Travel Reviews : Alberobello

Review by Kerry Vineer from London

Alberobello is a beautiful and unique town which appears to remain unspoilt by the tourism. The locals are very friendly and helpful, the town has a bustling market day on Thursdays and this is well worth getting up early for.

Review by Mary McGowan from Vancouver

Alberobella is a very historic and interesting town, set in a relatively uncommercialized part of southern Italy. It has lots to offer in choices of restaurants and as most of the food is grown locally, you are treated to simple, home made food that is a taste sensation Alberobello is also central to other very interesting and historic villages and towns, all with their own separate charm and beauty. A car is a must for this area.

Review by Roberta B. from Terni

Do you need a beautiful and relaxing place to find again yourself? Go to Alberobello and do it. There you can.

Review by Michael Pilling from Richmond

Alberobello is quite touristy, but with justification because the hudreds of trulli which make up the centre of the town are a unique sight. The restaurants are good though quite busy.

Review by Pauline McGrath from London

Alberobello was a truly unique experience for us in Puglia. Having previously stayed in Cisternino & Ostuni in comparison Alberobello is surprisingly quiet with few tourists and visitors. The town at night is lively but not overwhelming and finding authentic local restaurants was not hard. The locals were genuinley welcomong and I woudl put Alberobello at the top of my list to visit next year. Highly recommend it as a destination if you really liek to get away from it all.

Review by Simon and Suzanne Parr from Surrey

Alberobello is a beautiful town. Forget what the guidebooks say, it is not a tourist trap. The Unesco site is astounding and walking around it during the day and night is truly magical. Shopping here is also a treat. There are many delicatessans and places you can try the wines and foods of the area. One particular place was Maria's in the Trulli area. She's exceptionally generous and I'd recommend you go there if you're hungry, as she gives a lot to eat and drink ! If you're arriving on Sunday and are worried nowhere will be open, the Alimentari in the centre of Alberobello, just near the two huge car parks, and opposite the Unesco site, is open in the morning!

If you wish to have relaxing fine dining (and it's exceptionally cheap!) the Terminale restaruant near the main carparks is very good - the staff are very polite and speak about 5 languages. The baby squid was fresh and exceptional and their regional pasta dishes are wonderful. Clothes shopping is reasonable but I'd recommend you head out to the outlet in Molfetta, just North of Bari - you won't belive the prices there ! Getting to all the other major towns and basically anywhere else in Puglia from Alberobello is easy - it's one of the best places to base yourself. We had a magical two week holiday in June and we will be going back.
