and the owners couldnt have been more helpful or responsive to our queries.
We would strongly recommend this proprty for the combination of comfort, grandeur, location and value for money.

I stayed here in November 1988, as a friend and I were traveling through England and Scotland by car. We just happened upon the Toftcombs House in the early evening. It appeared to be closed, but we knocked on the door and an elderly man with white hair opened it and welcomed us in. It was a wonderful stay. I particularly remember a sumptuous dinner of carved meats, with a local Scottish clan sitting at a large table nearby. Alas, I have not made it back, but I hope to one day.

My wife and I booked Toftcombs for our wedding based on the wonderful pictures and 360 degree tour online as we had to plan from abroad. We were both blown away by Toftcombs in-person! This property is infinitely more beautiful than any picture could ever convey. Our entire group of 16 raved about their experience at Toftcombs. Each room is unique and enjoyable, especially the snooker room! Cant wait to get the group back together for a reunio n someday at Toftcombs...

We had a fabulous "hen" weekend at the beautiful Toftcombs House. The extra touches supplied by Claire, the owner, were an added bonus. Everyone who was there couldnt have praised the whole experience more highly. We will certainly consider doing it all over again!

We hired Toftcombs to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday as a surprise gathering of our close family. The house was stunning, extremely comfortable and large enough for everyone to be under one roof but at the same time have plenty space. The weather was good to us and we spent my husbands birthday playing badminton and croquet on the lawn whilst the children amused themselves around the grounds. Claire was a joy to deal with and easily accessible by e-mail. Jan the housekeeper met us on arrival and spent time with us showing us round before heading off and leaving us to have a great time. We would highly recommend Toftcombs which is by far one of the most impressive homes we have every stayed in in the UK.

We celebrated my wifes 40th Birthday at Toftcombs, with seven other couples. It was an excellent weekend made all the better by the venue. It is a beautifully maintained property full of interesting and eclectic features, which also had the ambience of a warm comfortable family home. The house had excellent amenities, with everything you would require to host a sumptuous dinner party.
A birthday weekend we will not forget in a hurry!

We rented Toftcombs for a long weekend for our wedding - our whole family stayed in the house Scottish and American relatives all had the time of their lives - a big part of this was down to the expectional accomodation - the house is so beautiful and exceeded all our expectations with wonderful decor and everything you will need plus a definate wow factor - this was matched with a very warm welcome from the housekeeper - the owners and staff went out of their way to ensure that our stay was perfect and provided us with support and help for organising the wedding - what can I say Toftcombs made our wedding a truly unforgettable day - I would highly recommend.

We went to Toftcombs in February 2008. It was a family get together to celebrate my wife's 40th and my sister's 50th birthdays.
Toftcombs was the perfect place for such a celebration and everyone had a great time. The house itself is fantastic, the rooms are enormous and it's easy to get lost in there! The pictures on the internet don't really do it justice, you have to be in it to appreciate it. My wife and I had the Master bedroom which incorporates an en-suite and a turret dressing room and combined is probably the size of a small terraced house! The kitchen was fantastic, so was the main lounge and snooker room and just about everything else in the house.
The village of Biggar is about 15 minutes walk and has most things you'll need on a short break. There are about three or four nice pubs/restaurants and various takeaways (chippy, Indian, Chinese etc) and a few other shops. Edinburgh is about 45 minutes drive. We ordered a minibus and the cost shared between thirteen was reasonable and we had a really good day there. There are many places to walk in the area too (I didn't partake myself but a few of our party did).
All in all, a fantastic weekend and all of us will have fond memories of our stay at Toftcombs and who knows, one day we may do it again. An experience I'd certainly recommend.

Toftcombs house COMPLETELY exceeded our expectations which were already very high. This was a surprise trip for my fathers 70th birthday and I strongly recommend anyone having a family re-union to book right away. The house has everything you need for a perfect hide-away......TV/DVD room, music room upstairs, fantastic full size snooker room, beautiful lounge with cd player for relaxing and with an open fire or stove in almost every room which really makes you feel at home!!!!
The house is full of so many surprises, which will take some time to discover.
Sara, the housekeeper was fantastic, and made us feel like old friends within minutes of arriving.
The village of Biggar is within 10-15 mins walk and has several wonderful independant shops selling some fantastic gifts etc. Also every type of store is represented - take-away, restaurant, bar, grocery, butcher etc etc.
Our family's time at Toftcombs will be talked about fondly for a very long time and I strongly urge anyone looking for a family get-away to get booking!!!!!!
Owner reply:

The House was incredible - 11 Jun 2007
"The house was incredible and everyone there really loved lounging around in the various rooms and playing snooker (in which I won 3 out of 3 and I hadn't played for about 10 years so I was particularly happy). Everything was immaculately clean and there was plenty of room for everyone the Master suite that my brother had was incredible."

"And that brings me to Isaac. ( THE BUTLER ) who really did help make the weekend, his manners were impeccable and the service we got from him from the moment we arrived until we left was absolutely spot on. I have never been force fed so much bacon, eggs, blackpudding, haggis, beans and it goes on, in my life. We went to bed fairly late with Isaac still serving us drinks, and woke up to a clean house and the smell of breakfast and coffee. He was always suitably dressed, with a smile on his face and helped out with anything we needed, a thoroughly nice chap and great at his job." "The caterers were excellent and produced very good food with us barely noticing they had even arrived."
Measures Party Comments
"The house completely exceeded our expectations in terms of both size (inside and out) and the quality of the decor and furnishings. Our jaws dropped when we stepped into the kitchen and then into each room. And what views! The gallery, the floors - amazing. The pictures on the internet just don't do the inside justice. We were also very taken with how the house felt like a home. You've taken such care to keep it looking like a home, with all your amazing pictures and niknaks and beautiful cushions, nice towels and toiletries and having Sky and a DVD was great too. 'Homely' is something we have rarely found in a rental property - and we have been to loads over the years. Thank you so much for the work that has gone into it. It was quite expensive compared to other places we have rented but I can see why!" "Also it was great for the dogs!!!" "All in all a wonderful house, wonderful location, wonderful holiday."
