Travel Reviews : Peninsula Peljesac

Review by Chris Meakin from Llanddulas

What Can I say, the views are stunning, it is not over populated at all the understand English faily well the sea is so clear you just have to go and see it.

The Drive, well about 2 hours from Dubrovnik airport, which seems a lot but the roads are so easy to drive on well signed not much traffic, you turn right out of the airport and just follow the road until you reach the Penisular junction ( about 3/4 hour) if you are self catering there is a Lidal just as you come into Dubrovnik, there are a few petrol stations on the penisular but fuel is cheaper on the main land, once on the penisular it is quite a long drive, Ston is a great place to stop at then on to the tip the roads are a bit windy and uphill down dale, but the views are stunning (not for the driver to look though) once you get nearlt to Orebic there is a fuel station and just past it a small ish local supermarket, this is a good one to stop at, butchers are usually open early evening same with bakers shut up shop around 7.30ish, down in Orobic ferry port you can park for free after 8.00pm there is a car park as you come around the bend towards the ferry. looks like a large layby you can park here for free all day, we went 6th to 19th Feb first week temp up in the 30,s second week dropped to 22 to 25 quite cool at night in 2nd week, but local prices where dropping by around 30%, there are pleanty of villa and apartment touts looking for trade, I would think you could get a good price if you just flew in, booked a car and drove there and let the touts show you there appartments then haggle on price, they where quite a few people doing this, The fish and shell fish along this coast is wonderfull cooked perfect, all I can say really is whatch the drive across Hvar if you go there we went from the main land local ferry onto the island and drove the 77km across the center of the isle, WOW what a road in places it is so narrow with some big dropoffs I would say about a car and a half wide in places, not for the faint harted best bet! come off the ferry, and stop for a drink, let the rest of the lefties go, and plod along at your own pace. You have to visit this Peninsula before it is spoilt by the mass holiday trade.
