Gubbio is a hill town setting full of many interesting features. The setting entering the town is very picturesque with its ancient collosseum facing up to the town. You must try the cable car ride to the top of the mountain. The town has many restaraunts but we tried to stay away from the "Touristico" menu as they are not really value for money. We enjoyed a restaraunt off the main piazza for a family of 5 costing 85 Euros, with a bottle of Rosso. All in all a peaceful setting and if you dont want hustle and bustle of a large town then Gubbio is for you.

Having only visited Italy once before, we found the town of Gubbio truly delightful. A pretty medieval settlement, tucked away in the northern hills of Umbria, not only is Gubbio a great base to explore the whole of the Umbrian region (with good links to major roads nearby), it has more than enough places of its own to interest and entertain, inc. a roman ampitheatre and cable car up to St Ubaldi's monastery. Gubbio has a good range of affordable eateries from trattoria's serving local meats from only 10 Euros, to bistro's serving a simple pizza, to those offering a 5 course banquet. A real find, Gubbio kept us occupied for much of our 10 day stay and is a place we can't wait to return to!

Gubbio and Umbria is a mountainous area with spectacular views and winding hillside routes. The local food and wine is excellent. People are friendly and accommodating.
