YOUGHAL WAS A GREAT LOCATION FOR TOURING THE AREA THE TOWN JUST ENOUGH FACILITIES TO MAKE A GREAT RELAXING DESTINATION. THE OWNER OF THE APARTMENT WAS SO HELPFUL TOO.
Review by Jennifer OToole from Dublin
Youghall is a beautiful town and although I am from Ireland I was completely unaware of how special it is, historically and aethestically. It has beautiful harbour, beach and historic sites, all within walking (strolling) distance. It is quite unspoilt. The local people are friendly and helpful.
One of the most pleasant parts of our stay was each evening the local children would gather of 'crab fish' at the harbour. Our children joined in and had wonderful time.
Will definitely visit again.

Enjoyed the food though it is not the cheapest to be found. The people of Yawl (Youghal) were just nice down home country folk who on the whole made you feel welcome. The song "Thegreen, green grass of home" will always come to mind when we think of your quaint town and our long ago Irish heritage makes this Canadian feel proud. Wish we could have found that Irish pub that I so often dreamed about finding where a guy like John McDermott would be singing and we would have been able to join him in song.

Fantastic place for any age. It really was the best holiday we've had as a family. Loads to do for the children even if the weather isn't great. On the good days we went to the beach, Fota and Leahys farm which were all easy to get to- Fota's about 30 mins away and Leahys about 20 minutes so very handy. For wet days there's the cinema, the indoor swimming pool and Perks entertainment center. That's not including all the fab restaurants in town and also the town itself which is beautiful to walk around. There's lots of little boutiques aswell for shopping. Why would you go anywhere else?

A little village are with lots of pubs, restaurants and areas to visit. Nice long beach area reached after a short walk. Pubs where you don't realise they are pubs. Historic places to visit, good range to restaurants to eat in. good fishing trips if you enjoy this sport. Easy access to other areas of interest.

Youghal is a surprising little town, full of history and charm, with its salty quays and ancient architecture, as well as convenient shops and facilities. When we booked a rental house there, we expected that we would spend a lot of time touring around the south of Ireland, but in fact we found Youghal so quaint and welcoming we were happy to spend most of our time there rather than driving around. One last comment: the local Tourism Information Office is outstanding with extremely well informed and friendly staff.

They say that Youghal (pronouced YAWL) is the Irish Riveria and it more than lived up to it's name. There are several beaches that you can spend time on picking up beautiful sea shells and star fish. The fishing is fantastic (or so I hear) and the food is amazing. Although you have several options for eating out, I highly recommend cooking in with the freshest meat, eggs, and breads from Twobley's Butcher shop. If you do want a snack out the pasteries at "The Coffee Pot" in down town Youghal are a treat to be had. If you want a little excitement in the evening there is Perks which is a huge arcade with the "Showboat Casino" inside. A lot of fun when the weather did not work out so well. Youghal offers plenty to do with shopping, eating, and siteseeing. It is steeped in history and at the same time has a very friendly and contemporary air to it. It has several smaller villages near by and the beaches are to die for, excellent for an morning or evening stroll.
Review by Sharn Duff from Beaudesert
A friendly market town; a compatiable mix of medieval history and contempory lifestyle. A little capsule of everyday Irish living. An excellent base from where to explore the south and south-east of Ireland. Boasting a long wide sandy beach, summer no doubt may be very busy and congested.

the countryside around Youghal is fantastic, mountain views, waterfalls and great scenery. The towns are a bit boring and Cork overcrowded but a smashing place none the less

Youghal
Staying on the quayside offers fabulous views of both the estuary, surrounding valley and out to sea. This area of Youghal have undergone extensive refurbishment, combining old and new to look fresh and interesting. Sadly the approach to the town was met by dirty signs which gave the town a general air of needing more TLC. The placment of a land refuse site at the entrance to the town, which is clearly visible from the Waterford approach road, is lamentable - a blot on the landscape of could be a fantastic setting.
The harbour is an honest traditional working harbour which combined with the modernisation of this area seems to conflict with the town behind.
The town could benefit from a little TLC with some vacant shops (although beautifully disguised in some places with window displays), and shopfronts that could benefit froma fresh lick of paint. It displayed an unusual mix of old and new which was charming ie old clock shop spanning the road and surounded by shops, and castle-like structures with buildings either side. It is clearly a town that is developing but acknowledging its heritage, hence the feeling of identity crisis. There were a good selection of small shops. Several good places for eating out that would suit everyone's tastes from connoisseur eating at Ahernes to fast food and take-aways. There are several pubs in different parts of the town that are well worth a visit, where the guiness is very smooth!
Youghal has a nice coastal path for walking which takes you past the harbour, the lighthouse and along the beach. There are other walks nearby and the local tourism office was helpful inprovidsing information about local points of interest. Youghal is a good location for visiting other nearby places of interest such as the Mahon Falls, Waterford crystal, Cobh, Fota. Dungarvan, with its castle, Ardmore and Shanagarry are also lovely places ot visit and walk around. Youghal is also abt 1h 30 mins from the lakes at Killarney marking the start of the Ring of Kerry(another 125 miles around) but the lake, house and monastry at Muckross are worth a visit as the nearby towns of Kildare and . Abt same time frame but in the other direction from Youghal towards Wexford are the dunbrody famine ship and heritage centres - both well worth a visit.
In essence a picturesque and delightful place BUT needs its cleanliness improved as pavement heavily soild with dog faeces. More bins would help as we spotted on 1 - 2 when out walking.
I would visit the area again

Historic town but not suitable for young children.
Review by Marilyn Gadd from Andover, Hampshire, UK
Youghal is a pleasant seaside town, it would have suited our needs as a base for hill walking if we had some decent weather. However, it rained everyday and we found ourselves going further afield to find things to do with 2 teenagers. The indoor adventure park is a good facility and we enjoyed the 10 pin bowling, however it is probably more suited to younger children. A "pirate adventure" area for teenagers would be good! Although it wasn't advertised very clearly. The information centre didn't have any leaflets on the local attractions eg the waterfall on the way to Waterford. We would come back to Youghal but without the children next time!

I can imagine that at one time Youghal was a thriving little town. It seems to have been hit hard by the recession with some of the eating establishments having closed and many of the buildings in need of the repair. We still found enough restaurants to meet our needs for one week but would have had to be looking further afield if staying any longer. This week (mid August) all the mackerel were flocking to the harbour for the shouls of white bait. It made quite a spectacle every evening at high tide. We made the mistake in the first few days of concentrating on the East Cork area for trips out, but discovered some lovely beaches/villages just to the north east in County Waterford - in particular Ardmore. We visited the Dunbrody Famine ship on the way back to the ferry and would recommend it to families with children at the top end of primary school.

Youghal is a lovely unspoilt seaside/fishing town. It has something for everyone. We found lots to do whatever the weather. The people are friendly and helpful which made our stay relaxing and enjoyable. Will definitely be back.

Well, where do I start, Youghal is a hugely charming and historical little town with an extremely sociable and friendly working community who welcome the visitor with open arms whilst going about their everyday business. There are numerous places to eat and/or meet in the evenings, to chat over a drink as well as listening to live music played by local musicians. The beaches are spotless, as are the waters of the river and sea with tremendous facilities for all kinds of watersports. The memories of my visit will stay vividly with me until I visit Youghal once more, and be assured I will be returning. Thank you all for a lovely holiday.

The beach is the best thing about Youghal (oh and Tides restaurant where the food was delicious, great for children too and the staff freindly and polite).
Review by Carmela Mascar from Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan
This was a great hub for sightseeing in the south, from Waterford to Cork (Blarney Castle).
Review by Bill Pinfold from Bedford
Youghal had more to offer than we expected - more history, more amenities, more bars, more beach. Well worth a visit and heading into the surrounding side-streets and hills.
Review by Connie Tafoya from Clovis CA
The town mall was quaint and there were many good restraints and pubs to choose from all with in walking distance from the apartment. The view and walkways along the beach were great and uncrowned. And all of the town’s people we talked to were extremely friendly and informative. It was a great base for our touring from the Kerry ring, to Dublin and Cork and other small gardens and castles in the area. The town’s people were busy keeping the shops all painted and new which added to the charm of the town.

Gateway to East Cork and Waterford. Youghal is a great base from which to visit all parts of Cork and Waterford, while also being a very accessible town in itself. Good places to eat, very friendly and helpful tourist office, nice beaches and a lovely new leisure centre. Perks also provides a good entertainment space for kids on a wet day.
Review by Sarah McCreary from Antrim
Youghal has a surprising amount of restaurants and bars which are reasonably priced. It is in an idylic location, perfect for anyone looking for a relaxing break with family or friends.
Review by Linda Harrington from Dublin
Youghal is a great town, it has everything you will need for your stay in cork. there are supermarkets and plenty of value for money restaurants. Walk down the side streets and you will be pleasantly surprised with little `hidden` shops and some super eating houses with wonderful views across the water. The only bad point i found was trying to get parking, it can get very congested, but again i suggest trying the side streets and you should get somewhere or alternatively if its a fine day park just outside the town and enjoy a nice stroll and enjoy the `full magic` of youghal....!!

I have been to Youghal on several occasions before, but these have all been lads only trips connected to our rugby club. There are plenty of pubs there to accomodate all types of tastes, from the traditional little darkened pub to the big, modern bars with TV screens everywhere for sports, with nightclub upstairs.
I would also recommend it for family holidays too, as there is plenty for kids to do, and the beach looks like it would be a good day out in the summer, although I have now been in the sea there twice. Once in March and once in December. Even with the Gulf Stream, I would recommend you wait until the summer for swimming.

Drop into the Moby Dick pub. The landlord is a mine of information on the film starring Gregory Peck "moby Dick". His father was an extra in the film and collected many photo's of the event which are displayed in the pub. Ask to see his file of newspaper cuttings. The film was shot in Youghal.

Yougal is a scenic town with nice restaurants, although some quite expensive. It has a beautiful beach for walking and should be a huge attraction for hill walkers as it has roads resembling san fransisco.
Review by Jodie Johnson from Nottingham
We stayed in Youghal 2 years ago with friends and decided to take our gran who is 83 years old and as always wanted to visit Ireland, in particular Dublin, we persuaded her that she would prefer Youghal and thought that the appartment that we stayed in last time would be perfect for us as it is all on one level with no steps to worry about. She had a wonderful time, in fact we all did, we decided to book a hire car this time so was able to travel about a lot more this time.
Youghal was undergoing a lot of road works when we visited so we struggled to get down the main street much but did manage a few times and had 2 lovely meals, one in The Red Store and our favourite was in McCarthy's (which was also partly closed due to re-furb, but that didn't spoil our night), the food was fantastic!
We had 2 good afternoons in Perks Amusement Park which was perfect for the days when we had been out all morning and wanted somewhere local to go in the evening, the bowling alley is great fun and the staff are very helpful.
Our only disappontment was that we didn't manage to find Gran a wealthy Irish husband to bring back with her!
We will definately be back for a visit soon X

Enjoyed Youghal very much. Very scenic around lighthouse drive. St. Margaret's Collegiate Church - wonderful. Food very good in restaurants - but for Canadians expensive. Pub food very good and more resonable. Good base to travel to other towns and cities.
Youghal is well marked on the highways. Market day was great fun. Haviang a new Tesco was a treat.
Would be very happy to return for another trip.
