Travel Guides: All Countries / Spain / Almeria Prov
Local culture... Although the province of Almeria is set apart from the Costa del Sol, you will still find similar attractions in and around the area, but perhaps not on the same scale. The province is considerably less touristy, which in some ways makes it more pleasant. You will still find various golf courses, particularly closer to the coast.
And there are a fair few beaches of all shapes and sizes to suit everyone’s tastes. Most of them, you will find, are quieter and more peaceful than the beaches further down south.
The spectacular landscapes of the province have certainly been made the most of. There are plenty of Natural parks, which are perfect for hiking, cycling, bird watching, etc. In fact this is a nature lovers dream. Exploring the parks is not to go a miss.
The staple diet of Almeria consists of typical Andalusian cuisine; fresh fish, seafood, olive oils and fine wines. An Andalusian speciality is the chilled soup ‘Gazpacho’ which is best sampled on a hot summers day.
