Review by jane ward from selsdon surrey

Esentepe is a charming village in an old world style where locals mix with ex pats and holidays makers. There are lots of lively restaurants offering good value dining. We would have no reservations in returning here for another holiday

Review by David & Lesley Knowles from Windsor

Esentepe is a charming old Cypriot village which seems to have changed very little over the years and that is part of its charm. It has one small petrol station with just two pumps and very much reminds me of old local petrol stations in England from many years ago. The chap who runs the petrol station was a lovely and very knowledgeable chap who spoke good english and always had a friendly welcome for us.

The are some other local food shops and a bakery/pattiserie and an internet cafe, as well as some small local restaurants which were very good value. Clearly little has changed here over the years and i hope it stays that way, but 5 minutes down the road the new Golf club is the total opposite but also fantastic. It's called Korinuem Golf club and has restaurants and a spa amongst other things. We ate in the restaurant one evening which was like silver service and very plush and upmarket. We were treated almost like royalty and at a price that did not break the bank either. I played the Golf course once and it is a very stern test of your ability. I think maybe i didn't play my best because i was so captivated by the stunning views all around me. I believe this course was recently featured in one of the top Golfing magazines and highly rated by them too from what I can gather.

If you are looking for somewhere busy and bustling with loud music and lager louts like Ayia Napa in south Cyprus then forget it, but if you want somewhere to unwind in peaceful and beautiful surrounds then you will be in heaven. From the village if you drive up into the mountains there is a viewpoint with the most stunning views of the coastline, there is also an ancient Armenian Monestary which is worth a visit, as well as the Antiphonitis church if you are into ancient buildings and history.

If you carry on along the mountain road you eventually come to another main mountain road by the 'five finger mountain' where there is a rustic looking restaurant. I can't remember the name of it now and we thought we would stop for a snack but they just kept bringing food and we ended up so totally stuffed we stayed in that night as we were so full. This area is toatlly charming and unspoilt.

The area is very nice however i would strongly recommend a car as the terrain off the main roads are very hilly.

You need a car as Esentepe is a fair distance from Girne and the towns to the west of Girne. We did a lot of driving back and forth.

Review by member Owen from Fareham, Hampshire

Esentepe is a quiet, unspoilt village. There are two little mini super markets, where nothing is too much trouble. If they do not understand what you are looking for, they phone a frined and give them the english word! The sea views are wonderful. if you take the hill road out of the village you find yourself in pine woods in minutes. there is a wonderful 13th century monestery up in the hills which closes at 6pm. The road is windy but in good condition. perhaps not for those who suffer from vertigo. the views from the mountains are incredible.
